The federal government has too much power as it is.

Who the eff cares, Alan?.  Your constitution spells out the rules in crystal clear language.  Your "opinion" (although it's not stated as an opinion) is valueless.

As is the "opinion" of the Republicans, referenced at the bottom of my post, where they denounce the Democrats’ proposed new voting rights legislation as an illegitimate “federal takeover” of federal elections.

Are you certain they were students at Wharton and not Trump University?

Yes, Wharton Business School at Penn University, last week. This hot story has been reported by a dozen of publications, from USA Today to Washington Post.
Another professor responded with a shocking account of her own: “One of my students asked me if $250k was an okay salary for a 25 year old,”

https://www.dailywire.com/news/professor-discovers-business-school-students-have-no-idea-how-much-american-workers-make-with-claims-as-high-as-800k

Actually, some software engineers in Silicon Valley make $250K per year. When they buy company shares and the company matches their purchase, they make a few more bucks in capital gains, plus a performance bonus, so $500K is not that far fetched.

First off, election rules have always been determined in each of the 50 states.  The new rules will federalize this an take away state rights.
For example, some states allow ex-convicts to vote, others don't. The new bill will force all states to allow former felons to vote.  That's not acceptable to many states.

The new bill does not require ID's. That will open to all kinds of fraud.  It will also allow automatic switchover of DMV to voting rolls.  Well, not everyone who has a license is a citizen.  The democrats want all non-citizens to vote, not just in local elections.  The bill will allow electioneering in sight of the voting booths which is outlawed even in my liberal democratic states of NJ and NY.  Yet the new law will allow it.  It will allow representatives to work with voters to help them complete the forms.  That will allow Democrats to visit old people in nursing homes and check off the Democrats boxes.  Currently, it's against state laws in most states because fraud is going on if that happens.

This has nothing to do with allowing blacks to vote.  Which blacks don't vote who want to? That excuse is a fig leaf for Democrats trying to gain the vote forever by finagling.  Today it's easier than ever to vote especially by mail.  Of course, the Democrats want to allow mail in votes to count passed election day.  That would give them the chance to suddenly mail in a couple of thousand extra votes when they only lost by that much.  They would go around collecting and getting votes from those who didn't vote when they should have on or before election day.  It's a game.  Democrats want to legalize cheating.

Seriously Alan?

1) "States rights" is not a good argument to mention. It has a dismal history dating from the Reagan era when it was a code word for preventing federal civil rights and voting rights guarantees from being put into effect so that southern states could continue their long-standing racist policies. And anyway, why should individual states control how federal elections are done?

2) Why shouldn't ex-felons vote? If they have completed their sentence and probation aren't they deserving of full participation in society? And why do you assume that most ex-felons would vote one way or the other?

3) Why do you assume that any "finagling" would automatically be by the Dems? The only serious case of fraud I know about was here in NC when a congressional election was negated because of absentee ballot cheating by the Republican candidate.

4) Mail-in ballots should be counted past election day as long as they were sent in time. Why not? No one has ever suggested that ballots that were mailed late should be counted. So your cheating scenario is nonsense.

The conservative Heritage Foundation maintains an election-fraud database that says, dating back several decades, there have been 1,340 proved instances of voter fraud nationally, including 1,152 criminal convictions.
The database includes state-by-state listings. In Florida, there are two entries for 2021(including the overturning of a 2020 town council election in Eatonville, Fla.), none for
2020 or 2019, six each for 2018 and 2017, and none for 2016. In Georgia, the database shows no entries for 2021, 2020 or 2019. For 2018, there is one entry, and for 2017 there are three entries.

Someone I know just graduated from Wharton and started with 150K,  It's a prestigious business school where she interned at a major software firm in college.  So yes, you can get high starting salaries.  By the way, Trump went to Wharton as did some of his children.

Washington asked the families of the US diplomats in Kiev to return to USA. Not a good outlook.

Peter, We are a Federal republic made up of 50 individual states.  Each state runs itself the way it wants.  Each has its own legislature, own governor, own constitution, own judiciary, own laws, own police, own taxes, etc.  Every state sets up its criminal laws and penalties the way it decides. Some states have capital punishments, some don't.   Each state wants to decide for itself whether to have felons vote or not, make election laws, decide on election districts, decide on how election officials are elected, how long their terms are, etc.  To argue there shouldn't be states' rights goes against the whole constitution and what our founders wanted - to limit power in the central government to assure more freedom for the people.

The election laws have been set up for 230 years in the respective states.  The Democrats argued that the election in 2020 was the fairest election there was.  So why do they want the government to take over other than to assure they can finagle in the future?  The election laws have kept fraud down.  But if the Democrats do away with most of them, as they intend, then fraud will get out of hand.

To an outsider this seems like a banana republic moment, https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/gingrich-jan-6-committee-jail-1289408/. Newt seems to be threatening jail time for partisan reasons for people who are doing their job investigating criminal activity. I don't know what this is, but it's not rule of law.

Parts of the US seem to be unravelling and it is very difficult to understand why it is even happening in the first place. It's as if millions of people joined a cult. It's incredible to me that an utterly preposterous figure like Trump should have been a catalyst for this.

The Democrats unraveled six years ago when they caught TDS and have been trying to jail Trump and his children since then for treason, colluding with the Russians, two impeachments, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, emoluments violations, tax violations, sedition, a coup, etc etc.  They never accepted and could never accept his presidency.

It seems strange that you only notice this now when it's being threatened from the Republican side in revenge.  Now that it may play out against Biden and his son for their business shenanigans in the Ukraine and China, suddenly you're upset.  I've been telling you for years that what goes around comes around.

Thanks, Alan, for meeting our expectations with attempted obfuscation, deflection, distortion and, as always, obstinate refusal to answer the question.

So, I'll ask it again.  Are you okay with Republicans threatening JAIL TIME for the bipartisan committee investigating the events of January 6?

And it's essential to remember that many cases are not "fraud" but just errors. If a woman mistakenly thinks she can cast a vote for her just-deceased mother, that is not fraud. If a green card holder mistakenly thinks he can vote, that is not fraud. But if a GOP congressional candidate hires an operative to "finagle" absentee ballots, that is fraud. Or a Dem candidate, but I have not heard about that.

I think you should be referring to Biden.  He plagiarized a law review article while in law school and graduated 76th in a class of 85. As an undergraduate in the U of Delaware, he "In his first three semesters, his grades were C's or D's, with three exceptions: two A's in physical education courses, a B in a course on ''Great English Writers'' and an F in R.O.T.C. The grades improved somewhat later but were never exceptional."

(in law school:) The faculty ruled that Mr. Biden would get an F in the course but would have the grade stricken when he retook it the next year. Mr. Biden eventually received a grade of 80 in the course, which, he joked today, prevented him from falling even further in his class rank. Mr. Biden, who graduated from the law school in 1968, was 76th in a class of 85.

Politicians shouldn't be threatening jail time to their opposition, including those out of office like Gingrich.  Unfortunately, Democrats have been threatening jail time against Trump and his kids and associates for six years.  Why aren't you upset about those threats?
