Ivo, I keep getting No Entry signs instead of your images. Is it just me?
The images appeared at first. I saw the Russian Hat and the Eiffel Tower one. But then they disappear!?
I never saw the cat in the Russian hat, but the Eiffel Tower showed this morning. Then, it too disappeared, replaced by the "no entry" symbol.
No cat in hat image appears for me, but the Eiffel Tower appears twice as thumb nail. The first image says error occurred. The second one will open. I wonder if this has something to do with the Eiffel Tower shot at night being copyrighted by the owner or somethng?

Offices. The lower building is the historical water scout office. And yes it is the entrance of the harbor and the first building ships see when they enter Antwerp. I guess it is a fair trade off: town prestige and function.

John, this is now a historical photo, Caledon Badlands have been closed a couple of years ago to the public.Yes, it's been closed for about two years now. They are supposed reopen as of this past August. It has a new parking lot and lookout platform. Last I checked they were deciding if there should be a trail around the perimeter. Walking on mounds is not allowed. Quite a hefty fine if caught. Parking on road is also prohibited. There may be a fee, not sure. I did three slide shows for my club based solely on images from this location. You can imagine how I felt when they closed it down for regeneration.
Dangerous environment. Few weeks back, one of my countrymen was found death after he lost his path, dehydrated and de-oriented...
Staying on designated trails in national parks is generally a good idea, not to mention in accordance with park rules. In Badlands, there is even a boardwalk for many trails. Saves the fragile ecosystem... and lives.

Hostas in the Rain
Excellent tonality and detail. Definitely an appropriate photograph for monochrome.
(The urban deer have eaten all our hostas, alas. The animals are cute—the little ones, especially—but voracious. And they love hostas. My wife discovered an entire extended family of nine of them (sic) taking it easy in our Maryland backyard last week, and no doubt startled the neighbors when she went out and screamed at them to leave. Should we send some of our critters up your way? Perhaps I could persuade our city council to round them up and put them on a ship to Nova Scotia. You have a lot more open space than we do.)
I like umbrellas too, whether white in the studio or pink by the sea:
Larry’s umbrellas are decorated with naïve art, a genre (partially) originating from the northern parts of the former Yugoslavia (Croatia, northern Serbia - where Novi Sad City is) and still very popular there. They do look fabulous. And I appreciate the "naive" art style. Part of the folklore, I guess, which the balkan and other people of that region are known for.
Still prefer girls, though:

Not at all. Looks realistic enough and probable. Besides, what was that videosoftware widely used in the carindustry praised for exactly this effect?
I got an uncomfortable feeling from first glance at the shot.
I think it gives me the impression of the speed effect going the wrong way, somehow. It's well graded in effect fore-to-aft regarding quantity of movement, but overall, not right IMO. Perhaps the shadow by the side of the engine is just too crisp, giving the sense that the loco is moving along the side of a green wall instead of a non-uniform surface... ?
Or, it's a case of negative geometry brought about by the perspective of the track.

A stop along the way
Careful examination suggests it is more like a final dstination, short of the scrapyard, of course...
I love this image, J!Thank you ~ O ~. I just checked my files and do have one with train in motion. However, it is not sharp. We were not allowed tripods and the light levels were very low. I started using the multiple shot technique where one hopes one of the images will be sharp. By then too late, we had moved on. I like Slobodan's explanation where he posted in the Abstract thread, that our vision for what we see and photograph is an iterative process. Start with something then hone in on what really interests us. This is the way I work, in fact.
(Although coming from you i would have expected the train in motion...)
And a stop at the end of the day.I really like Larry's image of the train depot. So old world, so rustic and nostalgic. In general, I like most of the bw work I see here. Some of the high contrast scenes, vignetting and sense of motion techniques, such as in double-cross, I really like. I will have to try some of this. Well done.

Rob, my thanks, and also that of the blonde.
She was of course lovely and still is, so that's a question I've been asking myself for the 50 years we've been together. It also helps explain why you get on so well in Greece: it's obviously she with whom they all want to be friends; you're just the pesky guy who's always there and keeps dragging her away from conversations because you want to photograph things!
I jest - I hope!
On one thing I jest not: if you are fortunate to have a love of your life from so young, as did I, too, that person becomes totally irreplaceable. I pray you take it on trust and never have to find out the hard way.

Thank you for the kind comment. What's the secret in putting three images horizontally in a post?
That's more work than I thought...
Thank you Slobodan,
I'm using Windows computer, so instead of Preview I downloaded (supposedly equivalent) program SEER, but it worked only for one image. Couldn't display three images in a row.
Actually, it's kind of scary... ;-)
Oscar, I find the conversation above even more scary. ;)
If you don’t want to fire up PS (it takes time to start), I often display all three next to each other (e.g., using Preview on Mac) then take a screenshot.
I have put both LR and PS in my auto-start folder. Then when I turn the system on in the morning and go make a coffee, they are up and running when I get back.
For screenshots on windows 10, the built-in Snipping Tool is the best/easiest way to do it with nothing extra to install. If you click on the start menu and start typing snip it should appear in the list. I made a shortcut on my taskbar because I use it a lot with my software job and it's nice to have handy.
(Edit, Photo deleted, I got beat by Matt)
I've never seen grapes grow that way, like a roof. How American! Maybe it's a way of letting Santa Ana's wind flow harmlessly beneath; a new horticultural/vinicultural aerodynamic.
This makes me think of the dreadful events in California, a real tierra del fuego. Was this fire thing always a hazard there, and if so, how come planning permission allowed so much development in what must, clearly, always have been going to be in harm's way?

Leading lines - for vines leading to a lakeThis is same location and farmhouse Les. Fourth from the bottom image:
Now you mention it in the domestic sense, perhaps I do remember seeing similar here in the Baleares, but can't think where, exactly. I know that many houses have a sort of framework over the patios where things grow, often just some kind of long trailer flowers like bougainvillea. I am thinking more in terms of the professional growers, which I imagine must be the scene in the photograph. All the commercial fields I know here are like the French: rows and rows of grape growing vertically. These look grim in winter when all you see are standing twigs.

I think skating should be confined to a rink.
Every winter there are reports of people, usually kids, who sneak out onto lakes and park ponds and vanish below the ice. Even one life lost that way is one too many. Take a picture instead.
We lost one LuLander to the ice some years ago. Can't remember his name, but that doesn't make it any less a tragedy.
;-(
Well that is very sad but this is what we do. People die lots of ways but we need to live our lives too. I try to find balance.
People who die doing this are typically doing it wrong and without the proper safety gear and knowledge. Tragic but very preventable.
Indeed. I wouldn't mind betting that repeatedly sitting in front of a computer screen has killed more folk than has falling through ice.

Ok, tree and clouds:

You guys are just trying to make the rest of envious. It was in fact a series of infrared bw images that first lured me into photography in a serious way. They were fantastic, another world, so surreal and so well done. They appeared in Globe and Mail, a national newspaper of Canada. Alas, at the time, I had neither the money nor the time to pursue bw photography. Sigh.
Truly good photograph, Eric; I sometimes wish I could adapt to that genre of work, but never could. Simplicity is always a powerful tool, and mood its empowering accomplice, as you clearly understand. Black and white is also, for me, far more attractive than colour landscape which just looks pretty or even pretty-pretty, which is probably yet more distressing to me as it becomes more pleasing to the shooter.
Who could have imagined that photography could lead to so many camps of bias and love and dislike?

It's worth noting that HC-B thought of himself as a surrealist; I don't know how he'd have reacted to infrared, though who knows - maybe he dabbled in secret?Rob, interesting that bit of info. To be clear, the image I remember was was not a landscape. It was urban, modern, futuristic looking. Look at the attached image: the background was similar but included the whole city hall and square, and some passersby. A businessman was walking by. He was up close and dominated the scene, looking very smart and wearing a dark suit. His attache case and arm were swinging in tandem with his business like stride. He exuded the look of an ultramodern businessman, and looked for all the world to be striding into the future and taking everyone with him. All in a glorious high contrast style that glowed with infrared qualities that only film can do. The background architecture really made it look futuristic. I guess I was impressed.
:-)
I don't recall a moment where my interest in photography started, I guess its something that has slowly built up over time. I imagine that's part of why I like to photograph a bit of everything. I enjoy b&w imagery, but have alway been most strongly drawn to cool colour palettes, and love the mix of dark blues against whites, like a beautiful Lawren Harris painting of Northern Canadian Landscapes.Very nice Mike (Schertz). Here's some B&W fire...That is really fine, Eric. I don't think I have seen that one before. It certainly does look like flames rising ever higher. But it also reminds me of dark rolling thunderhead clouds, and the first part of Beethoven's Pastoral symphony where everything builds up and threatens, but then quickly subsides. Just wonderful.

It's only leans right from this one side. All one need do, to see it form the another point of view, is look a little more. If a 180 degree stroll is taken you'll see it is leaning to the left. Then the realization becomes it's the same tree. A lot can be learned by looking at things from different a perspective. And this applies to pictures too!
