Agree - it's the polite thing to do, and we all make some goofy-assed mistakes.   It's just kind of cringe-y when you repeatedly make an obvious basic mistake while trying to lord your intellectual superiority over someone else, yaknowwhatImean?

Am I really screwing that word up repeatably?

The article speaks for itself. At least Dubbya hired and kept some competent advisors. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/top-health-official-says-he-was-ousted-pushing-back-trump-n1190041

I don't know if you watched any of the president's daily new conferences.  But his team including Drs' Birx, Fauci, the CDC director, Army Corp of Engineers who built many temporary Covid hospitals, the VP, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, and other medical and economic specialists are all very competent and experienced.

If anyone wants to know why  I still prefer Trump in this mess, it's because of this.

Dem lawmakers eye 'opportunity' for historic expansion of government amid coronavirus crisis

During the last crisis, instead of dealing with crisis management only, Obama and the Dems reworked much of the system.  It screwed us for 8 years and it was not until Trump got into office and him removing the jungle of regulations that things started to open up again.  So, I'd take Trump over any  Dem, especially Biden, right now.

Even our enemies know having Biden in office would be a mistake.  Newly released passages from Bin Laden, “The reason for concentrating on them is that Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will make [Vice President] Biden take over the presidency.  Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis ..."

James Clark- I found a few photos of the 66 Mustang and of my BMW 2002, along with one of my favorite toys of that era, a Meyers Manx Dune Buggy.  The Mustang and buggy photos are so old they are almost gone.  I really loved that Mustang.  The buggy was my father-in-law's and I spent many great hours working on it with him and driving it on the Silver Lake Dunes in Michigan.

Yeah, it's just too bad that Trump has to attend. We really don't need an emcee. As Joe Friday would say, just the facts ma'am.

Americans want an effective leader like Trump.  Someone who knows how to get things done. Not a senile ex-senator and ex-VP hiding out in his basement.

You call Trump a leader?

It's been 43% since before the last election, pretty much.  If he saves the economy, or at least puts it back on track, he'll be re-elected.  Who's going to trust Biden with the economy?

Well he failed to save the people as they are dying at a 2,000/ day rate. Now we'll watch him screw the pooch on the economy. On his way out I'm sure he'll do something that will benefit his businesses and his cronies.

Actually if you look at the US - minus New York and New Jersey, we have done an amazing job.    We can quibble over WHY New York is such a mess, but lets consider this, 25% of the Covid 19 deaths in New York come from nursing homes. New York had been requiring nursing homes to admit patients with Covid 19.  I guess that means OMB?

And I have none of them.. :-[

Many millions have Mustang stories, fewer have 2002 stories, and very few have Meyers Manx stories. :)

God help me when I need to choose between "effect" and "affect" :).

That's an easy one to remember: "affect" is a verb, except when it's a noun; and "effect" is a noun, except when it's a verb.

California has only 1425 deaths out of 40 million people.  That's 0.000035625 death rate, amazingly low.  How did they do that?

New York and New jersey are effectively one place, when you consider the locations of international airports. And some 67 million people visited New York in 2019. That's why they had the rate of Covid-19 that they did. There were a number of reports that said when Trump closed flights from China, but not from Europe, the Chinese who needed to come to the US simply flew the other way around, and came in from Europe. The infection rate has peaked in New York, I think, but not in most of the rest of the country except perhaps Washington, where they are really on top of the situation. I think things will get much bleaker in LA when it becomes obvious how many street people are infected. And then you have places like Georgia, where the governor seems to be operating on some other wave length entirely.

But saying, "It can't be too bad because I don't have it," as people seem to be doing all over the country, doesn't mean that it isn't bad. If you get one infected traveler through some outback town in South Dakota, and given the intimacy of people in small towns, that one infected traveler could pass the virus through the whole town.
