Before Russia attacked Ukraine, Biden winked at Russia and said he could live with a little land theft. He was forced to walk back that comment as the world objected including those in his own party. But it was too late. Russia attacked probably feeling more secure that America would do nothing or not enough.
It was Europe that turned out to be strong and led the way, actually very surprising to me. Biden got on board when he saw European strength and the train pulling out of the station. He has supported Ukraine strongly afterward, I agree. But he was not the leader you think he was. He went along.
As an aside, Biden approved the gas pipeline from Russia which all previous presidents opposed. They knew that it could be used to blackmail Germany and Europe just as Russia is doing now. So Biden got that wrong too.
