This is unbelievable. As a nation, have we collectively lost our minds? This is the second summer camp disaster I have posted about. Just wait until school starts.

Seems like there are many candidates for the Darwin Award this year. Is this some kind of anniversary year for the awards...seems like many are getting in line for the award.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I forgot to add. This occurred in Georgia, where the governor, who has not enacted a state-wide mask mandate, is suing the mayors of cities and towns, whose mayors have enacted mask mandates, to render them void. Masks, always the masks.

For what it is worth, we have never had a mask policy in Australia.
The information from many sources including WHO was that masks protect other people and not the wearer and are about 30% as effective as social distancing.
So basic hygiene of hand washing, social distancing of 1.5m and isolating incomings for two weeks is what we did and it worked until a month ago.

Then we had all of these crazies attend rallies and parties and it had got out of control in one state of Victoria.
We doubled our deaths since then and a mask policy has been introduced in that state.
It doesn't help though because the crazies and those who simply do not obey rules are still out there and the Victorian government is too soft.
Until you get the crazies off the street you can't control it.

What happened to schools and businesses after the outbreak?

What happened to schools and businesses after the outbreak?
The schools were closed at first and every kid had to learn from home.
Most schools went back for second term after Easter.
The general feeling was that kids were low risk and would be better for them at school rather than running around the street and also missing a year of school.
A few schools have had outbreaks and they just deep clean them (school not kids) and send them back.

You were only allowed to go out for shopping, exercise, work and medical treatment. No eating in so takeaway food only.
Most people worked from home if they could as there was very limited public transport as numbers were restricted on trains and buses.
Now pretty much anything is allowed as long as there is no more than 1 person per 4 sq metres. That may mean that a lot of businesses stay closed as they are not economical.
The government is paying a Job Keeper allowance which for some is more than they were earning.

That was until this latest outbreak where most states are banning people from hot spots and the whole state of Victoria.

However stocks are up, dollar is up, but we are slowly moving up the list of countries.

I saw a random web photo today, a city sign that had been spray-painted with "Covid is a lie". It's just one piece of graffiti, probably done by some loser, but could there be a significant critical mass of people who still don't think that Covid is a thing?

I had to go to an ear doctor today.  The waiting room was pretty packed, I'd say about ten patients all waiting with masks.  I must have"washed" my hands with antiseptic lotion about ten times.  I just cancelled my follow up lung CT scan in a NYC hospital.  Who wants to go into a crowded bldg like that?  I'm thinking of doing the scan here in a NJ lab where it's quieter and less people.  No big buildings or elevators with lots of people.  Then I can consult with the pulmonologist on the phone after he's reviewed the scan results.  Why risk seeing him in a crowded hospital if the scan is OK.

The schools decisions on what to do will be made in most places in the USA pretty similar to where you live.  However, all bets are off once infections break out.  It's a new world out there.

I'm surprised about the waiting room with 10 patients. That's poor scheduling and very irresponsible and actually pretty stupid.
Last week, when I visited a specialist, I was told to call them from the parking lot, and when I did, got permission to walk in, and I was the only patient in his office.

It was a big office with lots of doctors and traffic of patients.  Conversely, when I went to a dentist the other day, I waited outside in my car and there was only one other guy in the waiting room when I went it.    But there was only the dentist and a hygienist.  That's why I don't want to go to the hospital.  Too many patients; too many doctors.  They can't efficiently regulate people outside the hospital too wait, like the big office I went to today.  The office today could have had people waiting outside.  But a NYC hospital would be very difficult.  It's why I cancel my appt there that I made before Covid..

If doctor waiting rooms have to be so selective, how are business offices, schools, malls, and other places going to have people? Here's picture I took a couple of weeks ago in a Manhattan elevator.  I was the only one there.  But once the city opens up to regular office traffic, there're going to be a lot more people in the elevator.  The spacing is maybe four feet certainly not 6 feet or two meters.  Who wants to go in an elevator up to the 56th floor with three strangers sneezing in their masks?

Here you register with the front desk where they give you a buzzer very much like you get at restaurants. You then go out of the office and wait for the buzzer to go off, after which you see your doctor. No waiting room. I believe they use a buzzer as many older folk don't have a cell phone.

No surprise though, the stockmarket is forward-looking based on expectations of future performance. Also, a lot of money can only be earned when there is rapid movement (either up or down) in stock prices.

In the longer term, things are looking grim. Local experts/virologists do not see large scale vaccination before summertime 2021. And unemployment will rise.

Unfortunately, long after the virus is gone, we'll still be digging out of the economic hole.

I'm actually looking forward to the day the virus is gone...I'd call that day fortunate.

That has been my experience as well.  My primary care doctor practice still won't see any patient >65 for an in office visit.  Tele-medicine visits only.

Is your primary care doctor over 65? :)

To refuse treatments or consultations for patients over 65 is not that prudent. As I understand it, the infection rate for people under or over 65 is not much different. The main difference is that the older people suffer more when they get sick.

In addition, most older people seem to be more careful when it comes to going out and social distancing, and consequently, they are not exposed to as many contacts as the younger people.

No.  It is general office policy.  there are seven doctors and two PAs in the practice.

In the 4+ months of doing my daily newsletter I've covered a lot of advances in SARS-CoV-2 research.  One of my friends alerted me to this site:  https://radvac.org/  It is essentially a Do It Yourself (DIY) COVID-19 vaccine project.  All the steps are laid out for you to create your own nasal delivered vaccine.  It's based on sound science but you do need some modest equipment to get this done.  I have not costed out the needed supplies.  Great example of citizen science in action!!!

Telephone conferences with a medical doctor is probably worthless unless they're a psychiatrist.  :)

I went to the ear doctor because I had an infection.  He couldn't check that over the phone.   As I mentioned, I plan on getting a test from a lab, then let the doctor review it and talk to me over the phone.  That might work.  But skipping an actual hands on physical, especially for old people, could be the thing that kills them.  I have a friend who thought and his doctors thought he had covid.  He suffered at home for three weeks only to learn afterwards his symptoms were from cancer.  He's now being treated months later than he should have been.  There's risk both ways.  There's no simple answer.
