So Sidney Powell is one of Giuliani's legal sidekicks. She is the tallish, blondish woman if you look at a photo of yesterday's "press conference". It really wasn't a press conference. I don't know what is was. It was more like a 90 minute telethon of conspiracy theories. Giuliani was his usual unhinged self, as we have come to expect. Powell was a little more low keyed. She kind of seemed in control as she rattled off that the voting machines and accompanying software across the nation were rigged to convert Trump votes to Biden using some mysterious algorithm developed for Hugo Chavez, a s Venezuelan dictator from years back, and that the votes changed left no evidence behind, which is kind of convenient, and may explain why we haven't seen any evidence. She also said there were Trump votes on a server in Germany being guarded by the military, and the whole thing was being financed by Venezuela, Cuba, and probably China. She is also a novelist which may explain a lot. As best I can tell, she doesn't work in a law firm; she's solo. Her bio says she "consults" on complex litigation. Obviously, you can't actually conduct complex litigation if you don't have an army of lawyers working with you; but you can certainly consult all by yourself.
Giuliani is also solo. He used to be in a law firm, but was asked to leave for some indiscretion or conflict of interest I no longer remember. Instead of a law firm, he has a consulting and security firm instead. Jenna Ellis is another female attorney on Team Trump. She also appears to be solo, and is currently "senior legal advisor" to the Trump 2020 campaign. Her bio said she is a "former" criminal prosecutor. She was an assistant district attorney in Colorado for a year. She too is an author, but I think she just authors articles for Fox News and the Washington Examiner. That is the right wing media outlet owned by the Moonies. She is also an on-air legal analyst for who else but Fox News. In a CNN interview last Sunday, Brian Stelter made her look like a fool. When a cable news guy massacres a lawyer, it doesn't reflect well on the lawyer's persuasive abilities. I mean if you can't convince a cable news guy that you've got a great case, how are you going to convince a judge. The other two attorneys on Trump's "elite strike force" are the husband and wife team of Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing. They are all but solo. Their law firm includes one other attorney, who you never hear from. This dynamic duo appears frequently on Fox News and, as best as I can remember, were involved in some capacity early on in the Trump 2016 campaign and first year or so of his administration, most likely as a counterpoint to the Meuller investigation. It is hard to keep up and that seems like ages ago.
I go through all this just to give you an idea of who is on Trump's dream team. The thing is, if you look at each individual's resume, they all look like experienced attorneys with excellent credentials. Then you notice they are all practicing solo, they all appear frequently on Fox News, and they all sound like right wing nut jobs spinning conspiracy theories at a press conference about Trump's legal strategy to overturn the election. And for the life of me, I can't figure out whose doing all the legal work - legal research, pleadings, motions, affidavits, exhibits, briefs, appeals. Something doesn't feel right here. Are all the lawyers just winging it?
But of course it could all be true. We've got about three weeks before the electoral college meets, and we'll just have to see how everything pans out.
