Perhaps because manny judges are politically appointed, all the way up to the SCOTUS.

A bit naked, isn't it? On the other hand, makes it transparent.

Even if so, and even if it is perhaps wrong, why wouldn’t Poland, or any other country, have any political and judicial system they want?
Who is Poland in this case? The politcians?
So you prefer a system like in China and Russia to name a few, where all cards are in one hand and opposition is hindered or even becomes illegal.
Turkey is on that road and so is Poland. The US also makes steps in that direction where Trump appoints yah sayers like Barr and replaces or condemns indepenent thinkers like Mueller that are not doing what he personaly likes.

Of course Polish politicians. Who else? European politicians?

"Separation of powers" is a doctrine of constitutional law under which the three branches of government (executive, legislative, and judicial) are kept separate. This is also known as the system of checks and balances, because each branch is given certain powers so as to check and balance the other branches

And it doesn't exist in many European countries. It certainly doesn't exist in the UK, despite Blair's unnecessary transformation of the judicial committee of the House of Lords into the Supreme Court while casually ignoring the fact that the executive continues to be part of the legislature.

It's a nice idea, but there's nothing to suggest that it is needed.

I am sure all states in the US have to follow some basic legal mandates... Like freedom of speech to name one.
America is a country.   We're all Americans regardless of what state we live in. So we harne a common constitution. There is no country called Europe.   Germans care little about Brits who care little about the French.   The problem with the EU is they've gone beyond a trade confederation and have become a supra government where foreigners tell other foreigners how to live politically and socially.   That's why Brexit happened and why the EU will break up eventually. Poland is just another sign of that.

Here are the rules for nations being part of the EU... https://europa.eu/european-union/about-eu/eu-in-brief_en
In the EU there are many different opinions but there are also these common values that every Nation should repect and they have signed to do so.
I do not share your view on why Brexit happened nor your view on the supra government.
BTW At the moment it is the US that dares to interfere with sanctions about the way we want to import our energy from Russia... now that is really something...

Can you imagine if we were still small separate countries...  like Brittain... I am not so sure about their fantastic trade deal with the US.

I didn't say they shouldn't have a trade compact. I said that they shouldn't interfere with each other's political and personal laws. That should be left up to each individual Nations Democratic decisions on how they should rule themselves.

Regarding gas  you should be allowed to import your energy from Russia and we should pull our divisions out of Germany and let you deal with the Bear on your own.

How about NHL using German hockey players?

EDIT:
Or God forbid, the Russian players?

I don't follow hockey although I always liked the Montreal Canadiens.   So I don't understand your point. Could you clarify?

Speaking of Germany:

Regarding the snap of Angie: surley, with the UK outta there, domination of Europe could be more easy? But hasn't that battle already been won in the factories?

Brits will always desire their BMWs, their Mercedes and their Porsches. For as long as they can continue to afford them, it will ever be so. Much like in the States, then. So the deficit will probably have the same complexion going forward, as modern people like to phrase it.

It will be US gas in of course... The US just want us to use their gas- nothing mystic about that.

My point was that the Northamerican NHL depends on the few selected German players as much as Germany depends on Russian gas.

Coincidentally, in the latest issue of German Spiegel, there were three articles describing the impending end of their 15-year long golden economic period.

I wonder if letting in a million immigrants had anything to do with it? Certainly had a lot to do with the rise of the new right, as with in much of Europe. And to think it didn't have to happen.

The irony of it being Britain that's pulling out is remarkable; its people problems are quite different, closer, I'd guess, to those of France.

The combined number of admitted refugees in Germany since 2015 is almost 1.5 millions. The associated costs were and remain staggering.

Quote
The public sector costs resulting from this inflow remain high. Federal expenditures allotted to asylum seekers stood at €20.8 billion (USD$23.6 billion) in 2018, or a little more than 6 percent of the entire federal budget. That’s a slight decrease from €21.2 billion in 2017, but more than in 2016, when the government spent €20.5 billion.

So now Spain wants to join Poland and do a Brexit too.
They've had it with Brussel gnomes overreach as well.  This is all going to be good for American trade negotiations.
