Johnson County sheriff claimed he got 200 tips of election fraud. A records request yielded only one

https://www.kcur.org/news/2022-07-28/johnson-county-sheriff-claimed-he-got-200-tips-of-election-fraud-a-sunshine-request-yielded-only-one

KCUR | By Steve Vockrodt - July 28, 2022

...With less than a week before a primary election in which voters will decide, among other things, whether Kansans continue to have a constitutional right to an abortion, Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden, a Republican, has said several times that he’s investigating election fraud. But he’s explained little about the nature of his investigation.

He gave his most expansive remarks in Las Vegas earlier this month at a convention of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, a group that claims to have supreme authority in county government, above that of local, state and federal officials. The group has called for law enforcement to investigate the 2020 presidential election results due to election fraud, a claim that has been debunked repeatedly.

“In these meetings, people started talking about the election issues and I thought, yeah, yeah you know, OK, because I always took for granted that the elections were OK. Then the presidential election came and there was this big overturn and in Johnson County… our guys, our election staff, was done at 8:30 at night. It was done,” Hayden said at the convention.

“And President Trump did not carry our county — first time since 1914 that Johnson County didn’t vote Republican. Yeah, so it’s kinda interesting.”

Hayden, who is serving his second term as sheriff, referred to his own election victory in 2020.

“In fact, you’re looking at a guy — I got 260,000 votes and I got more than both presidential candidates and I’m way downballot,” Hayden said. “And that bothers me.”

Hayden didn’t tell the crowd that he ran unopposed in 2020, unlike the presidential candidates...

[More at Link Above... There are stories like this all over the country]

If people like Trump, Abbott from Texas and Alan K really want to stop illegal immigration, they should promote news stories like this more. Once the word gets out, people will stay away voluntarily, but there won't be anyone left to pick crops or deliver Amazon packages. :)

Exhibit A of the kind of gutless coward that turns a blind eye to the violent invasion of his nation's capitol and the lies from the Liar-in-Chief that caused it. So afraid of admitting what actually occurred that he will make any excuse, no matter how obscene or absurd, and turn his back on his country — displaying a yellow streak a mile wide.

Good point. In 2016 when Trump lost the vote by millions yet became president thanks to the electoral college, we did not see a mob of liberals swarm the capital trying to overturn the election by violent means, did we? And the Jan 6 mob was far from being all loonies, there were large numbers of "ordinary citizens" breaking in, assaulting cops, and so on.

The same three things that have plagued humanity throughout history.

Political power, financial greed and organized religion.

I prefer reading Stephen King for fiction.
To answer your question; not too much dope, too many dopes like the fellow who will now, unfortunately defend Cruz in an upcoming post here. 🤫

No. There are already millions of ideological robots who've traded their capacity for independent critical reasoning for a set of talking points. There's no need for his unthinking uncritical redundant regurgitation of them. He's just one more ideologically obedient parrot.

So it turns out that Alex Jones lied and that the Sandy Hook massacre actually did happen.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/03/media/alex-jones-sandy-hook-trial/index.html

It's a bit odd that this should be presented as "news", isn't it? Was there some remaining doubt?

After having their kids murdered, some of the parents were hounded for years by Jones's followers. He and his minions repeatedly made public the addresses and contact details of some of those parents who had to move several times to avoid being targeted and harassed. Do you think it's a coincidence that it was the parents who launched law suits who were targeted?

There are people today who still put this forward as a free speech issue, as if Jones had a right to do that to people. I recently heard an interview with some silicone valley venture capitalist who professed that view, which is just another example of the modern day tendency to listen to the opinions of people who have a lot of money instead of listening to people who actually know something. This situation would probably not have happened in the era before social media. When whack-jobs like Jones wanted to say dumb shit back then, they had to get past the gauntlet of newsroom staff to get their message out. The filter was not necessarily 100% effective but it did work most of the time. Nowadays, any idiot can say any nonsense on social media and we're supposed to accept that's ok because of "free speech". What a load of sophomoric nonsense. If a culture can't protect itself from its own predators, what good is it to anyone.

I'm thinking maybe not enough dope. ;)

As for Alex Jones I couldn't help but smile for that clip of the news coming to light about his entire phone image being accidentally handed over to the opposition by his lawyers, proving he committed perjury. It makes me think it must be hard to get good representation when you are someone like him. No reasonable attorney is likely to want that case. Kind of like Trump's legal team.

Fuel prices have now fallen for more than 50 days straight and are on track to sink by about 20 percent from June’s $5.02-per-gallon peak to a national average of $4; some states

Gotta all be due to Trump, right Alan?  ;)

Some time ago, a year maybe two, ex-PM Harper of Canada expressed support for that régime. None of this should surprise anyone.

One small bit in the article caught my eye. Orban is in favour of racial purity. All of modern genetics has somehow slipped right past this nitwit. Someone should get his swab and submit it to a DNA testing site, might be fun. I bet that at some point the clan was against Hungarian immigration to the US. That's what I love about this sort of horse shit, no matter how stupidly low it sinks, there's always some 12th century brain that gets sucked in by it. Same old, same old. That's at the heart of it though, modern thought and knowledge does NOT come naturally, it has to be taught to each generation from scratch. It's just simply easier to be stupid.

We're always a generation or two away from sitting in tree branches flinging feces at each other.

Make America Hungary Again!

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/07/04/does-hungary-offer-a-glimpse-of-our-authoritarian-future

Does Hungary Offer a Glimpse of Our Authoritarian Future?

American conservatives recently hosted their flagship conference in Hungary, a country that experts call an autocracy. Its leader, Viktor Orbán, provides a potential model of what a Trump after Trump might look like.

[Concluding Paragraph] ...Trump may run in 2024, and he may win, fairly or unfairly. What worried me most, sitting in the belly of the Whale, was not the person of Donald Trump but a Republican Party that resembled Orbán’s party, Fidesz, more by the month—increasingly comfortable with naked power grabs, with treating all political opposition as fundamentally illegitimate, with assuming that any checks on its dominance were mere inconveniences to be bypassed by any quasi-legalistic means. “There are many things that the Americans here want to learn from the Hungarians,” Balázs Orbán had told me. “We’re going to keep our heritage for ourselves, our Christian heritage, our ethnic heritage . . . that’s what I think they want to say but they can’t say, and so they point to someone who can say it. If they want us to play that role, we are fine with that.” After I got back to the U.S., I spoke to Dreher, who mentioned that he was thinking about moving from Louisiana to Budapest, where he had been offered a job with the Danube Institute. “I really like the Hungarian people, and I think it could be useful to build a network of Christians and intellectuals who are thinking about the future,” he said. “We in the West still have so much to learn.”

Marjorie Taylor Green has "come out" full bore as a "Christian Nationalist", the latest meaningless buzzword that Trumpistan has adopted to piss off everybody else. She says she's proud to be one because most of America is. (What?)

It seems like overreach for evangelical fundamentalists to claim to represent all Christians, let alone the entire country. But so far as I can tell, she's nuts, and I kind of feel bad picking on her. It's the people that vote for her who are the real problem.

It makes complete sense to me that this crowd does NOT value democracy. If you're convinced that the creator has picked you special, then the actions of others, like elections, are of no importance. As an expression of tolerance and inclusiveness we (the royal we) tend to react politely to people who express their religious faith. But to make the assumption that the USA is a Christian nation in the heretical sense that they choose to understand the idea is a bit of an affront to sane people. Maybe we shouldn't be so polite. Do people want the Taliban running the place?

You might be looking at a situation where in the future a woman who travels to another state to have an abortion may possibly one day be prosecuted by her home state. In the land of the free?

In a recent podcast Sam Harris posited the idea that what might happen is that people and corporations may choose to stay away from anti-abortion red states, who may eventually suffer economic penalties. It's an interesting economic experiment, I guess, but isn't it just a little repulsive even being in this situation.

I saw a great photo of Margaret Atwood drinking out of a mug lettered with "I told you so," very funny.

An interesting history of this Replacement theory:
https://www.santafenewmexican.com/opinion/commentary/the-replacement-theory-and-its-ugly-american-history/article_4bf515cc-142a-11ed-98bb-77fe9b6291f6.html
In part:

Quote
Replacement theory takes many forms, but at its core, it claims liberals and Democrats are encouraging illegal immigration in the expectation that people of color, putatively reliable Democratic voters, will soon replace white, native-born voters.

Replacement theory is nativism, pure and simple — well, maybe not so pure, especially when antisemitism gets thrown into the witch’s brew. And we should probably stipulate here that the people who should be exercised about replacement theory are Native Americans. If anyone has been injured by “replacement,” it is the Algonquin and Cherokee and Iroquois and Ojibwe and Pueblos and countless others — Indigenous peoples who were “replaced” by generations of while immigrants, who brought disease and violence and chased Native Americans from their ancestral lands.Earlier waves of immigrants, especially Roman Catholics, were suspected of being pawns in a vast conspiracy to replace Protestants.

Just in (as if hurting Vets isn't enough for this party):
Republican senators on Sunday voted down a cap on the price of insulin in the private market, removing it from Democrats' sweeping climate and economic package.Democrats had tried to preserve the provision to cap insulin costs at $35 for private insurers, but that vote failed 57-43, with seven Republicans voting with them to keep the insulin cost cap in the bill, three short of what was needed.

Road rage incident ends in gunplay in Houston, https://abcnews.go.com/US/arrested-alleged-road-rage-shooting-involving-young-child/story?id=87485101. They shot at the Camry as it was leaving, injuring the driver. I guess you need a gun to protect your family from bad drivers. Did they think they were in a Die Hard movie sequel?
