I have been highlighting for two years, that there are both health and economic issues that were and are still paramount.

That this pandemic disease, as well as the effort to contain its spread, was going to affect the economy was obvious from the beginning. While you've been congratulating yourself for recognizing the obvious, you've been blind to the fact that the people you've criticized for not considering the economic affects are very aware and concerned regarding both health and economic issues and the risks they entail.

Unfortunately, the press and Democrats pushed health issues to the detriment of economic ones.

This is an example of the crap you believe because you assume that people with differing political views don't share your concerns regarding the pandemic's impact on economics and society. Thru your very narrow lens, you see 2-dimensional heroes and villains based on your politics.

They concluded people who were concerned about economic issues were somehow evil, a political position started because it was a presidential election year.

Another load of crap for the reasons stated above. Certainly a division was created based on politics which ignored, misrepresented, or made false claims regarding public health risks, prevention measures, and medical science. It happened from the very beginning as this March 31, 2020 video illustrates. It has continued ever since with stupid people choosing to believe information derived from politicians, pundits, and the internet rather than listening to the world's leading infectious disease experts and public health services. Here's a recent example of belief vs science regarding the drugs Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin.

It's still not over.  We'll have to wait months, possibly years to get a real understanding of what results from different positions and actions taken by the states.

We will have to wait months, possibly years, to get a real understanding. Meanwhile, you continue to jump to conclusions based on a very narrow, 2-dimensional, black and white, and politically motivated view of anyone involved in making public health decisions and those who advise them.

Most people who are concerned about economic problems also understood there was a balanced approach one needed in taking appropriate action for both problems.

People who are concerned about the health impacts of COVID-19 also understand the need for a balanced approach in taking appropriate action.

Frankly, most New Yorkers are more upset about his decision that led to the death of hundreds possibly thousands of elderly

We really have to wonder what's going on there in the USA and where it's likely to lead.

Polarization is never good in politics, and in my memory, never has it been so polarized.

Inevitable, I guess, in a rigid two-party system.

The Democrats and many posters here have not given any concern for economic issues for the last 2 years. They placed science first meaning to focus only on the health issues. Those chickens are going to come home to roost next year as inflation continues and we possibly face another recession. Congress will change hands and the Republicans will take over.  Your arguments don't reflect what really happened.

The Democrats are going to get blamed for the bad economic conditions. Most people know that it was their policies of placing business shutdown first that created most the economic mess.  Biden and democratic governors focused on the science. No one believes the opposite.

How would the public and economy respond to failing to take measures to mitigate the spread of a deadly pandemic virus? How would wider spread, higher death tolls, and even more severe overcrowding of hospitals, in more places, with even greater depletion of medical resources have affected public reaction and its impact on the economy?

Biden and democratic governors focused on the science.

Thank goodness someone did!!

Placing science first would be a good thing, but those clowns can't think ahead, analyze and envision even the short-term future.

Were it not for many years of funding, research, preparation, and planning for the type of pandemic we are now facing; the current vaccines would not exist and the situation would be much worse than it is or has been—knee jerk reactions notwithstanding.

The point I've been making for two years is that leaders had to look at both sides of the coin.  Covid was affecting public health and the economy. The Democrats only looked at the science and health and not the economy at all.  Their attitude was, screw the economy. Shutdown everything. I cautioned that long after Covid was gone, we'd have to live with the damages to our pocketbooks.  The Democrats ignored that because Trump was concerned about money and they were trying to create a political difference against him for the elections.

So now that Covid is on the way out, we're left with the economic damage.  Inflation, loss of businesses, people will lose homes, etc.  Most people are not going to believe Democrats when they say they were concerned with the economy.  That's false.  In fact, you and them still now consider the science as important.  You just said it in your post, albeit in a contradictory way to your first point.  You're still not convinced.  Well, this will play out in the elections next year.

The Fed is just as bad.  You'd think those so-called experts would realize when you print trillions of dollars, there's going to be an effect on the cost of things.   Democrats called for defunding the police and reducing penalties for crimes, and now crime is out of control.  Accuse Russia of colluding with Trump falsely and now they're buddy buddy with China, all against the west's interests.  Eliminate the wall and invite migrants, and illegal immigration explodes.  Stop drilling and price of oil explodes too.   Duh!  All the chickens are coming home to roost.

The Democrats are going to get blamed for the bad economic conditions.

Yes.  By idiot partisans with lots to gain by assigning blame to "the enemy".

The "bad economic conditions" you refer to are global, not local.  They're temporary, not permanent and caused by events clearly related to pandemics, not policies.

If you'd stop viewing everything through your myopic, partisan, local, self-interested viewpoint, you might see more truth and less horse poo.

And again, how the eff would you know what "no one" believes?  That's high school rhetoric.  Uninformative and unconvincing.

The point I've been making for two years is that leaders had to look at both sides of the coin.

What you have yet to understand, over the past two years, is that the sides of the coin are not simply flat. Each side presents a complex set of multifaceted problems and each facet contains potential risks, benefits, and uncertainty which must be considered in making any decision. There are sources of expert advice which decision makers can access, but crystal balls are in short supply. Ultimately, the virus doesn't care about politics or economics—it simply wants to infect the greatest number of people it can find and keeps looking for more.

Covid was affecting public health and the economy.

COVID-19 was going to negatively impact public health and the economy with or without mitigation efforts to protect public health. Fortunately, there was government action taken to mitigate the damage both to public health and the economy. Without public health mitigation efforts, the damage to both public health and the economy would have been so great that not implementing measures to reduce the pandemic spread of the virus would have been a gross dereliction of duty and a violation of public trust.

The Democrats only looked at the science and health and not the economy at all.

BS does not become less false or more true with repetition. Repetition also does nothing to reduce the odor that accompanies the BS, it only makes the smell more intense.

So now that Covid is on the way out...

Where is that happening?

The Fed is just as bad.  You'd think those so-called experts would realize when you print trillions of dollars, there's going to be an effect on the cost of things.

Yes, the "printing" surely contributed to our inflation. But what was the alternative? Millions losing their homes and going hungry? Innumerable businesses going under? It could have been a real disaster, but the cash infusions did a pretty good job of keeping things relatively stable and preventing a lot of misery. Some modest inflation seems a small price to pay. I too am retired and do not like to see my dollars shrink in value, but I am not so attached to my own comfort and ease that I think that gov't monetary policy should be designed for my benefit.

You really think Covid is on its way out? Over 1,000 direct deaths due to Covid every day...and that's on its way out? With much of the world totally unvaccinated...how long do you think we'll get a variant that doesn't respect current vaccines?

In America, the Democrats are in charge of the whole government including the presidency and both chambers of Congress.  They'r the ones in charge of the budget and wanting to increase spending and printing for the $2 trillion BBB bill.  The president re=nominated the Fed chair. The Fed chair's decisions are Bidens.  So the public will blame Democrats for inflation and higher prices.
