Well a lot of countries really. There are only 34 countries out of over 200 with more than 10 deaths a day now and only 9 with more than a 100 deaths per day, and only 2 with more than a 1000 deaths per day. The USA and Brazil now account for half the global deaths a day.

In a crisis people look to someone for guidance with a consistent message.

And the Trumpateer boasted about what a great job he did...what a joke.

Are you still spewing. You seem like a great fit for the Make America Great again campaign...lots of dribble to be spewed and you are so damn good at it. Trumps on a good start making America great again with 100,000 deaths and counting and 40,000,000 unemployed and counting. Job well done.

At least I’m not a dishonest propagandist like you.  Your hatred must really weigh you down.  But by all means please keep it up, watching you spontaneously  combust is highly entertaining.

Well maybe the “cold ones” are why you get so many things completely wrong.  Maybe you might want to consider AA or even EA? But yea, your simple mind is really screwed up for sure, but I’m surprised you find it so entertaining screwing with your own mind.  Different strokes I guess.

We sold out of proper masks long ago, and, just like with niqabs, were told wearing a piece of cloth over our face would help.

I highly doubt this information.  A medical mask, sure, a random piece of cloth I see people wearing, no.

But anyway, as summer gets closer, it is going to be interesting seeing all those tan lines from the crazies who insist on wearing them 24/7.

If the USA can not produce proper masks, that is sad. Portugal are actually now exporting properly certified masks.

There are a lot of masks on Amazon here in the US that are for sale that obviously are not approved by anyone.  Even the big retailers and stores are making their own.  Don;t you have that issue in Portugal?

As I wrote, in Portugal, there is no lack of masks, certified by health authorities (Instituto Ricardo Jorge). We can but them in pharmacies, supermarkets, even vending machines in public transport stations. Since May 14, it is mandatory to use them in closed spaces. The masks are being made in several versions, from "community" ones to "medical staff" ones. They are made in Portugal in fashion/garment factories that were quickly reconverted.

My take on masks is this: whilst one may not prevent me catching much, it at east stops my involuntary spittle or whatever going further from my face than it needs to go, and certainly not onto innocent passers-by.

I made my own - mask, not passer-by: a handkerchief folded four thichnesses, and then the ends stitched back to form a loop through each of which I passed a bit of twine which then gets knotted to two rubber bands. Works perfectly well, but boy is it hot as the temperature out here rises! Rubber bands don't fare well in sunshine - have you noticed?

When I come home, I spray the thing with alcohol and hang it to dry. I then wash both my hands and face with soap and hot water. The face already hangs - whether dry or not, so little need for added effort there.

Actually, if I survive the run of this pandemic, it might become a pleasant habit to wash my face every time I come home (feels kinda nice, like a cold shower without the inconvenience), even though we don't get the 50s Glaswegian smogs I remember with such grimy affection... Imagine being a coal miner: it could change your whole life.

Hey, jerk, how about you limit yourself to your ignorance which you so freely spread and don't comment about my professional attitude and competency of which you have no idea. Not that stopped you so far but this is going too far. In my profession I'm better than most and the fact that I humor myself responding to you doesn't mean you know me.
I have nothing to respond to you that was not being responded before in these threads but you ignored and kept looking for something else.

Are you sure, or is it that the Dunning Kruger effect showing it's head?  Perhaps God Complex?

By the way, you were one of the many saying FL was going to hell, just wait two weeks, all it would take is two weeks.  You have no credibility anymore on C-19.  With treating your patients, I'll give you that, since I have no knowledge of your services.  But you, like many others, have made repeated predictions that have not come true.

Your opinion is now meaningless.  You have proven yourself to be an untrustworthy source on C-19 conditions what may or may not happen.

Joe, you could follow Trump's lead:

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/21/trump-doesnt-wear-coronavirus-mask-to-ford-plant.html

What a guy!

I dont either.  For me, it is an age thing.  I am not at risk of this.  For him, it is probably that he has the best doctors in the world thing testing him everyday.  Pretty simple.

Not to mention, how are you suppose to give a press conference and talk with a mask on.  Furthermore, did wear a mask except for when talking, so you should check your sources.

Some guy with a mask on the other day complimented me on my hat.  At first I thought he said "nice fedora."  I dont wear fedoras and corrected him.  He replied, "no, nice fedora!"  Once again I looked at him oddly until he screamed, "Akubra! Nice Akubra!"  That's the brand, which I was pretty damn surprised he knew.  Point though, criticizing Trump for not wearing a mack at a press conference is dumd; you cant talk clearly with them on.

Not to mention, these same news sources ignore Schumer doing the same thing, talking to the press without a mask on.

How 'bout Taiwan?  Or South Korea?  Or Singapore?  All jurisdictions with a long history of their citizens wearing masks in public.  Ever been to any of them?

All of whom have experienced far less effects from COVID-19, despite their population density.

Good point.

However, I thought SK did so good because of all the testing.

Before and after the visit he took two dozen anti malaria pills because he knows- he knows- and only he knows... that is the way to take on this Corona virus ...

( and if it did not help at least he did not get malaria)

Really Pieter?  This is what you are focusing on?

What a mess.  He and his doctor made a decision about prescriptions every American in the countries does.  And this is your new battle cry.  Really, you guys need to get a life!

This is why nobody trusts the press anymore.  Focusing on stupid stories like this.

Compare this hero with the leaders in South Korea. Both countries had their first Covid case the same day. One leader acted and saved tens of thousands of lives...the other said the virus will magically go away and now we are approaching 100,000 deaths and 40,000,000 unemployed.

What a hero.

Yep, the heroes of South Korea, who are now monitoring the movements of all of their citizens, requiring everyone check in via an app with their temps twice a day, will forcably remove anyone suspected of the virus and placed in a dorm, not allowing anyone to leave their house while dropping off all supplies to them.

Sounds like a great place, but no thank you.  I'd rather have my freedoms.

I dont know if we cant, just we were told in the beginning of this thing to just make our own due to shortage.

Now half of everyone with a mask is just wearing a piece of cloth.  Many companies have jumped on the bandwagon creating simple single layer cloth masks.  I doubt they are effective at all.  But since they have become the new norm, I doubt they will go away either.  People will continue wearing them instead of getting certified masks.

I was going to put this in the humor section, but thought it may piss some people off, so I'll just laugh at it here.  Below is the new CDC guidelines on schools reopening.

Yeah, none of this is going to work in K through 8.  Masks worn by everyone over 2?   ;D ;D ;D

Not to mention schools just dont have the space to keep all desks 6 feet (2 meters) apart.

Hey, but what do you expect from the same government that ruined the gas can.

By the way, you were one of the many saying  FL was going to hell, just wait two weeks, all it would take is two weeks.

Since about a week ago, the rate of reported infections is picking up according to the Johns Hopkins website (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html), instead of stabilizing or declining. Maybe things are not worse because the citizens are more responsible than the leadership?

Also, this is how it could have gone, and still may:

Maryland reopens—and quickly sees its largest COVID-19 spike
https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/05/maryland-reopens-and-quickly-sees-its-largest-covid-19-spike/

Quote
Maryland reported its highest number of new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday—just four days after the state began easing public health restrictions aimed at thwarting the spread of disease.

Though state officials note that an increase in testing and a backlog of test results may partly explain the spike, the case counts overall suggest that disease transmission had not declined in the lead-up to re-opening—and transmission could very easily increase as residents begin venturing into public spaces more frequently.

Maryland’s outcome may hold lessons for other states attempting their own reopening. As of today, May 20, all 50 states have begun easing restrictions at some level, according to The Washington Post.

Better safe than sorry.

That is seeming more and more to be the case ... when it comes to the economy.

And largely these new cases are being identified due to increase in testing.  Not to mention, it is still a very survivable virus for most.

Not sure if I wrote it here, but I give a rats ass about increase in new cases.  I'm only concerned about deaths, because the fact is, this is nothing but a cold for the vast majority of people.  That's right, I said it is just a cold for most, that's it.

Trench age groups and protect nursing homes, like what FL is doing and where the majority of deaths are.  Beyond that, let it rip.

We need to start facing the fact that waiting for a vaccine, which may never arrive, is not a plan or strategy, in this case.  It's the scientific equivalent to praying and hoping God gives you what you want.

Meanwhile, I am thinking about getting a hair cut soon.

Media barbershop opens in defiance of Gov. Wolf’s coronavirus shutdown orders, even though cases in Delaware County show no sign of flattening
