Since this is a fairly tense moment, I think we all need a distraction, and so I will offer up this interview from the director of the latest Borat movie on what really happened in the hotel bedroom with Rudy Giuliani.

"So you didn’t buy the ‘I was just tucking in my shirt’ excuse?"

"You know, I’ve been doing this for a long time. I’ve seen a lot of people get microphones applied and removed. I’ve never seen anyone have to lie on a bed and put their hands down their pants."

‘Borat 2’ Director Reveals What Really Happened With Rudy Giuliani: ‘My Jaw Hit the Floor’

https://www.thedailybeast.com/borat-2-director-jason-woliner-reveals-what-really-happened-with-rudy-giuliani

Of course, if you are not interested in the subject of Rudy Giuliani lying on a bed with his hand down his pants, that is perfectly understandable.  It is probably a good thing Borat jumped out of the armoire when he did. If he hadn't, no telling what would have happened.

Poor Rudy can't catch a break. He's not that attractive nor interesting, probably doesn't score much at parties. Hell, I never did and I'm better looking than him. He flukes into a babe who is showing interest and can't believe his luck, and the poor guy's failings as a seducer happen to be caught on camera. It's tragic, in that sense. Tragicomic at the very least.

I'll grant you that the hands down the pants is not the classiest move, even I know that. But we don't know what kind of private life he's had. Maybe his past life experiences have taught him that this is how to behave under such circumstances. Maybe this is normal in some circles. Not much would surprise me, takes all kinds, they keep telling me.

You'd think that someone with his experience in public life though would be more on guard. OTOH, maybe the guy was crazy horny. He probably doesn't get hit on that often. Funny scene though.

The allure of the power of public office must be irresistible for the right personality type. How else can you explain that people still seek public office in this day and age, when all of your personal foibles are public fodder? Myself, I don't regard it as any of my business who my mayor or my prime minister has sex with. I am not really sure I understand why it's even a matter of public curiosity. This is not strictly an American phenomenon, but I am exposed to it in the American context most probably because of what news media I am exposed to.

I am pretty sick of those press conferences where some errant politician, usually a male one, stands at a microphone and apologizes to the public and to his wife who is dutifully standing beside him undergoing what is probably highly humiliating. Why apologize to the public, what damn business is it of theirs who he goes to bed with? Do you vote for someone based on who they score with? That never occurs to me. Why apologize to voters, it's ridiculous. And if he wants to apologize to his wife, ffs, do it in private. The entire ritual is a staged media show, some kind of required contrition that is believed to provide the best chance of re-election, I assume, which seems to be priority No. 1. Why the wives put up with the crap is beyond me. Must be a lot money involved or they like the power too.

Read back in history and it never occurred to kings and princes and popes to be chaste. Does anyone actually believe in the white picket fence myth anymore? Porn is a multi-billion dollar industry in the USA alone. Who do we think we're fooling?

French fishermen aren't dumb - they just blockade the harbour.  Besides, we can't afford the bullets.
You mean, you didn't pay us for the jets?

Well, we had four years of experience of that with democrats and others who didn't accept Trump and used extra-legal means to get rid of him.

Perhaps you could quickly summarize the extra-legal means used to get rid of Trump. Bullets points would be fine.

Biden bribing the voters.

"By electing Jon and the Reverend you can make an immediate difference in your own lives, the lives of people all across this country because their election will put an end to the block in Washington on that $2,000 stimulus check, that money that will go out the door immediately to people who are in real trouble."

Presumably Georgia voters in the Senate run-off election today.

I think most of the money flows to Porn Hub headquarters in Montreal, though the flow may be reduced since they were pressured to dump the child porn and rape videos.

Possibly so, but Porn Hub isn't the only player and there was porn for a long time before Porn Hub. I was blown away years ago when I heard how large the market was for those neighbourhood Adult Video stores. What I had noticed was how ubiquitous they were.

I grew up in Montreal, things were always different there. When I was in my early teens, back in the late 1970s, you could regularly see nudity on French language TV and hear awful cuss words that got bleeped on English language TV. Just one of the odd things of life in Quebec that you got used to.

I recently watched Season 1 of American Crime that I purchased on iTunes. The version had lots of words bleeped out, swear words that I hear everyday in the street or on other programs. The version seemed to be an ABC broadcast version. Seems odd that they feel the need to bleep out words like "shit" in this day and age.

How weird is this. A pharmacist destroys some Covid vaccine vials, https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/pharmacist-allegedly-ruins-covid-19-vaccine-doses-dna_n_5ff42e01c5b6e7974fd610b6. An anti-vaxxer pharmacist! I wonder how he justifies to himself selling any drugs.

But life is full of inconsistencies. Some people claim that masks are not useful, but I wonder how they'd react to their surgeon not wearing one. I've joked a time or too how I'd like to see a Venn diagram showing anti-vaxxers and people who use illegal drugs; the intersection of those two groups would be an interesting subset of humanity, people who don't trust drugs from the medical industry but are happy to buy drugs from criminal cartels. John Prine said it best, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZACwVOJXpn0.

You really can't assign rational explanations to the thoughts and actions of irrational people. We see that here all the time.

As an aside, I recommend the movie The Honest Liar about The Amazing Randi, if you can find it. There's a really interesting bit where he publicly exposes the faith healer Peter Popoff as a scammer, but instead of Popoff's business tanking, he simply moved on to other cons, selling Holy Land spring water or something. Randi had exposed the fact that Randi was using radio transmissions from his wife in his healing ceremonies instead of hearing god's voice.

Btw, as a further aside, have any faith healers ever been charged/indicted for fraud? Shouldn't authorities be going after them with at least as much zeal as they go after whistle blowers or people taking drugs or black guys driving. I mean, convincing someone with cancer that they are healed and they need no longer see their doctor would be a pretty bad thing to do to someone.

Btw, did you ever watch Citizen X?

Is that bribing or telling voters what could be at stake?
I would think a bribe is receiving something in exchange for a vote. This is more like informing the voters that if the dems win, things could get better for people who need that assistance.

Was Trump's promise to build that wall and make Mexico pay for it a bribe?

Or his promises to cut taxes?

I don't think so.

I watched it all the way through. Wasn't the best movie I've seen, though it was okay.

Of course there is no racism in America. I guess it is "playing the race card" to condemn this behavior.

Is this what is referred to as "cancel culture"? I thought Republicans were against this type of behavior.

This may not be a very good long-term strategy since Trump eventually turns on everyone.

Yes, I understand it's the left side behind the wing.

The UK was and is a principal partner in the design, development, and manufacture of the F-35. British design and manufacture are found throughout the aircraft and its systems. A particularly large player in F-35 design and manufacture is the huge international British defense manufacturer BAE Systems which has over 35,000 of its 88,000+ employees in the United States. BAE Systems supplies, among other things, the F-35 electronic warfare suite and flight control systems.

Another blatantly false assertion in an ongoing series too long to list.
