Actually if you look at the US - minus New York and New Jersey, we have done an amazing job. We can quibble over WHY New York is such a mess, but lets consider this, 25% of the Covid 19 deaths in New York come from nursing homes. New York had been requiring nursing homes to admit patients with Covid 19. I guess that means OMB?
New York and New jersey are effectively one place, when you consider the locations of international airports. And some 67 million people visited New York in 2019. That's why they had the rate of Covid-19 that they did. There were a number of reports that said when Trump closed flights from China, but not from Europe, the Chinese who needed to come to the US simply flew the other way around, and came in from Europe. The infection rate has peaked in New York, I think, but not in most of the rest of the country except perhaps Washington, where they are really on top of the situation. I think things will get much bleaker in LA when it becomes obvious how many street people are infected. And then you have places like Georgia, where the governor seems to be operating on some other wave length entirely.
But saying, "It can't be too bad because I don't have it," as people seem to be doing all over the country, doesn't mean that it isn't bad. If you get one infected traveler through some outback town in South Dakota, and given the intimacy of people in small towns, that one infected traveler could pass the virus through the whole town.
