I think the point was the hundreds of mourners at the funeral, not that the dead guy was 90, but maybe I missed something.

Perhaps you missed (or not) that he died "from" Covid, though I would say "with" Covid. At that age, a seasonal flu or some other infection would have finished him just as well.

You are correct, however, that the point is in the thousands, if not tens of thousands people passing by the coffin, many of which were kissing it, and then going through the religious ritual of eucharist (I think that is the right translation), where the same spoon is used for everyone.

The irony is that he apparently contracted the virus twenty days earlier in Montenegro, attending a funeral of another church dignitary, who also died from complications related to an earlier Covid infection. Open-casket, no-masks, no social-distancing funeral in Montenegro.

Having said that, I went to a funeral in March, literally 2-3 days before getting sick with Covid. That was a private, yet huge funeral, the chapel filled with perhaps 500 people. The family was greeting every one of the attendees, often kissing each other (three times)... we were standing for about an hour shoulder to shoulder, crying at times, and blowing our noses. No one in my vicinity got sick. Some family members experienced mild to moderate cold symptoms afterwards. The point being, it is not that easy to get infected, even in the so-called super-spreader events. More like the luck of the draw.

In the same 2-3 day before getting seriously sick with Covid, I had a 2-hour lunch with my 90-year old friend, and she drove me after lunch to my place (i.e., closed, non-ventilated car space). And I had a 1-2 hour breakfast with my 68-year old friend in my studio apartment (again, rather small, non-ventilated closed space. None of the two got sick.

... I've come to expect nothing more from Slobo with his attempt at "shock postings".

You mean "nothing less"?

My point about 90-year olds is not, of course, that they "deserve" to die, but that at that age, there are many factors that would cause death, often listed just as "natural causes" or "old age."

In my state, you have to request an absentee ballot....

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

In my state (Florida), one also has to request a ballot. Since I sent my ballot by fax, I voluntarily forfeited my right to privacy (and I signed off on that).

I see your point that re-validation of signatures is meaningless. That means that stage (signature verification) must be closely monitored by representatives of both parties. I believe that was the case anyway.

The weak spot appear to be the stage with secrecy envelopes, once the ballots are divorced from the identity of the sender. This is the stage where thousands or tens of thousands of ballots could be "suddenly" discovered at 4am. That stage in must be also closely monitored by each party.

Would it be possible to sneak in those boxes without Republican monitors noticing it? Could they be distracted while doing so? Or counting on them being "never-Trumpers" and willingly participating? All possible, while highly unlikely. Especially doing it on a large, coordinated scale in several key states. Possible, but highly unlikely.

I thought he meant "nothing more". Seems to fit.

I tried finding a definition of "nothing more from" and couldn't.

But if there is any meaning to that, it sounds like a challenge to me to outdo myself next time ;)

Well, you could check the number of signature verifications with the number of ballots. If you had 1,000 signature verifications, and 2,000 ballots, you might have a problem. Or if you sent out 1,000 ballots and you got 2,000 back. I don't think sneaking in ballots has been the subject of any of the lawsuits. I did hear of one affidavit where someone said they saw a white van pull up and unload some stuff at a counting center late at night, but they couldn't say what it was that was unloaded. Could have been Uber Eats. Trump lawyers did allege that there were more votes than people in some counties, but they screwed up and compared county votes in one state with county populations in another state. Oops.

It is what my wife might say about my usual lousy job of folding clothes, for example. She would say she expects nothing more from me. On the other hand, in the situation where she thinks I usually do a good job (I can't think of anything off hand), she would say she expects nothing less from me.

Whatever happened to that guy that posted "I don't think you want me to get on the topic of politics since you couldn't handle that." and "You couldn't handle it; don't be a masochist!"? I was looking forward to seeing some remarkably robust political debating skills and all that I've seen, so far, is an empty suit serving up some weak tea.

Like all bullies, when effectively challenged they cower, retreat and disappear into the woodwork from whence they came.

Note that the phrase defined at the above link above is “nothing more THAN” not FROM.

Note that the phrase defined at the above link above is “nothing more THAN” not FROM.

Let me rephrase my example for clarity:

It is what my wife might say about my usual lousy job of folding clothes, for example. She would say she expects nothing more than that from me. On the other hand, in the situation where she thinks I usually do a good job (I can't think of anything off hand), she would say she expects nothing less than that from me.

You could also be verbose and say:

It is what my wife might say about my usual lousy job of folding clothes, for example. She would say she expects nothing more than my usual lousy job from me. On the other hand, in the situation where she thinks I usually do a good job (I can't think of anything off hand), she would say she expects nothing less than my usual great job from me.

I think the words "than that" or "than my usual lousy job" are optional, as in my original example, when the context otherwise supplies them, but you may feel differently.

You are, of course, free to use or misuse, or interpret or misinterpret, any phrase in any manner you desire.

Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey, is an on again, off again supporter of Donald Trump. He is currently off again, probably because Trump may have given him COVID during debate prep. Anyway, here is what he has to say today about Trump's "elite strike force" legal team:

Chris Christie calls the conduct of Trump’s legal team a ‘national embarrassment’

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/republicans-christie-trump-concede/2020/11/22/05c280e6-2cda-11eb-bae0-50bb17126614_story.html

When I hear "elite strike force", I think of Jimmy Carter's disaster in the desert, when army helicopters crashed into each other at the staging area for an aborted rescue mission to recover the hostages being held by Iran. Eight solders were killed. Not the nation's finest hour.

Weird that. You'd think rich guy CEOs could find better lawyers.

Another brilliant performance from Jenna Ellis, a member of Team Trump's "elite strike force" of lawyers:

I saw a headline on either TheHill or Politico that Trump vowed to appeal that decision, so maybe that's she meant. Or maybe she was confused. Or maybe they're all blowing smoke and it's all a way to suck more donations for the cause. Could be any of those reasons. It was all a bit funny at first, fun to poke fun at I mean, but now it's just more dumb crap every day.

If Jenna Ellis thinks the case is "promising" and the judge thinks she and her cohorts provided “strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations” that were “unsupported by evidence”, you know what weight to give Jenna Ellis's comments in the future. Again, an actress on the stage performing for an audience of one.

They will of course appeal the decision to the Third Circuit, and from there to the Supreme Court. They will be unsuccessful in both venues. The Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court will not second guess the tryer of facts', in this case Judge Brann's, finding that the arguments were "unsupported by evidence".

They are going to have to go with Sidney Powell's international conspiracy theory in a new case. They've got nothing else. Except getting Republican legislators to elect alternate slates of pro-Trump electors.

Meanwhile, in the UK, scholars have announced that Henry VIII had a seventh wife all lined up, but died before the marriage could take place.

I don't find myself in agreement with Chris Christie all that often but I can't disagree that what the president is doing is a "national embarrassment".

It's similar to Trump's tweets.
For example, when it comes to his regular tweet postings, we expect nothing less, meaning that there will be always something new in the headlines next day.
Once you read those tweets, want to scream and shake your head, you realize that we can't expect nothing more from him.
