Marjorie Taylor Green has "come out" full bore as a "Christian Nationalist", the latest meaningless buzzword that Trumpistan has adopted to piss off everybody else. She says she's proud to be one because most of America is. (What?)
It seems like overreach for evangelical fundamentalists to claim to represent all Christians, let alone the entire country. But so far as I can tell, she's nuts, and I kind of feel bad picking on her. It's the people that vote for her who are the real problem.
It makes complete sense to me that this crowd does NOT value democracy. If you're convinced that the creator has picked you special, then the actions of others, like elections, are of no importance. As an expression of tolerance and inclusiveness we (the royal we) tend to react politely to people who express their religious faith. But to make the assumption that the USA is a Christian nation in the heretical sense that they choose to understand the idea is a bit of an affront to sane people. Maybe we shouldn't be so polite. Do people want the Taliban running the place?
You might be looking at a situation where in the future a woman who travels to another state to have an abortion may possibly one day be prosecuted by her home state. In the land of the free?
In a recent podcast Sam Harris posited the idea that what might happen is that people and corporations may choose to stay away from anti-abortion red states, who may eventually suffer economic penalties. It's an interesting economic experiment, I guess, but isn't it just a little repulsive even being in this situation.
I saw a great photo of Margaret Atwood drinking out of a mug lettered with "I told you so," very funny.
