Oh please.  The fact that some Americans carry weapons is nothing unusual.  The fact is no one was brandishing arms and shooting into the air or shot at police as they ran over them to enter the building.  Sure there were scuffles and fistfights and the like.  But that's not an armed rebellion.  You're being hyperbolic to make it look worse than it was.  Read the article I linked to for what most of the charges and penalties were for.

What you're saying is that it was not a very effective rebellion, in that it had very little chance of achieving that goal. That may be true, but it wasn't just another demonstration that got out of hand. You're being dismissive when you say that. Would that be your reaction if BLM protesters had done that at the Capitol? Would Trump have stood by and done nothing in that case?

Too bad Kyle Rittenhouse wasn't around to help stop the attack. Heroes are never around when you need them. ;)

Trump's aiding and abetting it and not taking any action against it was repulsive, but that's par for the course and fully in character. No one should expect better from him, and it doesn't say much for his followers that they have no problem with that. Now that some info has emerged about what how the Trump clan behaved, I wonder if there will be lawsuits on the part of people who suffered harm.

... Should the president have also policed the BLM riots with Federal troops?  (He did offer, but was rightfully told to mind his business).

You're doing that false equivalence thing again.

Here's a short article about Don Trump Jr. from The Atlantic, https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/12/gospel-donald-trump-jr/621122/. So much venom and spite and it's not clear to me why.

This guy at politico.com poses a good question, https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/01/06/new-civil-war-about-what-exactly-526603.
The first article is by an anti Trump family writer and magazine.  I'll ignore it.

The second article is clickbait.  America has always had political and civil divisions.  Didn't we fight a Civil War?  The fact is I remember the 1960s and 1970s when real conflict occurred.  That was during the Vietnam War when students were shot by the National Guard on campus.  The Weatherman and Black Liberation Army and other violent groups exploded bombs to destroy property and kill police.  Cops were assassinated.  The left and right were practically at arms with each other.  The Chicago mayor had his police forces attack demonstrators at the Democratic National Convention there.  A president and major civil rights leader were assassinated causing riots and burnings across the country in the case of the second.

Yet, we got through it.  Most of the stuff today is rather mild compared to those times.  Like I said, clickbait.

No, I'm restraining myself.
Good.  Go out and shoot some pictures like I did the other day.  It made me feel relaxed and less worried about Covid and other issues.  Be happy.  :)

No surprise. You're well practiced, as you've demonstrated several times just today.

You should read it anyway. It won't hurt much, you can take it.

That was his point. This isn't a time of great national tumult, Civil War, Vietnam, etc. The current so-called "culture war" doesn't have much depth of thought behind it. What is it really about, do you know?

If Trump sent troops into a BLM demonstration, he would have been called a racist and anti-black.  Had he sent armed troops to the Capitol, he would have been accused of aiding and abetting an insurrection, or even worse.  Whenever Trump did anything, the left turned it around to make it seem like it was the worse thing he had ever done.  When he shut down travel from China due to Covid, the left, Biden and the Democrats called him a racist and xenophobe.  Why would the Capital demonstration be any different?

Because you guys cry "wolf" all the time, your arguments seem hyperbolic and many people just ignore what you're saying as "just politics".  You attacked Trump for six years and it continues because it's worked for the Democratic party until now.  I don't think it's going to work to defend Biden's incompetency.  His actions and results will stand on their own.  You can't use Trump as an excuse.  But go right ahead if you want.  It's going to make the midterms even brighter for Republicans if you do.

Yeah. So what if democracy, one of the few things that you hold sacred, was under assault, by the president and an inflamed mob that he incited with lies, one-year ago today. Yeah, they've never stopped trying to undermine it before and since January 6th. Who cares if people are making excuses, trying to create diversions, and minimizing what happened—or still pushing the lies?

Let's not think about any of that. Let's change the channel to Happy Days and see what Richie and the Fonz are up to.

Do you actually expect that diversion to work? If so, on whom?

Pardon me for a moment while I go and vomit.

Maybe boredom. Ego. Maybe things are too good despite Covid.  People aren't working as hard.  When you have to earn a living you don't have time for nonsense, marching, etc.  Too much time on people's hands. Maybe social media is causing it. Look how we argue.  It's just silly.  Why do film and digital users argue which is best?  Every side is trying to control the world to their liking.  What do you think the reasons are?

They believe in Trump's 'Big Lie.' Here's why it's been so hard to dispel

Excerpt:

One year after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, when mobs stormed in trying to stop Congress from certifying the election of President Biden, "The Big Lie" that drove it all remains as widespread as it's ever been.

Countless recounts, courts, commissions and private contractors — including Republicans — have all dismissed former President Donald Trump's claims that the election was stolen. But a new NPR/Ipsos poll shows two-thirds of GOP voters, and just over one-third of all voters, still believe it.

It's prompting both consternation and more creative efforts to reach those who remain adamant — despite all evidence to the contrary — that rampant fraud robbed Trump of the presidency.

"Of course!" exclaims one such believer from Wisconsin named Jerry. "There's just there's no way [Biden] got 81 million votes. It's not possible."

Jerry is a Republican and a fervent Trump supporter. He asked that his last name not be used because he says he doesn't want to be targeted by what he calls "wacky" liberals.

His views, Jerry says, are based on reason. He assails mainstream media as "skewed," opting instead for what he describes as "local conservative radio." But he dismisses any suggestion that that might be slanted. "There's not usually a spin to it," he says. "It's what's right and what's wrong."

When he is confronted with evidence affirming the legitimacy of the election, he pushes back with broad-brush pronouncements such as "they found emails," and vague, baseless references to ballot harvesting, big money and the "deep state." He says nothing will ever convince him the election wasn't stolen.

"It just won't happen," he says. "We all know the whole game is rigged."

I don't think the Trump loss was rigged.  But I think that Sanders thinks his nomination loss in 2016 was rigged by Hillary and the DNC.  ;)

It's not a diversion.  Politicians on all sides have complained about rigging and game playing.

You have gerrymandering.  Both Democrats and Republicans gerrymander and both complain when the other side is doing it.  How about the 60 vote filibuster? Both sides use it to their advantage when they're in charge.  Hillary said the FBI rigged the vote against her.  She hates ex-FBI Chief Comey bringing up the cellphone issues.  Trump says the vote was rigged against him.  Blames Hillary for the phony and rigged dossier. Sanders said the DNC did him a dirty.  The truth is, all these things do happen and are true, at least to a certain extent.  That's why people don't trust the media, politicians, and others.  The deck is stacked.   Actually, it makes politics interesting.  Could you imagine politics if politicians were honest?

Speaking of diversion, well, of course, Biden is going to complain about Trump.  He wants to distract the public from his failings.  Afghanistan, the border, inflation, Covid cases, test kits, BBB bill, etc.
