What Maxine Waters said was both inflammatory and stupid. But, she did NOT tell people to riot. It is just another in a string of misquotes by you. How unfortunate that you feel compelled to resort to this sort of dishonest discourse. Sadder still that you are unable or unwilling to acknowledge that you engage in such conduct.

Every high profile trial brings with it a variety of public opinion. It's nothing new and short of holding secret trials behind closed doors, there is nothing to prevent members of the public from forming or expressing opinions.
She told them to keep at what they were doing, even harder.  Well, they were rioting to get this cop.  So yes, she told them to riot.  If Trump, a political leader,  can be accused of inciting insurrection by expressing his opinion about the election, then Congresswoman Waters, a political leader,  can be accused of incitement to riot by expressing her opinion.  What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Or should we have double standards?

Thanks for clarifying that. I appreciate it.

I think that regarding Trump, it isn't what he said or did on a single day or moment that led to the riot at the Capitol. It's what he frequently repeated time-and-again before, during, and after the election that built up to the crescendo on January 6th. Encouraging people to believe that democracy itself was being taken away from them; the country they knew was being destroyed; and they needed to save it. The rally on January 6th was called the "Save America Rally" which has a pretty strong implication in the title alone!

In both cases courts will decide criminality and individuals will decide morality. In both the Trump and Waters comments, perhaps we can both agree that the comments were stupid and inflammatory.

We can certainly agree on that last point.

So yes, she told them to riot.

No. She didn't. That's utterly false. It doesn't become any more true thru your repetition.

Well, Trump never told anyone to invade the capital or overthrow the government.  Yet, left-wing newspapers and cable news keep repeating he incited an insurrection.  I guess it depends on who's ox is being gored.

Why does it not worry you how often your "facts" have been demonstrated to be wrong?

You mean like the "fact" posited by your side that Officer Sicknick was killed by the Capitol "insurrectionists"?

Officer Sicknick suffered strokes and died of natural causes, DC medical examiner says

For clarity, please define “your side”. If your definition of “your side” includes one or more persons participating in this thread, please provide a link to the post in which such person or persons claimed that “Officer Sicknick was killed by the Capitol “insurrectionists””.

No. It doesn't. Making false attributions of fictional quotes is never the right thing to do. Never.

Who is “we”?

And about that link to a person or persons who said that “Officer Sicknick was killed by the Capitol “insurrectionists”, when will you provide that?

The day after the storming, anonymous Capitol police officers told The New York Times that Sicknick sustained his injuries by being struck by a fire extinguisher while physically engaging with protesters. He died at 9:30 pm on January 7. The day after the storming. The medical examiner's report has not been publicly released yet.
And Alan will not read this either.

I posted the article without comment because I thought it is an item of general interest which showed up in my newsfeed this morning. Please explain how you concluded by my doing so that "it would be nice for you to use the same standards with whoever is using these tactics."

Perhaps you ought to keep up with the news better.  Here is just one of the articles about bear spray possibly being responsible for Officer Sicknick's death.

"The FBI’s latest theory is that the 42-year-old Sicknick suffered a stroke after inhaling an aerosol-based “bear spray” during the riot, according to recent reports that authorities refuse to confirm."

Why are you so anxious to change the subject from "Making false attributions of fictional quotes"? Oh, never mind.

Joe and I agreed today that both Trump's comments regarding the election being stolen and Waters' comments on the Chauvin trial were stupid and inflammatory. Which side are we on when we find common ground?

Yeah, I mean who ever heard of a stroke event being triggered by sudden extreme stress or shock. Maybe The American Academy of Neurology has heard of such a thing happening.

"Sudden reactions to startling events could trigger stroke through effects on blood circulation or an excessive response by the sympathetic nervous system, which regulates body functions such as heart rate or blood pressure."

"The study found that people who had strokes were more likely to have experienced anger or negative emotions in the two hours prior to the stroke than at the same time the day before the stroke. They were also more likely to have reacted quickly to a startling event, such as getting out of bed suddenly after hearing a grandchild fall down and cry or standing up from a chair quickly after hearing an unexpected loud noise."

I wonder how much more startling it might be to be overwhelmed and attacked by a mob storming the Capitol than "hearing a grandchild fall down and cry" or "an unexpected loud noise".

Russia, Cuba seek closer 'strategic partnership'

https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20210420-russia-cuba-seek-closer-strategic-partnership

Havana (AFP) - April 20, 2021

Russian President Vladimir Putin called communist Cuba's new leader Miguel Diaz-Canel Tuesday to discuss strengthening the two countries' "strategic partnership," the Russian foreign ministry said in a message retweeted by its embassy in Havana.

In Tuesday's call, Putin and Diaz-Canel "confirmed their mutual willingness to strengthen the strategic partnership as well as to coordinate efforts in the fight against the spread of #COVID19," said the tweet.

The Kremlin had earlier issued a statement congratulating Diaz-Canel and expressing willingness to "develop a constructive bilateral dialogue and mutually-beneficial cooperation" between the two nations.

While Russia seeks closer ties, Cuba's relations with the United States have been at a low since then-President Donald Trump reinforced sanctions following an historic but temporary easing of tensions under Barack Obama between 2014 and 2016.

The tougher measures and the effects of the coronavirus epidemic contributed to Cuba's economy declining 11 percent in 2020.

In his final address to the party last Friday, Castro affirmed a "willingness to conduct a respectful dialogue and build a new kind of relationship with the United States" but without Cuba renouncing "the principles of the revolution and socialism."

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said last Friday the United States was not planning any immediate change in its policy toward Cuba, which would continue to focus on "support for democracy and human rights."

That is so pathetic. There is nothing in those snippets, or in the complete text of those posts, in which digitaldog or I said that “Officer Sicknick was killed by the Capitol “insurrectionists”” or anything like it. Nothing.

So bear spray sprays itself now, and certainly not by insurrectionists?

I've heard of ovens that clean themselves and gardens that water themselves, and even cars that drive themselves, but never self-spraying bear spray.  Perhaps where you live it is a more popular item on the store shelves then in a city.

It's not just that this story fell apart, but that it took so long for it do so.  All available evidence within just hours after this pointed to him not being beaten to death, including his family issuing statements to this fact that night, yet the media continued to run with it so much so that the Dems used it in the impeachment trial.  It then became so embedded in the Democratic narrative, that nearly two months latter, on March 2nd, FBI Director Wray refused to give any concrete answers on the actual cause of death to congress including refusing to deny if it was from blunt force trauma.

There is not a single mainstream news source I actually trust anymore.

You have this plus the 60 minutes fiasco a couple weeks ago, the election story that Russia had a bounty for USA solders just recently fell apart, the GA election conversation that was used to tarnish Trump had completely made-up quotes, the dead solders are losers comments were bogus, all the panic porn around C-19 (which Bill Maher talks about frequently) including the constant faux praise of Cuomo for months on end ... and the list goes on and on and on.

We are watching the return of Yellow Journalism brought to us by the NYTs, WaPo, CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, the AP, PBS ... pretty much all of the legacy news media.  Even Emmy's and Pulitzers have no weight to them anymore.

Honestly, Glenn Greenwald is the only journalist I can name that I would trust.  Everyone else, after the last four years, is suspect as far as I am concerned.
