We wound up with low flow showerheads and low flush toilets that always get stuffed up, another problem foisted on us by stupid politicians that is still in force today.
Trump said that too. It's not a low flow issue, it's being so full of sh$t that's the issue. 💩

Old privileged white guys complaining about low flow toilets should be forced to watch this which takes place in their own country:

Wait, aren't there offshore oil and gas rigs now? Is it any harder to fly a helicopter to those than to windmills?
According to the “dear leader*”, less cancer flying and working there? 😛

Low flow a problem indeed.

Thanks.  Fortunately, here on the East coast, we have our own reservoirs and rivers and don't have water supply issues for the most part.

Yah.  To hell with all those guys on the other side of the continent.  We're good here.

Oh, wait...  How come we can no longer buy fresh lettuce in February?

This is going to make some people here gag after refusing to give Trump any praise at all for Operation Warp Speed.

Biden praises Trump for Operation Warp Speed, getting COVID booster shot
https://nypost.com/2021/12/21/biden-praises-trump-for-operation-warp-speed-getting-covid-booster/

Even Trump. with his vast skill at doing so, could not get everything wrong. And remember that Pfizer, who developed the first effective vaccine, made a public announcement that their vaccine had nothing whatsoever to do with Warp Speed.

This New Mexican is happy:
Quote
Officials from the Bureau of Land Management on Tuesday announced the approval of two solar energy projects in California and also issued a call for land to be nominated in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada for the development of solar energy projects as the Biden administration attempts to shift to renewable energy.
Further on:
Quote
The approval and call for more projects come as the administration is trying to re-establish connections with the renewable energy industry, many of which were severed under former President Donald Trump, whose administration focused on oil and gas drilling and coal mining.

I already provided a great link that compares energy production costs.  It seems you only want people to read your articles but don't want to return the courtesy.  Here it is again in case you're interested in reading it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_electricity_by_source#Energy_Information_Administration_(2020

And here's a quote from the article you cited: "The consensus of recent major global studies of generation costs is that wind and solar power are the lowest-cost sources of electricity available today."

Is anyone here surprised he didn't actually read the article he cited? This is of course, NOT a rhetorical question and the answer is pretty clear.

You mean because it shows how much cheaper renewable energy is to produce? Not a surprise at all.

Why are you inferring a negative comment on my part? I was trying to point out that we're lucky here on the east coast as we have pretty good water resources.  We have regular precipitation throughout the year unlike much of the west and southwest.  I believe we import some power from Canada but not water.

Even Trump. with his vast skill at doing so, could not get everything wrong. And remember that Pfizer, who developed the first effective vaccine, made a public announcement that their vaccine had nothing whatsoever to do with Warp Speed.
Pfizer did not get development funding.  But they did receive a $1.9 billion dollar advance purchase agreement in July 2020 from Operation Warp Speed
to deliver 100 million doses.  So they were one of Warp Speed's suppliers. This surely inspired them to proceed with the development.  Otherwise, they would have had to cede purchases to Moderna and others and would have been left out in the cold.

In July, Pfizer got a $1.95 billion deal with the government’s Operation Warp Speed, the multiagency effort to rush a vaccine to market, to deliver 100 million doses of the vaccine. The arrangement is an advance-purchase agreement, meaning that the company won’t get paid until they deliver the vaccines. Pfizer did not accept federal funding to help develop or manufacture the vaccine, unlike front-runners Moderna and AstraZeneca.

...Pfizer has distanced itself from Mr. Trump and Operation Warp Speed. In an interview on Sunday, Kathrin Jansen, a senior vice president and the head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer, said, “We were never part of the Warp Speed,” adding, “we have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone.”

...On Monday, a spokeswoman for Pfizer clarified that the company is part of Operation Warp Speed as a supplier of a potential coronavirus vaccine.

Operation Warp Speed was a political marketing label slapped onto the work done by existing federal agencies like BARDA (Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority) which was established in 2006 by Congress and George W. Bush. Rapid development, production, and deployment of vaccines and other medical counter measures is one of the key missions for which BARDA was established.

Thanks George! Thanks for listening to the public health experts that advised you on the need to establish BARDA and other federal agencies to combat emerging threats from pandemic diseases!

Offshore wind as is being built by New York State is much more expensive to build, operate and maintain.  So that statement is only partially true.  Also, that statement does not include other costs. Because wind and solar do not operate all the time when the wind isn't blowing or at night, you have to back up these sources with traditional fossil fuel plants.  You have to add in the supplementary costs of these plants.  These costs were not considered in your quote.

It isn't cheaper.  Germany has proven that.

Nonsense. Nothing would have happened if Trump didn't create Warp Speed to issue pre=purchase agreements in 2020 for hundreds of millions of doses and for billions in payments to cover some pharma companies' design costs.  None of that was covered in 2006.  It's strange that you don't even believe Biden who acknowledged Trump involvement in getting the ball rolling.

Thanks for pointing that out.  Without you telling us, we'd never have known that.

The money for the pre-purchase agreements was appropriated by Congress for BARDA which chose vaccine candidates, allocated the funds, and assisted in every aspect of development, approval, and production. Trump gave it a brand name and took the credit.

Thanks again George for listening and understanding the need for this agency.

Nothing would have happened without the president issuing an order and creating the plan to move it forward.  There were also  suppose to be masks for people and "breathers" for the Covid sick in storage facilities.   All those supplies were not there.  They were used up during previous administrations.  It took Trump to get these things to build quickly and distributed.

Isn;t Biden doing the same thing ordering 500 million testing kits?  The chief executive, the president, has to get these things moving.  It doesn't happen on their own.

The opposite is also true.  If the president doesn't move the process, he gets blamed.  For example, FEMA was in existence before Katrina and Bush.  Yet because FEMA delayed in getting help to New Orleans, Bush was blamed.  He's the president and is responsible for every agency to get the job done.  You can't praise Biden and not Trump for similar things being done.  That's just being biased.

Federal agencies like BARDA do the jobs they were established to do every hour of every day without requiring orders from the president. Their authorizing authority is derived from legislation created in Congress which is where their funding is also derived.

BARDA was established to do a number of jobs in a pandemic and they performed extremely well. Thanks BARDA!

I think you should write to President Biden and tell him he erred when he complimented President Trump for his work on the vaccines.  We wouldn't want Biden to be lying about these things.

A reposting from May 30, 2021 which I wrote in the Promising New Coronavirus Vaccine thread for anyone interested that may have missed it. Lots of links included....

The background story of how and why vaccines like the Nucleoside-modified messenger RNA vaccines from BioNTech and Moderna were able to be developed and produced so quickly, just when we needed them, is interesting. I've been studying the history for awhile and find it fascinating. The speed with which they were able to be delivered to us was not a miracle created in 2020. The speed of vaccine development was due to a foundation of accumulated knowledge and occasional breakthroughs over many years in the lead-up to renewed and intensified interest in mRNA research which has accelerated over the past decade.

The speed of vaccine production was due to the foresight of Congress and President Bush in creating the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority at the end of 2006. BARDA was established under the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act of 2006 thru bipartisan efforts. When COVID-19 arrived, there was no need to develop from scratch an infrastructure across multiple government agencies to coordinate, streamline, and accelerate the evaluation, funding, development, approval, and production of vaccines . That infrastructure already existed in BARDA and The Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE) and they performed extremely well. BARDA provides biomedical manufacturers with a single point of entry into multiple federal government agencies and facilitates the process from proposal, to evaluation, to funding, to authorization, to production and procurement, and provides any needed infrastructure support along the way. BARDA is the agency that has managed the portfolio and provided billions of dollars in funding and assistance to a multitude of manufacturers including vaccines.

Of course, the scientists are the first in line for my gratitude. The institutions and the government officials who created or led them, years prior to the pandemic, enabling vaccine science to advance to its current state are next in line. At the top of that list would be NIAID led by Anthony Fauci, M.D who was instrumental in the establishment and funding of the NIAID Vaccine Research Center and its Viral Pathogenesis Laboratory led by Barney Graham, M.D., Ph.D.. Dr. Barney Graham and his research team headed by Kizzmekia Corbett, PhD along with Jason McLellan, PhD from the University of Texas at Austin engineered the stabilized version of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein which lies at the heart of the immune response generated by the COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech, J&J/Janssen, and Novavax.

Among the scientists making crucial breakthroughs in mRNA vaccine development are Katalin Karikó, PhD and Drew Weissman, MD, PhD at the University of Pennsylvania with research grants from NIAID. Prior to their discoveries published in 2005, mRNA development had stalled as using mRNA was neither safe or effective as a tool for combating human disease. Injecting mRNA created an unwanted inflammatory immunogenic response which was sometimes fatal in experiments with lab animals and which also destroyed the delicate mRNA before it could reach the intended cells. They discovered that by modifying certain nucleosides in mRNA, and creating a method for doing so, effectiveness increased dramatically and regulated the unwanted inflammatory immunogenic response. These modification discoveries and methods are critical in the current mRNA vaccines being used, allowing them to be both safe and effective.
