Remind us what happened to those cops ( assume it’s the Tony Timpa case you’re referring to)

They stood trial. The judge throw out the case. Rightfully. Because it was an unfortunate accident, coupled with a drug use.

There you go! Not by the police!

Now, go back how you characterized the event originally - 1. attributing it to the police 2. presenting it as if he was shot simply while jogging - which is not true - he was shot as he decided to engage in a fist fight with a guy with a gun - never a smart idea. He could have waited for police to arrive, and then press charges against the two for unlawful arrest.

As for the criminal Floyd... your initial characterization is false on several grounds: 1. the other three policemen, who you say were "happily" watching, are what you call "people of color" or minorities themselves 2.  they didn't intervene as their colleague was applying a standard police technique they learned in the police academy to subdue an unruly arrestee. 3. your assertion that what happened could have been prevented "if only the four just arrested him and took to the police station" is equally false - in reality, the reason he was under restraint was that, upon arrest and being cuffed, he refused to get into the police car, claiming claustrophobia, then became unruly. And that was not about racism - a white man died under almost identical circumstances about five years ago in Dallas. But of course, it is not a news when a white man dies, nor a reason to burn down cities. Both cases were unfortunate accidents, without premeditation. Stuff happens. And when stuff happens, even accidentally, those responsible will still stand trial.

Those descriptions of events are certainly one way to characterize what happened. I have read other characterizations. Some resemble Slobodan's and some resemble Peiter's. We'll see what happens at trial.

Some resemblance of a balanced reasoning (in this thread)  ;)

Not really much reasoning involved. More competing statements of "facts".

Exactly. Really inspires confidence in the police and the legal process.

Quote
Tony Timpa, 32, died in August 2016 as he was restrained by three police officers in a Dallas parking lot. Timpa had called 911 to say he had come off his medication for schizophrenia and depression and needed help.

In the bodycam video, finally obtained by the Dallas Morning News, Timpa, who had been handcuffed by store security guards, is pinned to the ground in a prone position with a knee on his back as he pleads with police to release him.

“You’re going to kill me!” Timpa shouts repeatedly.

The three officers laugh and joke as they restrain Timpa on the ground. One officer mocks Timpa as a “roly-poly”. As he becomes unresponsive, with his face in the grass, the officers joke that he has fallen asleep. When Timpa finally stops moving, the trio continue their mockery.

“Back to school! Come on, wake up!” one officer says.

Another, mimicking a teenager, says: “I don’t want to go to school! Five more minutes, Mom!”

Only after an ambulance arrives do officers show concern. “I hope I didn’t kill him,” one says.

In the ambulance, a paramedic tells the officers Timpa is not breathing. Another paramedic points at Timpa and says: “He’s dead.”

If someone has issues with that, talk to the legislators. It is not a police issue, nor judicial. Laws are made by legislators, and police is there to enforce them, and judges to apply them.

Apparelly* AOC is quite familiar with a capitalist way of making money. One would expect these to be free (or p&h only):

* (intentional misspelling, settle down)

P.S. Since for the lefties everything is racist, why not drinking water?

Many of these cases are often liability cases, and not criminal.  A cop over-reacts in a dangerous situation, but not out of criminal intent.  So the injured party or his family sues and collects monetary damages.  Of course where there was criminal intent, then the situation is different.  But we have to be careful where we draw the line.  We want responsible police.  But they have a right to be protected when they're putting their lives on the line.

What percentage of the folks firing tear gas were black/Muslim/communists/homosexuals/whoever you’re hating on this time around?
Meanwhile: The FBI report at 7314 hate crimes in 2019 the highest number since 2008 - the actual number is probably much higher, given that only 2200 police jurisdictions out of 15,000 nationwide report data to the FBI. Anti-Semitic hate crimes numbered 953 a 14% increase over the previous year.

It seems you have your own George Floyd incidents in Belgium too, Nazi salutes and laughing by police in addition to just beating up the guy.  Are you opposed to whataboutism when it describes police savagery in your country?

Outrage in Belgium after video reveals George Floyd-style police savagery

Yep there are racist imbeciles all over, but unless I'm mistaken racist cops in Belgium don't have much influence on the BLM protests in the US and hence the US election, so your finger-pointing is irrelevant.

It has nothing to do with the election.  I'm suggesting to our non-American friends here that they should look inward and clean up their own act before castigating America with their holier-than-thou attitudes.

Alan's response is the essence of whataboutism.

"Whataboutism, also known as whataboutery, is a variant of the tu quoque logical fallacy that attempts to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving their argument."

It is a subterfuge to change the subject away from something he does not want to talk about.

Not to mention that "castigating" is a gross overstatement and no one expressed a "holier-than-thou attitude".

So overall a failing grade.

There may be areas for improvement in the police disciplinary process and the criminal justice system that require remedies other than more legislation.

It seems most Republicans have not admitted that Biden won the election and moved on. Presumably, they are not really in denial but don't want to be on the receiving end of the Kemp/Raffensperger treatment from Trump. What a bunch of wusses.

"Just 26 congressional Republicans acknowledge Joe Biden’s win over President Trump a month after the former vice president’s clear victory of more than 7 million votes nationally and a convincing electoral-vote margin that exactly matched Trump’s 2016 tally."

"Two Republicans consider Trump the winner despite all evidence showing otherwise. And another 221 GOP members of the House and Senate — nearly 90 percent of all Republicans serving in Congress — will simply not say who won the election."

And outlawing the phrase Merry Christmas... or Christmas entirely! That is... were it not for some of the great crusaders that protect us from such things in conservative media.

When satire becomes reality...

What will he cancel next?

Why is Trump going to Valdosta, Georgia, a small town in Southern Georgia with a population of just 56,457 for a rally to promote the two Republican Senate candidates? Doesn't sound like much of a bang for the buck kind of place to go.

Thanks goes to former Trump Elite Lawyer Team member and Kraken Releaser Sidney Powell for providing more good laughs in her court filings.

In her Georgia lawsuit Ms. Powell's filing said...

"machine-controlled algorithms deliberately run by Dominion Voting Systems that generally took more than 2.5% of the votes from Mr. Biden and flipped them to Mr. Trump

https://lawandcrime.com/2020-election/sidney-powells-georgia-kraken-filing-began-by-saying-dominion-flipped-votes-from-biden-to-trump

I guess it's hard to concentrate on writing your court submissions when you have a Kraken running around loose in your office!

I saw yesterday that she filed an amended pleading to fix that. I don't know if she corrected everything or just that section. Time is ticking along. Nine more days until the electoral college meets.

I'm sure Trump's lawyers have their next moves all mapped out. Bwahahaha...
