Might I point out that "Syndrome" starts with "S," not "R."

Do you mean "...a severe case of FDS?" or simply "... of DS?"

I think this debate wouldn't be complete if we didn't mention FSD. FSD (Full Self-Driving) is the autonomous driving system developed by Tesla.  FSD system was designed from the ground up to rapidly process neural networks.

Quote
During Tesla’s earnings call yesterday, where the company very justifiably crowed about their record revenue and Model Y production at their new Texas factory, Tesla CEO and adorable optimist Elon Musk gave the world what they wanted and confidently predicted that Tesla would achieve “full self-driving” — a term usually understood to refer to SAE Autonomy Levels 4 and 5, requiring no monitoring or input from whomever is in the car — less than a year from now.

Yes. I am.  And the opinions still apply.  The view from here is unobstructed and the characteristics listed still apply, too.

We just hate to see our neighbours destroying themselves.

I agree with you that often an outsider's view can be clearer and less biased because they don't have a dog in the fight.  But your beliefs are pretty strong.  So I don't think you can give a neutral recommendation or analysis in many cases that effect Americans.

In my case, I don't have enough understanding of Canadian politics or culture to make too many recommendations except for the area of dual language.  There are many in America who push for that here.  And I think that it's devisive and separates citizens into different groups.

Here's a lady with an unorthodox view of what constitutes free speech, https://www.inlander.com/spokane/lesley-haskell-wife-of-spokane-county-prosecutor-calls-herself-white-nationalist-uses-n-word-as-slur/Content?oid=23162154. She seems to claim that racial slurs are protected free speech. Her husband is a county prosecutor, must make for wild dinner time conversations.

My point is a country should have one official language.  Speak what you want privately.   If it doesn't it creates problems as you've had in Canada between French-speaking and English-speaking provinces.  It almost broke up Canada a few years back.  We don't need that here in America.

Dozens of other countries disagree with you.  It's a non-event here, fading to insignificance in the light of the destruction of democracy and the serious possibility of civil war we're seeing in the USA.

DeSantis fails to adequately denounce Nazi protests (or at all), https://floridapolitics.com/archives/491589-gov-ron-desantis-press-secretarys-tweet-suggests-denial-of-nazi-protest/.

You wouldn't think that denouncing white supremacist nazi demonstrations would be a controversial thing to do, but it seems it is these days. Why so timid?

Quebec independence has been an issue for decades.  The different languages and culture of French-speaking Quebecois have often been two of the reasons they've given for breaking away from Canada proper.  Instituting two languages in America would only encourage more identity politics and conflict, not less.  Why stop with two languages?  There are over 100 different peoples in the USA with associate languages.  How would adding another official language unite the people of America?  Being an immigrant nation requires that everyone regardless of their background have some common understanding of who we are.  Having a single language encourages that.  Having two or more does not.

That and his confusions between FDS and FDR will fit nicely in my long list of his posting history of confusions and misunderstandings. It gets longer by the day.

A note that may be of interest for some outside of the United States and some U.S. citizens as well, the United States does not have an official language. Some states do have english as the official state language, some do not, and some states have multiple official languages.

The only problem I see is those whose official language is stupidly will fail to understand and post more of their official language here.

The only official language besides English in the lower 48 states is Sioux in South Dakota where 30,000 speak it.  I'm not expecting them to go on the warpath again any time soon to demand independence.  Actually, they may already be free having their own Nation there.

The fact is I've been in no official court or government agency where anyone official spoke anything but English.  Sure, Spanish employees might speak between themselves Spanish.  But official court and legal stuff is all in English.  When I was in  Federal court in Manhattan, a translator was translating the English proceedings into Chinese.  Contrarily, in Canada, all official documents have to be processed in both French and English.  How is this handled in their legislature when parliamentarians speak?

Some states give special recognition to languages other than english in either their constitution or by statute. The Louisiana Constitution for example in Article XII §4: The right of the people to preserve, foster, and promote their respective historic linguistic and cultural origins is recognized. Louisiana state law provides in Title 43 §204: Advertisements to be in English; duplication in French permitted

A. When advertisements are required to be made in relation to judicial process, or in the sale of property for unpaid taxes, or under judicial process or any other legal process of whatever kind, they shall be made in the English language and may in addition be duplicated in the French language.

B. State and local officials and public institutions are reconfirmed in the traditional right to publish documents in the French language in addition to English.

New Mexico gives special recognition to Spanish.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico#Official_language

New Mexico's original state constitution of 1911 required all laws be published in both English and Spanish for twenty years after ratification; this requirement was renewed in 1931 and 1943, with some sources stating the state was officially bilingual until 1953. Nonetheless, the constitution does not declare any language "official". While Spanish was permitted in the legislature until 1935, all state officials are required to have a good knowledge of English; consequently, some analysts argue that New Mexico cannot be considered a bilingual state, since not all laws are published in both languages.

However, the state legislature remains constitutionally empowered to publish laws in English and Spanish, and to appropriate funds for translation. Amendments to the New Mexico constitution must be approved by referendum printed on the ballot in both English and Spanish. Certain legal notices must be published in English and Spanish, and the state maintains a list of newspapers for Spanish publication.

With regard to the judiciary, witnesses and defendants have the right to testify in either of the two languages, and monolingual speakers of Spanish have the same right to be considered for jury duty as do speakers of English. In public education, the state has the constitutional obligation to provide bilingual education and Spanish-speaking instructors in school districts where the majority of students are Hispanophone. The constitution also provides that all state citizens who speak neither English nor Spanish have a right to vote, hold public office, and serve on juries.

In 1989, New Mexico became the first of only four states to officially adopt the English Plus resolution, which supports acceptance of non-English languages. In 1995, the state adopted an official bilingual song, "New Mexico – Mi Lindo Nuevo México".  In 2008, New Mexico was the first to officially adopt a Navajo textbook for use in public schools.
