In a way you’re right Alan - without reciprocal health care rights, Rob could never have afforded to go live in Spain, so now Brexit would not be such a problem for hm.
There would be lower taxes if there was no national health care. With the extra money, you could afford private health care. With private health insurance you can go wherever you want whenever you want.
The problem is government fails us. Not only in GB. Here too. Our Social Security will run out of money by 2034 reducing payments to 80% of what they are now. Not that they pay that much in the first place. The average monthly Social Security payment is $1500. That's about $9 an hour if you were working 40 hours a week for it. For comparison, the minimum wage here has been raised to $15 an hour in many places which is nearly impossible to live on much less $9 an hour. They should drop the word Security in Social Security. It's a joke. They just raised normal retirement age again from 66 to 67. Imagine a bricklayer working until 67. They keep raising how much they take out of your salary. Social Security is taxed and they';re raising the levels.
Medicare, our national health coverage for seniors, is going broke quicker. with it though, the government is really raise the deductions from your salary. There's no limit. Meanwhile it's not free to seniors using it either. My wife and I spend around $5-6000 a year for it plus another couple of thousand for supplemental private health insurance.
We're all kidding ourselves. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
