I've been fortunate enough to spend a good deal of time in Amsterdam, and honestly didn't really find there to be a huge culture shock.  Great museums, good food, strong local transportation options and easy access to the rest of Europe, socially tolerant culture, and everyone speaks decent English for those of us that don't speak Dutch. 

What's not to love?

No.  It may be a great place to visit, but not a great place to live.  Why would anyone make a commitment to another country knowing that they'll have to leave?  The whole "study" is silly.  Most people want to stay in their own country where they have a common heritage, speak the language, are culturally affiliated.

I welcome all immigrants, including Latinos,  who come to America legally who wish to become part of the American family.  That includes economic and political refugees.  I think they should learn English and become citizens. I think immigrants are more welcome here because we are an immigrant nation.  Encouraging use of other languages in the public square isolates those immigrants.  They never get connected and frankly don;t do was well as those who do.  Second generation immigrants tend to become enculturated even if their parents do not.

Even in New Jersey. 

Well, as reality and fiction have fused together, it wasn't that happy a place for the Soprano family... imagine sisters, mothers and uncles like that, not to mention nephews and assorted, interchangeable wives and predatory preachers.

But yeah, NJ aside, the two factors of wealth and hot wife go far - as long as hot wife is hot for you, and you alone. I'd pick Rome, I think.

They're not going to let you become a citizen.  You're a second class citizen in fact, not really wanted by the country. You're a visitor.  Why commit to such a relationship?  It's like being a boyfriend to a married woman.  Well, maybe it's not the same.

It's been a funny two days: I checked with Sky News last night and today, and absolutely nothing has happened in the world since yesterday when the English cricketers won a match somewhere.

Perhaps Trump really does have magic, and the world has become a safer place after all.

Men and women suspected of joining IS abroad are subjected to criminal investigation. In my country that almost always leads to imprisonment, and possibly mandatory reeducation of the children depending on their age.

We finally agree on something.  Regardless of what a citizen does, they should be allowed back into their country because it's their country.  Of course, they must face the consequences of any crime they may had done while abroad.  No person should be a "man without a country".

On the contrary: being men without country can have the direct benefit of banding them all together in one "safe" place where folks can keep a surreptitious eye on them; somewhere in the Middle East would be perfect. It's the cell culture that poses domestic dangers: they could be the smiling citizens in the shop at the end of your road, the nice family that's always open into the late hours just in case you run out of whatever. Whodda thunk, the neighbours will say when the fire brigade comes round. In Spanish, they call them the bomberos (the firemen) which is possibly a reference back to earlier centuries of occupation...

I am sure that the normal people of the same ethnicity hate the extremists every bit as much as anyone else does: they kill more of them than they do of us.
