Aren't they all Korean?  They are here where I live.  But then I don't have my nails done to know for sure.  OK  How about Italian pizza store owners? Indian owned Dunkin Donuts? Jewish owned Kosher deli's? White owned confederate flag and memorabilia stores?  The point is the owners are getting bonuses when they go out of business from the general public who can ill afford it.  Are you in favor of that?

Yikes!

Looks like things are really heating up for the Trump campaign:

"By Thursday, Trump was railing about Biden's plans to deprive home dishwashers of water and blind everyone with low-wattage LED light bulbs."

https://www.salon.com/2020/07/18/no-rallies-no-death-star-trumps-campaign-is-disintegrating-before-our-eyes/

Well, I for one am glad we have some new talking points: dishwashers and light bulbs. All that talk about Mexican rapists and murderers was getting to be old hat. Besides, with the wall scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, that problem goes away.

Trump to Chris Wallace on last weekend's Fox News Sunday talk show:

"“Dr. [Anthony] Fauci said don’t wear a mask, our surgeon general — terrific guy — said don’t wear a mask. Everybody was saying don’t wear a mask, all of a sudden everybody’s got to wear a mask,” Trump continued. “And as you know, masks cause problems too. With that being said, I am a believer in masks. I think masks are good.”

That is Trump's secret - he always says both things so that he can never be wrong.
And then to know what he really thinks, watch what he does...

A true conman!

To be fair, we were warned many times not to take Trump at his word. Sometimes what he says isn't what he means. Sometimes it is. It's complicated. Maybe Alan can explain it. :)

Since that article is from Salon so we can be assured its well presented and without bias.

To be fair, the low water level dishwashers and wasihng machines well and truly suck. We have current models of both and they both do a worse job and take longer to finish than the old models they replaced.

I'm not a huge fan of LED bulbs either but I have them everywhere in my house. Finding a good bulb with a color temp that is pleasing is quite a challange, but they do last quite a while compared to filament bulbs.

It will be an interesting few months to be sure.  Its quite possible we will have a Bernie Sanders/Liz Warren/AOC president.

Trump is obsessed with how he looks. This isn't the first time he has gone off on light bulbs. He likes the old tungsten light bulbs that are more flattering to his complexion, and they are hard to find these days. The LED bulbs leave him looking washed out, and he has to apply even more suntan makeup than usual. Ultimately, I think the issue is clogged pores. Democrats are for clogged pores.

The thing with dishwashers is new to me, but certainly needs to be looked into. If Biden is thinking about banning using water in dishwashers, that may be the issue that gets suburban housewives back in the Republican column. Dumb like a fox.

I am surprised he hasn't brought up toilets recently.  I thought that topic really resonated with voters.  I think he said that with the new toilets you had to flush them 10-15 times, so you really didn't save water. I am not sure what demographic that issue was aimed at. I guess everyone.

By the way, if you are still keeping track, according to the CDC, the death toll yesterday was 926, with the cumulative total at 137,864.

Seems like the EU can't get its act together regarding a proposed EU 750 billion bailout package people say is needed because of the recession caused by the virus.  The frugal northern nations led by the Netherlands don't want to bail out the less frugal southern states. "Hungary will decide how to spend it's own money," complains the Hungarians.  Here in America, both Democrats and Republicans know where their bread is butter and agree to print as much as they need to get re-elected.

Far apart — literally and figuratively — EU leaders gather to debate coronavirus recovery

Best description I've heard of for this kind of drivel from His Orangeness is "verbal dysentery"

The guy can neither write nor speak coherently, let alone be an orator; something pretty well on the required items list for The President.

Yet unaccountably some continue to offer him their support.

With morgues brimming, Texas and Arizona turn to refrigerator trucks
Every disaster has its symbols, "for COVID-19, it might just be the refrigerator truck."

https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/07/with-morgues-brimming-texas-and-arizona-turn-to-refrigerator-trucks/

Quote
Officials in Texas and Arizona have requested refrigerated trucks to hold the dead as hospitals and morgues become overwhelmed by victims of the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the hospital, there are only so many places to put bodies,” Ken Davis, chief medical officer of Christus Santa Rosa Health System in the San Antonio area, said in a briefing this week. “We're out of space, and our funeral homes are out of space, and we need those beds. So, when someone dies, we need to quickly turn that bed over.

“It’s a hard thing to talk about,” Davis added. “People's loved ones are dying."

Here's a recent article from The Atlantic about QAnon, https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/06/qanon-nothing-can-stop-what-is-coming/610567/. People unfamiliar with conspiracy theories may not know about with Q or QAnon. This article is a summary of its aspects with some history, a useful reference for those who may not be familiar with it or how widespread its beliefs are. The article also spends some time describing how Trump feeds and benefits from it. I find it interesting how the entire structure is built on faith.

Stats?

Yesterday (18th July) The Times newspaper in the UK, reported that the death stats for England included anyone who had had Coronovirus, irrespective of how they had died.  This means that if someone had recovered but then died in a car accident, (s)he is included in the stats.  The consequence is that the death stats in the UK can never go down to zero unto everyone who had the virus had died!   The Times reported that in Scotland only those who die within 28 days of a positive test are counted.  On the other hand the virus can cause problems for months after infection so may be missed there.  The concern is that in England the deaths in care homes will continue to be reported even after recovery as life expectancy is not as long as in the general public.

Apparently there is no WHO agreed method of counting the deaths from Covid-19.

So we should not compare stats until we know the bases are the same.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

remarkable;

The Russian stats are also remarkable; they have every day 6000-7000 new infected and every day 100-200 deaths... the last month or longer.
I read they only count a corona death if it was the only cause...

Stats?

The CDC stats appear to be a day or two delayed now that hospitals are required to report their stats to HHS. I could not find national totals at the HHS site. They report by county and state. Who is going to add up 50 state (or several hundred county) numbers every time to arrive at a national stat? I guess that is the idea. The problem is people keep dying whether you report the stat or not. I guess we'll just have to rely on Google Maps for photos of the back of hospitals to see which ones have the refrigerated trucks. Anybody know how many dead people you can fit in a refrigerated truck?

I think even his supporters will enjoy Trump's answer to Chris Wallace's question this morning about the cognitive ability test Trump "aced" a couple of years ago. I hope one of the moderators actually brings a copy of the test to a debate so the nation can see why Trump is so justifiably proud of having correctly identified the elephant out of the three animals shown. I guess that is sort of a gimme for a Republican. To make it fair, perhaps Joe Biden's copy of the test should ask him to identify a donkey.

You should really watch the whole interview, but if you only have four minutes, here is a condensed version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nof1LyQudAM

The interview was taped earlier this week. Sunday morning found Trump and Senator Lindsey Graham out on the golf course. I am just glad Trump got out of his pajamas before noon. Things are looking up.

I agree with the total imbecile part...but the most powerful man in the world...not so much. Putin has Trump on a string like a puppet, thumbs up when he pulls the string up and thumbs down when he pulls the string down.

Coronavirus on the light side:

Quote: "2019: Stay away from negative people. 2020: Stay away from positive people.

The world has turned upside down. Old folks are sneaking out of the house, and their kids are yelling at them to stay indoors!

You think it’s bad now? In 20 years our country will be run by people home-schooled by day drinkers…

This virus has done what no woman had been able to do…cancel all sports, shut down all bars, and keep men at home!!!

Do not call the police on suspicious people in your neighborhood! Those are your neighbors without makeup and hair extensions!

Since we can’t eat out, now’s the perfect time to eat better, get fit, and stay healthy. We’re quarantined! Who are we trying to impress? We have snacks, we have sweatpants – I say we use them!

Day 7 at home and the dog is looking at me like, “See? This is why I chew the furniture!”

Does anyone know if we can take showers yet or should we just keep washing our hands???

I never thought the comment “I wouldn’t touch him/her with a 6 foot pole” would become a national policy, but here we are!

Me: Alexa what’s the weather this weekend?
Alexa: It doesn’t matter – you’re not going anywhere.

Can everyone please just follow the government instructions so we can knock out this corona virus and be done?! I feel like a kindergartner who keeps losing more recess time because one or two kids can’t follow directions.

I swear my fridge just said “what the hell do you want now?”

When this is over…what meeting do I attend first…Weight Watchers or AA?

Quarantine has turned us into dogs. We roam the house all day looking for food. We are told “no” if we get too close to strangers. And we get really excited about car rides."

You need to lighten up a little Jeremy.  Life's too short.  A little foxhole humor makes most people smile.
