So instead you simply say, well I don't know and neither do you so lets just chat away mindlessly?
In other words: the status quo.
But don't feel bad: every morning, as I have breakfast, I switch between Sky and BBC News channels. They are outbidding one another in rampìng up the terrors of staying home for one's own protection as much as for that of others; the weather is going to be fairly nice, and so it is now going to be physically impossible for people to stay indoors. The Sun God is going to send a ray of deadly sunlight into their homes and burn them all on the couches upon which they sprawl if they ignore his shiny beacon and stay inside.
Amazingly, a lazy population that was always being scolded into walking, taking the fat dog for a run, eating less crisps and drinking less beer is somehow the same, super-fit population that has always, without exception, jogged every morning in the local park before having an Olympic Committee-approved vitamin and protein-rich meal and then cycling briskly off to work. Suddenly, a world population of lazy, fat fucks in string vests is the same population of lazy fat fucks in Superman leotards that has this irresistible urge to get out there and exercise until sunset.
The truth, dear readers, is the same as it is for smoking: if you want to stop you stop; if you do not you do not. It depends on having a little thing inside your head called determination. When you know that staying home is for the mutual good and saves lives, there is no problem in following that sensible advice unless you want to create such a problem for yourself and for others.
What the news channels are doing is having a ball playing with the massed psychoses of world populations, psyching them up to think they are being set up to become slaves to Big Brother, Big Sister or even Daddy Bigbucks. (Did I forget to menton China, Iran or North Korea?)
Regarding the economy: I have come up with a solution to everything: when this crisis is over, simply cancel the time it lasted and carry on as it you had just awakened from a long nightmare.
The money spent saving Tom, Dick and especially Harry doesn't count: it's just artificial paper and promises. As long as all countries are willing to see it this way, there are no winners as there are no losers. There will be no slowed down economy as all the usual acquisitive motivators and desires never went away; the new goodies will fly off the shelves, boosted by the very time for which they had been unattainable. Being house-bound will have turned out to have been an advertiser's dream.
All's well that ends well.
