I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to post a new thread to this, but thought this may be an appropriate section to at least start.  Since we can see some of the damage from the recent tornado from our office, Tim and I went out to show some of the effected areas.

I was selling my Mamiya ZD camera but i think i will keep it for the black and white stuff. It is the cheapest 22Mp solution available, especially for use with my Hartblei super rotator :-)

Those of you who use the Hartblei, what can you say concerning it's sharpness?  How about a comparison to Mamiya 645 lenses?  I shoot a lot of studio automotive subjects and crispness is necessary.  Any info would be helpful.  To keep the subject on the thread, here's a couple of recent shots.  Thanks, Jim

It doesn't compare that well with digital lenses, or the Mamiya prime lenses.

I use it mainly as an effect lens for shallow DOF, portraits etc. Has the coolest mechanism. Now if they'd only put some modern digital glass into it.

It really depends of the lens you have. i have had two lenses wich were totally unsharp but my recent one is fairly sharp. As mentioned before, the hartblei are fun lenses, even the ones with the carl zeiss glass are not up to the mamiya quality glass. I have the 35. 80 and 120mm for my canon and the 45 for the mamiya and they all produce beuatifull images.....

Thanks for the update on the Hartblei lenses.  I think I'll wait to see if something new comes along.  As far as the shifter shot is concerned, we removed the driver's side seat, played around with the angle a bit and shot it with the Mamiya 28mm at F22.  The lighting is a combination of direct and diffused, it was shot with the P45.  I can't see the benefit of upgrading to the P45+, although if a larger sensor were to be announced I probably would go for it.  Jim

I'm still amazed at the 'tele' use of good glass and back

Isn't another big benefit of the + series to be longer exposures? I know that doesn't apply for the car shots, but I'm wondering about architecture work. By the looks of it though, your P45 hands longer exposures quite well. What are some of the longer exposures that you've done with that back?

In response to the question about long exposure times with the P45, we frequently make exposures of 40-60 seconds.  There is no problem with noise at those exposure times but it's my understanding that the P45 will handle much longer exposures.  Jim

Dave,

The P45 (non P+) could do long exposures even before the newer P+ backs came out.  Here is a new tool that might be of help to you also.  It is the Multi-Pop / Multi-Exposure box from Kapture Group.

Happy Easter!
