Meanwhile in El Paso:

The National Guard has been deployed to El Paso to provide support with the morgue crisis

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/the-national-guard-has-been-deployed-to-el-paso-to-provide-support-with-the-morgue-crisis/ar-BB1beN5k

It's a disgrace for a modern nation. It's a sign of moral bankruptcy.

Ok, you all foreign jealous haters, answer this: if it is Trump's fault, how come you all experience the same spike, Europe, Canada, etc.?

Just one example:

https://www.foxnews.com/world/ontario-toronto-peel-region-lockdown-28-days

"Canada places largest city under 'lockdown' for at least 28 days amid coronavirus spikes
The Ontario province has seen over 1,400 cases in the past 24 hours"

And the forecast calls for snow today too. Can't blame that on Trump.  ;)

It's a disgrace for a modern nation. It's a sign of moral bankruptcy.

Why!? People die. It is a natural occurrence. Very infectious, but low mortality. Hard to prevent, easy only to postpone and prolong the misery. As a citizen of the USA, you have a 99.96 percent chance to survive. As a citizen of Serbia, it is 99.99% America (and the UK and other rich nations) is paying the price for its obesity epidemic, as it is #1 predictor of how fast the virus will spread and kill.

And if you all foreign jealous haters are so smart in handling it so far, why the spike now?

We've been through all this several times already. Just stay calm and carry on.

Just saw this, they might recount Georgia again! https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/527051-trump-campaign-files-for-new-recount-in-georgia. I hope the ballots can withstand all the handling.

I was looking at the photo at the top of this story, https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/22/parler-maga-election-echo-chamber-439056.

Does anyone know if there is any special significance to that twisty metal contraption that the fellow at the very back is holding up? At first glance I thought it was deer antlers but I think it's metallic. Does it mean anything or might it be some random junk the guy picked up?

I hope it's just the camera angle but I'd be nervous standing in front of the guy with the rifle. Also, that guy is holding his thumb and forefinger in a circle, is that meant to be a "Q" for QAnon?

I am not sure what the recount does. If it only takes a ballot and checks whether the vote is for one or the other candidate, than the recount is mostly useless. If, however, it validates the ballot, then it makes sense. That is, checks if the voter is a registered voter, if the signature is the same as in the file,* if it was sent and arrived on time, etc.

Obama surely knew how to validate votes (when he ran in a primary for a Congressional seat):

Quote
Obama team challenged every single one of his petitions on "technicalities."

If names were printed instead of signed in cursive writing, they were declared invalid. If signatures were good but the person gathering the signatures wasn't properly registered, those petitions also were thrown out.

Askia [Obama's opponent] came up 69 signatures short of the required number to be on the ballot.

Duh, death is a natural occurrence.

But excess mortality is not normal. And the scale of excess mortality, partly avoidable, is certainly not normal.

Quote
Very infectious, but low mortality.

Tell that to the families of the 255,909 (at the time of writing) Covid-19 deaths in the U.S.A.
And it also makes victims in other ways, for example by reducing people's health/productivity for the rest of their lives, or by making it impossible for other elective procedures to take place.

Quote
Hard to prevent, easy only to postpone and prolong the misery.

???

It is not difficult to prevent, but most of us are not willing to bear the consequences of its complete prevention. Hence the need to keep the pandemic under control, by buying some time and reducing the pressure on hospitals until there is a vaccine or drug. Not controlling it borders on criminal behavior.

(For those unfamiliar, The Beaverton is a Canadian satirical site.)

Attempted "coup" is ridiculed https://www.thebeaverton.com/2020/11/attempted-coup-in-global-superpower-much-goofier-than-expected/.

Like everything else in Canada, it is far inferior to its American inspiration (e.g., The Babylon Bee). Hence the jealousy and hatred.

Comparing sources of infections (see attached graph from Ontario) indicates Close Contact / Community Spread as the main sources for the recent spike.
Most probably too many dummies, not practicing social distancing. Let's hope that the new lockdown (so far, only in two Ontario municipalities) will reduce the virus spread.

There is a discrepancy between various statistical sources.
For example, CNN stats - 255.9K US deaths, CDC stats (253.6K US deaths) and https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/  (261K US deaths). Which site is correct?

Most likely due to relaxing distancing measures combined with new term at school and university.

Probably all and none - depending on their definition of a COVID death. Ultimately it’s like the Georgia recount - a few votes here or there don’t change the result !

Actually, all these numbers are undercounted. The real count is even higher.
