The trouble is, there are some 70 million others, just waiting in the wings.

Ignorant, gullible, malignant, bent on "taking our country back".
Yes but let's start one at a time; here on LuLa.
Again, the guys main hobby is posting rubbish on a site that at one time was dedicated to photography. He can't accomplish that very well, he can't accept data, facts or science. Such morons exist to post and get a reaction from the posts. It stops when he is fully ignored or puts the rest of you, as he did me, on the ignore list. Without that oxygen, all that's left is an old, stale fart.
He wants to be egged on. He wants to divert the topic. He wants to lie to himself and others.

To be fair, there are photography discussions going on elsewhere on the site.

But you are correct in how to handle the situation. I reproach myself in this as well.

Indeed, but look at the amount of noise in this sole domicile of politics at LuLa, which isn't at all necessary compared to those that cover photography.
Look at the amount of posts from a guy like Alan, who's shown us his 'photography' and how much he posts in this sole domicile of politics at LuLa (isn't that sad).
I still think the current owners allow this do show their few advertisers lots of hits. I can't think of any other logical reason for the Bear Pit: now the sole domicile of politics at LuLa. It isn't as if there are not other places to debate politics on the web.

Maybe. It would make an interesting experiment seeing (hearing) how one hand clapping for Alan would end up here if his stupidity were fully ingored. Who knows, he might actually improve as a photographer. And give more credence to this web site which ain't what it used to me.  :-X

In other words, Trump is not a presidential material. I wouldn't invite him to my birthday party, much less endorse him as a president.
Biden would be better at a birthday party.  He's not doing too well in the Oval Office.  :)

I agree. Pete Buttiegieg or Andrew Yang would do OK in both roles. Or Mike Bloomberg.

I met Mike Bloomberg a couple of times including being invited to his second inauguration as mayor of NYC.  He did terribly in the nomination process for president.  His lack of grace and "I'm better than the whole world" attitude came through. I agree we would have been better off with him than Biden. Great executive experience.   He was mayor for 12 years of NYC and runs a huge company.  He can afford to bail out America's debt.  ;)   Pete Buttigieg and Andy Yang are too young and inexperienced to lead America.  Buttigieg ran a little town terribly.  He's a great talker and debater though.  Andy Yang is too liberal for my taste.  Nice guy but that's about it.

The trouble is, it's difficult to ignore this crap, wherever it's posted.  Ignoring this crap is what got us into this shitty situation in the first place.  By "us", I do mean all of us, not just Americans.  Brexit is perfect example of this.

IMHO, the fact that all the other right wing zealots have bailed from this forum is proof that confronting lies and disinformation with facts does actually work.

Except with Alan.  He just can't admit to being wrong about anything, despite the mountain of evidence proving it. I think it's a lost cause.

So what do we do? Simply commit to ignoring stupidity, ignorance, prejudice and other assholity presented here?  I'm not sure where that would lead us.

Outdoors to take pictures?  I dunno. It's -10C out there.

It only stops when he is ignored

You're right. That is one way to get those who engage in needy attention seeking behavior to look elsewhere for fulfillment of their need.

But... not today. I'm not going to stand by on this day while the driver of a stinking garbage truck—full of misdirection, excuses, diversions, and minimizing deceptions—circles the neighborhood on their usual route. Not Today.

Yes, it is difficult but if anyone wants it to stop, the solution is to ignore this fool. After 268 pages, it isn't going to stop without an intervetion. This fool can't masturbate alone in this forum, he needs others around and that's why he keeps posting. Now if anyone enjoys this back and forth, by all means, keep answering his silly questions of distraction, keep pointing out facts for him to ignore and continue to provide false narratives. It is what he feeds on. Best summed up this way:
Fools waste your energy, so when you see a fool, it's wise to change your path as if you've seen a wild bear in the forest!” ― Mehmet Murat ildan

This fool is wasting people's time and energy. Which again is OK if that's what you desire from this fool. If he stops posting here, he'll still be a damn fool. Nothing will change that. But he'll be very upset without an audience to watch him regurgitate his rubbish, he will mostly disappear, only to post an occasional photographic generalization or falsehood. This is the site to dismiss that nonsense: "all original prints are 300DPI, the web is sRGB, I'm using LR and Elements to calibrate my photo's", that kind of photographic and imaging rubbish.

And indeed, tomorrow is a more appropriate day.

This sums up his problems to a "T":

Today, I'm willing to make use of my time and energy to expose the steaming piles scattered here for what they are. Tomorrow, I may take a different approach of ignoring the banal absurdities or perhaps supplying repetitious assertions with a simple copy-and-paste repetitious reply. But, that's tomorrow.

What millions witnessed on January 6th was an insurrection. A siege against the nation's Capitol and subsequent invasion by domestic terrorists to prevent the elected representatives and vice president from performing their duties and obligations in a constitutionally mandated process culminating in the peaceful transfer of the most powerful office in government.

For a period of time, they were successful in achieving their objective. Success or failure, however, do not determine how actions are defined; it's thru their method of action.

On that day, a violent mob took temporary control of the seat of government while government officials halted their duties and sought refuge. They understandably fled and sought refuge as the mob roamed the Senate rifling thru desks; broke thru doors and occupied offices, including the Speaker of the House's office; erected a gallows on the grounds with shouts to hang the Vice President; broke thru the final barrier to the House chamber entrance; and continued their ongoing assault on the officers protecting them from pursuit and potential harm.

Legal issues, I may address later. First, I'd like to address the ordinary definition of the insurrection witnessed by millions of ordinary people that day. [Insurrection: an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government.] Revolting against the civil authority of an established government is what occurred that day by the methods highlighted above. It was witnessed live and recorded from numerous perspectives.

The ongoing attempts to distract from or minimize what occurred will always ring hollow and remain dangerous to democracy.

As for the Justice Department's choice of which criminal statute violations to charge, it is worth noting that in a memo posted on October 6, 2021 by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia — "At least 260 defendants have been charged with corruptly obstructing, influencing, or impeding an official proceeding, or attempting to do so." It is a criminal felony which carries a maximum sentence twice as long as that for "rebellion or insurrection".

The statute cited in the charging documents which have been filed is 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c)(2): "Whoever corruptly obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both."

The statute for "rebellion or insurrection" is 18 U.S. Code § 2383: "Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

The Justice Department memo gives an overview of the charges which had been filed up to that time. Since that time, charges have been filed against additional individuals. Pleas and convictions for the least serious offenders are being prioritized first in order to provide the time required to prepare for the most serious felony cases.

I couldn't find in your DOJ link where anyone was charged with insurrection which Democrats keep calling it.  Maybe I missed it.

It was an insurrection regardless of your blindness to what millions saw that day. What prosecutors decide to charge any individuals with isn't the entire picture of what occurred. It wasn't what one individual did that terrorized Congress. It's what the mob did that accomplished that goal.

If you want to continue to minimize what happened, have at it. You decide how blind you choose to be.

I had occasion to view this short video again for yucks. It probably belongs in the humour thread but it's also on point here as well, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vamXzkQJLiQ. Ex-Senator Franken examines other examples of "normal tourist visits", like the Jan 6th one. The video is very short, about 4 min long.

I'm sorry,  but if the government can't charge one person at of 500 people with insurrection, then it is not an insurrection. It may be a riot, trespassing, assault, Etc. Those often happen when people demonstrating turn into a mob.   Just like the BLM demonstrations and riots.

The Democrats are making it more that it was. All for political reasons to maintain power.
