Since this is a fairly tense moment, I think we all need a distraction, and so I will offer up this interview from the director of the latest Borat movie on what really happened in the hotel bedroom with Rudy Giuliani.
"So you didn’t buy the ‘I was just tucking in my shirt’ excuse?"
"You know, I’ve been doing this for a long time. I’ve seen a lot of people get microphones applied and removed. I’ve never seen anyone have to lie on a bed and put their hands down their pants."

Of course, if you are not interested in the subject of Rudy Giuliani lying on a bed with his hand down his pants, that is perfectly understandable. It is probably a good thing Borat jumped out of the armoire when he did. If he hadn't, no telling what would have happened.
Poor Rudy can't catch a break. He's not that attractive nor interesting, probably doesn't score much at parties. Hell, I never did and I'm better looking than him. He flukes into a babe who is showing interest and can't believe his luck, and the poor guy's failings as a seducer happen to be caught on camera. It's tragic, in that sense. Tragicomic at the very least.
I'll grant you that the hands down the pants is not the classiest move, even I know that. But we don't know what kind of private life he's had. Maybe his past life experiences have taught him that this is how to behave under such circumstances. Maybe this is normal in some circles. Not much would surprise me, takes all kinds, they keep telling me.
You'd think that someone with his experience in public life though would be more on guard. OTOH, maybe the guy was crazy horny. He probably doesn't get hit on that often. Funny scene though.
The allure of the power of public office must be irresistible for the right personality type. How else can you explain that people still seek public office in this day and age, when all of your personal foibles are public fodder? Myself, I don't regard it as any of my business who my mayor or my prime minister has sex with. I am not really sure I understand why it's even a matter of public curiosity. This is not strictly an American phenomenon, but I am exposed to it in the American context most probably because of what news media I am exposed to.
I am pretty sick of those press conferences where some errant politician, usually a male one, stands at a microphone and apologizes to the public and to his wife who is dutifully standing beside him undergoing what is probably highly humiliating. Why apologize to the public, what damn business is it of theirs who he goes to bed with? Do you vote for someone based on who they score with? That never occurs to me. Why apologize to voters, it's ridiculous. And if he wants to apologize to his wife, ffs, do it in private. The entire ritual is a staged media show, some kind of required contrition that is believed to provide the best chance of re-election, I assume, which seems to be priority No. 1. Why the wives put up with the crap is beyond me. Must be a lot money involved or they like the power too.
Read back in history and it never occurred to kings and princes and popes to be chaste. Does anyone actually believe in the white picket fence myth anymore? Porn is a multi-billion dollar industry in the USA alone. Who do we think we're fooling?
