I can't read the article (paywall) but can you suggest a physical mechanism to explain how it could possibly be the case that a lockdown does not reduce the infection and increased contact not increase it?

What explains this graph, without mentioning lockdown?

Spikes all started in August, one of the hottest months of the year.  Perhaps people started to gather inside to enjoy the A/C.

As a comparison, GA and CO in the USA had similar C-19 policies in the beginning of the year.  GA saw spikes in June whereas CO did not.  GA in June is hot and humid, so people more then likely went inside to enjoy the A/C.  CO is still rather comfortable in June, so more people stayed outside.

I don't know if any of you follow golf. If you don't, you can skip to the next post. For those that do, you probably know that Bryson DeChambeau got all bulked up during the lock down, and now can drive the ball 400 yards using his mega-driver with 48" shaft. Well, he has won a couple of tournaments, including the U.S. Open, which is no small feat, and was the odds on favorite to win the Masters last weekend. Instead he flamed out, and has now thrown his caddy under the bus. Here is his take on it:

"At the beginning of the week, I felt like I could have a great chance to win the tournament if I just played my game," DeChambeau said. "Shoot, I made enough birdies this week and eagles to have a chance to win. There's no doubt about that. I made way too many mistakes that I've got to talk about with my caddie and go, 'Hey, how do we not make these mistakes anymore, how can we work better as a team to have that not happen?'"

Notice "I" made birdies and eagles, but "we" made mistakes. What a putz. Kind of reminds me of Trump.

https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/brandon-tierney-lit-into-bryson-dechambeau-for-throwing-caddie-under-the-bus-01eqbyky48re

If I could drive the ball over 400 yards and still never shoot par, I'd still be pretty happy.

Trump says coronavirus could be thwarted by summer heat, citing DHS study
Published: April 23, 2020 at 7:46 p.m. ET

President Donald Trump said Thursday evening that the spread of COVID-19 could be drastically slowed by the onset of warmer and more humid weather during a Coronavirus Task Force press briefing, citing data from the Department of Homeland Security.

“Maybe this goes away with heat and light. It seems like that’s the case,” the president speculated. “I think a lot of people are going to go outside all of a sudden.”

Which one of you is perhaps very wrong?

You seem to think that freedom of speech means we have to accept as true everything you post. Freedom of speech means that we have the freedom to disagree with you. So stop complaining. The whining never stops. I had to stop myself from making a sweeping generalization that all right wing people, especially Trump supporters, have this insatiable need to whine all the time just like Trump. I'll refrain from doing that. There are probably a few that don't.
Telling people to not listen to the other side is not the same as giving your opinion and allowing others to give theirs.  What you want is to shut down the other side.  Call the other side names and insult.  You've been practicing it for four years.  That's antithetical to free speech and open debate.  The left has a corner on that market.  They're afraid to debate.

What?

You, Alan, are literally the only person I've heard suggest returning to the gold standard in the last 40 years. I realize I may have missed some references to it somewhere, I don't read everything, but I'm having doubts about your use of "Everyone".
Everyone's who's in favor of gold standard changes their mind when they become a politician.  A gold standard doesn't allow them to print to pay for deficit spending.  They're afraid that if they can't continue to give people free stuff, they won't get re-elected.  Is that better?  :)

Unlike America where the screwups start with the governors, in Europe, it's the country's leaders that screw it up.

You can still post all you want, so nobody is being shut down. I was just expressing my opinion that your opinion could be safely ignored. You don’t debate. You just post you opinions and expect everyone to treat them as true, and get upset if anyone disagrees. You have already called Andrew a liar this morning, for example.

He lied about what I said.  I never said it.

I listen to the other side when they provide posts that are not factually rubbish as you've done here repeatedly and outlined for you to ignore. When you do post something that's factual, I'm more than open to accepting it. Do that more, you'll get more respect and attention to what you write.

Like calling others liars or accusing others of calling you a liar when they didn't.
Maybe you'd like to comment about Joes-Kitchen post Today at 01:20:10 pm; he seems to be on your side and you don't seem to have any issue with that post, or do you?
I don't expect you'll answer.

When posts are made telling people not to read someone else's posts, that's trying to shut down the other side.  Using words like "safely ignore" is the same thing.  You just did it again.   Luckily, unlike Twitter, you can't censor. I give my opinions.  This is a forum.  No one has a monopoly on the truth.  We're all giving our opinions.

Whatever, Andrew.  Every thread you get involved in you start a fight and argument and get insulting.   You're tiresome.

Whatever, Andrew.
And again: Without absurdity, we would have no one to laugh at. Thank you for your contributions.
Of course insults perceived come from one direction as far as you are aware after insulting others and pleading for a post lock.

Yes, I know pointing out your misunderstanding seems insulting. Poor Alan. If you are too tired to answer questions factually as I predicted, maybe take a nap.....from posting.
Getting tired trying to find out when Trump said he wasn’t for the Gold Standard?

Sounds about right, and business owners have a right to be pissed.  For all the talk Dems say about liking small businesses, they sure are going out of their way to destroy them.  People are now at the point of disobeying these things and finding loopholes, or at least that is what I see.

My favorite was when the restaurants in Philly were told that no one is allowed to sit at the bar.  The powers to be though never said anything about high-tops directly against the bar for people to sit at and, then, just order from the bartender as per usual.

But anyway, we are thinking about doing a road trip after Thanksgiving, perhaps to Miami and Dallas, to get away from our own tyrants.
You're right. People are upset and willing to violate the rules.   ???

What would you prefer? Instead of "can be safely ignored", would you prefer "fact-free", "untrue", "wrong", "obviously wrong", "ridiculous", "fantasyland", "gross exaggeration", "sweeping generalization"...?

Opinions come in all shapes and sizes. Some are right, some are wrong. Some are unfounded, some are ill-founded, and some are well-founded. Some are prescient, some are asinine. I could go on, but you get the idea. You keep posting your opinions, and we'll be the judge of what weight to accord them. Nobody is stopping you from posting. Knock yourself out with your posts.

Oh, the people with the facts have a monopoly on the truth, at least until someone comes along with better facts.

Thanks for confirming to others here you are both wrong and act like children.

You are filled with nothing but hate, which is why I prefer not to respond to you in a serious manner, child like if you will.  You may be right, or you may not be, but, as they say, the devil does not care who does the hating so long as the hating is done.

With your constant insults and innuendos, you seem more then happy to be Beelzebul's tool piece.  Until you actually show you are willing to have a conversation without giving into insults, don't expect me, or many others on here (have you not noticed?), to take you seriously.

But I don't hate you Joe (or whoever you might be; zero transparency). You don't carry any weight IMHO, or deserve dislike let alone hate. And I don't take you, like Alan at all seriously and there is zero evidence I've ever seen, you deserve respect; as a photographer, as someone knowing anything about EI, or in this context, politics. Maybe you hate that.

What fun fact to know and tell showed up in my newsfeed today?

"Lysandra, 38, even claimed Ivanka once 'blamed a fart on a classmate'"

Sounds plausible to me.

The Javankas are going to be facing a tough crowd if/when they return to New York City.
