For myself, I think that I increasingly find abstract paintings appealing. Why? Simply because they allow one to see something different almost all the time: they don't bore one, as would looking at the Mona Lisa ten times a day.
This part nails it for me, Rob. A good abstract image invites my mind to explore it with my own imagination, not bound by what I'm "supposed" to see or feel.

The essay that Slobodan provided a link to buries the essential notion in a lot of excess verbiage.

I can't make up my mind. Is the writer of that essay a
Quote
windy, pompous gasbag
, or a
Quote
bloviating old fart
? Or both?

All these comments remind me of the song, "Hurt so bad". When I thought it was all so good.

Most of my multi-exposure images do not turn out well, but I keep trying because I really like the look of the end result when it does turn out well.

Time for less talk (from me) and more images. I may have shown one of them before.

This is going to be a dangerous post that may upset many; so, if you're easily upsettable, read no further.

Eric, the first one reminds me of the little Dutch boy who saved everybody by sticking his finger into a dyke.

It may be a myth for people with little experience with dykes, but it is getting older all the time.

The wall is certainly at war with flatness.  It's my favorite.

How could I pass up reading a post with a come-on like that, Rob?

Actually, my response is that now I'm tempted to photograph my thumb and make a composite with my thumb stuck in the pipe hole.   :D

Eric the third image looks familiar. One of your early posts? I really like the last image and the tinges of blue throughout.

Thanks, John.
The third one I may well have shown before, but probably in B&W if I did.
The last one is a window air conditioner that I saw walking in New York a couple of years ago.

Cool trick! Did you engage it in conversation?

;-)   ;-)    ;-)  Just a joke - not being a pedant - honest!

The Toronto city Hall has a decidedly abstract shape. Love to photograph it. The immediate lighted areas kind of made it difficult to see what was in the night sky, so the blue sky that seemed to float by and surround the the city hall was a bonus.

Chris you should look up a song by Gordon Lightfoot called, appropriately enough, "Spanish Moss."

This one is not moss:

It's Queen Anne's Lace, a member of the wild carrot family.

Although a weed, some people do grow it in the garden. In July the crown does look lovely and has a fringe of pink.

Thanks John - noted that down now!

Does it have an edible root, or is the carrot connection too vague? However, that's probably going to be academic now, as the entire field has become a fresh forest of pines and wild oak. The maquis part is so thick it is pretty much impassable now, and I doubt much can grow through that cover.

Yes Rob it is edible but inadvisable. According to Wikipedia, it is kind of woody and not very good. You must be homesick or nostalgic for the flowers you saw back home. I tried to find some in my files but have only this one which is a double exposure.
