My Vermont shot was really an accident. The magic light was from flare on the lens, which I didn't see when I took the shot, with a rangefinder camera. But I liked the result.

This image was scanned from a print, since I can't find the negative any more.

You guys are just trying to make the rest of envious. It was in fact a series of infrared bw images that first lured me into photography in a serious way. They were fantastic, another world, so surreal and so well done. They appeared in Globe and Mail, a national newspaper of Canada. Alas, at the time, I had neither the money nor the time to pursue bw photography. Sigh.

It's worth noting that HC-B thought of himself as a surrealist; I don't know how he'd have reacted to infrared, though who knows - maybe he dabbled in secret?

Rob, interesting that bit of info. To be clear, the image I remember was was not a landscape. It was urban, modern, futuristic looking. Look at the attached image: the background was similar but included the whole city hall and square, and some passersby. A businessman was walking by. He was up close and dominated the scene, looking very smart and wearing a dark suit. His attache case and arm were swinging in tandem with his business like stride. He exuded the look of an ultramodern businessman, and looked for all the world to be striding into the future and taking everyone with him. All in a glorious high contrast style that glowed with infrared qualities that only film can do. The background architecture really made it look futuristic. I guess I was impressed.

I don't recall a moment where my interest in photography started, I guess its something that has slowly built up over time. I imagine that's part of why I like to photograph a bit of everything. I enjoy b&w imagery, but have alway been most strongly drawn to cool colour palettes, and love the mix of dark blues against whites, like a beautiful Lawren Harris painting of Northern Canadian Landscapes.
