The appeals can start after sentencing on July 11th. That will not change the fact that Mr. Trump is the first US president to be convicted as a felon.
When the Documents case goes to court, he will certainly end up in prison.

I watched the first 2-3 minutes of that post-trial Trump rant. Who is pulling the strings on that puppet? All that comes out of his mouth is incoherent demented nonsense. It reminds me of the many people who tried to get traction out of Biden's advancing years. There's something to that, Biden is old, but Trump is babbling most of the time. I'm not condemning him for that, if you're old, you're old, but it makes me cringe to watch. Who can watch that and vote for the guy? The Secret Service should be doing wellness checks on the guy.

Is this idiocy really the best that America has to offer? Russia and China don't need to bother with social media disinformation campaigns, just play the news straight.

This sums up Trumps rants today pretty well:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/columnist/2024/05/31/trump-verdict-press-conference-republicans-replacement-election/73923859007/

The web-o-sphere is full of sycophants parroting the "rigged trial" trope but that was easy to see coming. He's a one-trick pony, when he loses, it was rigged, been listening to that tripe for years now. Speculation is starting that on appeal the SCOTUS could overturn, and judging by their behaviour lately that may not be far-fetched.

One report said that in his post-trial "speech" he said that Biden didn't want people to have cars. Since I didn't listen to it all, I don't know if that's true, but there have been similar outlandish accusations in the past, e.g., forcing people to eat lab-grown meat. I see that nonsense on Facebook all the time. It's farcically ludicrous to say such things but there may be an audience for it. If people choose to believe stuff like that, it's easy to doubt their cognitive abilities. My cat is smarter than that. Speaking of which, I am astounded at the number of obviously fake postings on FB lately. I don't know about other social media, I don't use any others.

Since SCOTUS will almost certainly act to delay the remaining federal prosecutions past November so that they won't be heard or adjudicated before the election, this ain't over. Trump's opponents should not rely on the sanity of the US courts, that ship sailed. When supposedly sober senior justices get into public flaps about flags or their wives' support of phoney rigged election theories, it's too late to expect much from the Supreme Court.

The behaviour of the Republican party is laughably toadish, as per usual, but it's not hard to see why. Trump is all they have, too late to look for a replacement. My guess is that they're all sitting there hoping for the grip reaper to come visit and hoping he's shows up before 2028.

I also saw a report that Trump's online election donation server was swamped after the verdict. But that could be fake news as easily as it could be true, plausible either way.

Or like "Truth Social" (or Trump Steaks, Trump University, Trump Airline, Trump casinos and others**), just a POS of a job done.

Fact check: Trump’s post-conviction monologue was filled with false claims:

Any CPA out there can answer this for me?  How should one classify a hush payment to a porn star on the business financial statements? I would think it is a "legal expense," but I'm not sure.

Entertainment expense, surely. :)    (But I'm no accountant.)

I saw some of the exchange between MTG and Dr. Fauci at that hearing. I think Trump should choose her as VP running mate.

Ugh, that was so ugly and stupid. She would be perfect.

I recently saw a snippet of Trump railing against 'communists' invading the USA at the border. I did a mental double-take, wtf is he talking about? Communists!?! Is it the 1950s again.

Then yesterday I came across this very short snippet of some preacher talking about 'witches' during which he threatens to dox one. Observe his neat jig at the 14 second mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rzn8QBXtqV0

I saw a headline on either "thehill.com" or "politico.com" about a politician who wants Dr. Fauci arrested. On what charge?

I read that Joe Rogan is complaining about fluoridation of drinking water. (I guess he's worried about precious bodily fluids like that guy in Dr. Strangelove.)

In this context, MTG seems almost sane and flat earth theories are almost plausible.

Fluoride in water as been a hot topic since the 1970s. My dad was a dental epidemiologist and was involved in fluoridation projects (mostly as a researcher) back then. He got accused of all kinds of things including being a commie. He was pretty progressive so I guess he did fit the definition of a commie by people ignorant of the actual definition of Communist.

If you want to avoid "woke-ism", maybe emigrating to Russia is not the best way, https://www.wonkette.com/p/why-would-canadian-couple-who-dragged.

I don't know about that. Seems like it was very effective in avoiding woke-ism.
Although I think I'll continue to suffer through it here myself.

Amazing that you guys are still here, nattering.  It's kinda pointless now, though, with all the idiot right wingers gone.

You make a good point, but I am still amazed at some of the stuff I see and read.

For example, that Tennessee preacher Greg Locke who was freaking out over witches has declared himself to be an "apostle". So glad that youtube's algorithm is keeping me in the loop about him. I suppose he'll write a new gospel soon.

Who was that guy from New York who had heart disease, ate a ton of beef and complained that his cardiologist told him not to?  I miss him.
