But he is acting the way I expect him to act.

You have very low expectations for the most powerful person in the world.

Why are we still in this thread? The Chinese virus is done, finished, caput. Nobody cares anymore.

Maybe. Still, nobody cares.

I've started a new thread on the myths of systemic racism and the current riots and looting: https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=135187.0

EDIT: adding the subject of the thread

Very detailed description of Trump's day and his walk to the church, including preparation, execution and his assessment of the photo-op.

Quote
when the history of the Trump presidency is written, the clash at Lafayette Square may be remembered as one of its defining moments.

Mr. Trump and his inner circle considered it a triumph that would resonate with many middle Americans turned off by scenes of urban riots and looting that have accompanied nonviolent protests of the police killing of a subdued black man in Minneapolis.

But critics, including some fellow Republicans, were aghast at the use of force against Americans who posed no visible threat at the time, all to facilitate what they deemed a ham-handed photo opportunity featuring all white faces.
..
When he reached St. John’s, Mr. Trump made no pretense of any intent other than posing for photographs — he held up the Bible carried by his daughter, then gathered a few top advisers next to him in a line. He made no formal remarks and then, having accomplished his purpose, headed back to the White House, passing in front of a wall with new graffiti saying, “Fuck Trump.”

That's obviously because of the protests, dontcha know? ;)

(But seriously - save this for posterity - if the trend accelerates the usual suspects will be pinning it on liberal protesters, wholly ignoring the fact that it's a lagging indicator that will tie directly back to the push to "liberate Michigan'" get haircuts, and go to bars.

Those protest were largely socially distanced.  The protest this past week were not with several hugs being given out by people not wearing masks.

Again, you think Mexican vote left, you think he is mexican so he votes left. And if he votes left he is going to use this opportunity for a political attack.

You are not even admitting the possibility that he may he criticizing Trump because Trump, once again, acted nowhere near the way a President is expected to act in such circumstances.

More preconceptions not being challenged by obvious facts.

Cheers,
Bernard

No, he acted appropriately.  You dont let the country burn to the ground over some debunked political ideology all of these mayors bought into.  Peaceful protests are fine, but as soon as they get out of hand, mainly due to outside instigators such as Antifa, you have to drop the hammer.

You dont let people burn down neighborhoods and destroy things.  It was appropriate to breath down the governors' necks and threaten to end it himself with the military (which I would not want to see given the military are trained to kill, not subdue) to get them to act.

It is amazing that no white liberal, in this country, is seeing the gravity of this.  All Republicans and Black Democrats are, but this white progressive intersectional politics is what caused these riots by either preventing the white mayors of these cities to be either too afraid to alienate voters or because they themselves are so far down the rabbit hole themselves.

The only mayor that had the guts to call the rioters and looters out was the mayor of Atlanta.  IMO, since she is black, she had the foresight to realize that this destruction would only hurt her community, not help it.  My mayor looked like a deer in headlights when he went out after the second night and got his ass handed to him by many black residents for not calling in more police.

Now, with that said, Trump's remarks were not about uniting, which was a missed opportunity.  It is like when Patton got toasted for suggesting that every mans life in the army is expendable to win the war.  Everyone knows this, but no one really wants to hear it.  Same thing here, all sensible people knew the hammer needed to come down, but not really talk about.

Anyway, if it makes you happy Bernard, Biden also blew it with his speech yesterday.  As Carl Rove pointed out, people want a president not a presidential candidate and Biden came off as the latter in his speech.

It's a damn shame, but there is a leadership vacuum right now and the only one being somewhat sensible is Trump, which is who will fill the vacuum.  If the Dems actually picked a good candidate, they could run away with it after this.

See?  ;)

And how am I wrong?

As I said, I saw no social distancing (something you put great weight in) in the last week.  If cases uptick, it is not the fault of the conservative protests, but the recent ones.

It's probably not the fault of *either* set of protests at this time...

Ah really?

Showing a total lack of empathy, doing nothing to restore unity, throwing more fuel on the fire?

I am starting to think that you are very deeply anti-American Slobodan, that you hate the country beyond words and and trying everything you can to support Trump as he takes it closer to the edge of the cliff than ever before.

Regards,
Bernard

So move on and stop posting here in this thread. I, and I suspect many others, are still worried about it, in spite of you (and others) wanting to swipe it under the rug.

The world is much larger than trumpeteers think it is.

His job is to preserve and restore law and order, and protect citizens and property from criminals. Empathy feels fine, but doesn’t solve anything. As for unity, there has never been, nor will be.

Me anti-American!? I guess as much as the half of other Americans supporting Trump.

You might have noticed that this thread has devolved into racial riots in the last several pages. I opened a new thread about that so that you can continue about the Chinese virus here. You are welcome.

Restoring law and order would not have been needed had he played his role as a President in the first place.

Half of Americans supporting Trump? In your dreams my friend.

When I started this thread, it wasn't only to discuss the scientific aspects of the virus.  I wanted it to cover other aspects including politics and the economies of the world.  I think these are just as important.
