We need <insert usual suspects here> to explain this stuff to us, but they’ve all gone into hiding.

Please, no explaining necessary, the silence has been golden.  :)

I came across this interesting podcast that investigates the beginnings of the current political involvement of the so-called "religious right", how it came to be so powerful and so directed. It was no accident, someone built it that way, https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/experiment/episodes/evangelicals-republican-voters.

I enjoyed the "history in the making" aspect of this, irrespective of the political content. It's interesting to hear from people who shape history while they are still alive and in their own (albeit edited) words.

However, I am truly confounded by those persons who attack another for simply wearing a mask. Why, in heavens name, would someone go out of their own daily routine to heckle someone and how does this behaviour actually make their own day any better? While we may have some anti-maskers/vaxxers up here in Canada, what's currently going on in the U.S. is truly astonishing, and not in a good way.

Marv

The reason seems clear to me. The no-mask morons don't like seeing others with masks because, at some level, it reminds them of their own stupidity and selfishness.

No-mask morons? Oh, you mean those who took them off when the CDC told them is was safe?

"My best attribute is knowing when not to answer stupid questions."-Gina Gershon

No-mask morons being those who can't understand that data and science change so the recommendations of scientists change with it*. Then they ask stupid questions.
Science Is Not A Liberal Conspiracy.
Seen again from no-mask morons; those who never lets complete ignorance of a subject (in this case Virology) get in the way of having strong opinions about it.

Many here know what moronic no-masker's do.

So, Andrew, are you saying Fauci, the CDC and the NIH are driven by science and not by political favors? That would be an interesting conversation, except rational conversations with you are an oxymoron. If you can quote Gina Gershon, you should listen to Gina Gershon (with my apologies to Jerry Seinfeld).

What political favours would those be?

How does NOT getting vaccinated help people?

You can ask but does the audience here need to hear another “big lie”?  ;)

Well, it does help a little to mitigate the overpopulation problem.   :(

Unfortunately the no mask/no vax dribble-chins will most likely have already passed on their genes when the covid gets them.

But you want to see a huge rush for vaccines? Here's how. Starting now, anyone eligible for a jab but who hasn't gotten one will be held personally responsible for any covid-related medical costs. No insurance, no Medicaid, no Medicare. Have to sell your house, cash out retirement funds? Tough. You wanted "personal choice," here it is.

You've got to love the behaviour of someone who about once a month walks into the room, takes a dump on the carpet and departs, never to be seen again until next month.

If you want to read a summary of how to conduct a slow coup d'état in the USA, you could do worse than to listen to this NPR Fresh Air podcast interview with a New Yorker writer who investigated the continued election "investigation" going on in Arizona and who is funding similar and related activities around the country, https://www.npr.org/2021/08/05/1024741930/jane-mayer-dark-money-challenge-to-the-election-results. It will dispel notions anyone might have that these efforts are spontaneous or grass roots. People are being played and they're falling for it.

As much as anti-masking and ant-vaxxing invite ridicule, and I'm not immune to that impulse, it's also very sad. Just when you think your population is living in modern times, they revert. This is not good for anyone.

I also came across this short 4-5 minute thought by Steven Pinker about libertarianism that some might enjoy, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obts3Y-XRjg. Even if you're pre-disposed to disagree, listen anyway and try to be objective.
