The Gunpowder Plotters were the Proud Boys of their era.

Maybe we are seeing the birth of a new tradition - effigies with strange orange hair being burned on bonfires on January 6 every year.

However, it has been a while since we invaded the seat of government and tried to kill the legislators.
Indeed, that's an old piece but shows Alan again writing without thinking or examining the facts. it has been a while since he did.

Apparently, with Trump gone, there is no reason to frequent the overpriced Trump Washington Hotel. All the waiters can now breath easy knowing they won't have to go through that kabuki dance of serving his royal highness a Diet Coke.

I didn't know Trump flew to the Netherlands to stir up trouble.

I don't think the Dutch would let Trump land in Netherlands.

With the number of ongoing investigations, I'll be surprised if he's allowed out of the USA.

A long (almost 3 hours), but quite interesting discussion with Lauren Southern about future of politics, misguided liberalism, mismanaged immigrations, Americans travelling in Europe in Canadian shirts, and other interesting subjects: Interview With Lauren Southern

Why doesn't it seem to bother more people that some states are looking for ways to make it MORE difficult to vote, https://www.politico.com/news/2021/03/15/voting-restrictions-states-475732.

Isn't this exactly the wrong attitude?

It depends on what your objective is. The current rash of voting restrictions are designed to make it more difficult for people who typically vote for Democrats to vote.

Well sure, but I was thinking more of the long-term health of democracy as a concept, if that isn't too pretentious. If the country goes down the road of setting up rules that make life more difficult for one of the parties, then at some point, which may be hard to spot, don't you cross over into the Soviet or Communist Chinese governing paradigm. Once everyone thinks the elections are shams, what kind of a country are you left with? Short-term partisanship is one thing, but surely the basic purpose of the country has to eventually matter to someone. Your side winning can't be the end game, can it? Or are all those words in the Constitution just part of some self-delusion.

In a local election a year ago a few miles from where I live I  New Jersey, 19% of the mail-in votes were fraudulent..  Some of the Democrat candidates were illegally harvesting votes.  Fortunately, an alert mailman noticed a problem and brought it to the attention of the Postal police and it was investigated.  The election was declared null and void and three or four people were charged with election law crimes.

There are very big issues with mail-in votes. While my wife and I voted by mail in, we requested the ballot. That's fine and I agree that would be an acceptable way of voting.  But here's the problem.  What happened during the election, ballots were mailed to everyone who was still listed on a local voting roll whether they moved or were dead.  That attracts fraud as millions of ballots are circulating without proper recipients. These ar often left near mailboxes in apartment buildings form anyone to pick up to complete and mail back in.   Also, Democrats want no ID for voting.  That's silly and just attracts more fraud.  What modern country today do you vote without showing proper identification?

Who could be against requiring mail-in ballots be requested by the voters and having to show a photo ID when you vote in person?

But if many people believe it's already a sham because the ballot boxes are being "stuffed", then you already have reached that point. Having a better way to authenticate the votes and assure games aren't being played seems reasonable to me. It would give everyone more confidence the game isn't rigged.

$2.1 trillion in new taxes over ten years.  Of course, nothing about lowering spending.  2.1 trillion $(210 billion a year) is nowhere enough to cover the budget deficits so they'll continue to print as well. Our deficit this year is over three thousand billion.  Plus extra taxes just lower business activity increasing job loss and income for people.  Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Due to guilt and other factors, as seen, he can't answer that question.

This subject would deserve its own discussion thread.
