Problems importing pictures from Whatsapp
« on: November 27, 2018, 11:57:17 pm »

Since this past summer I have been unable to import pictures that came to me through Whatsapp. I get "Preview unable and "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo". Any ideas regarding possible workarounds?

Version of Lightroom? OS? How exactly did you get the photos out of WhatsApp? What file type are they?

LR 6.13 on Mac OSX 10.9

Files are JPG.

I copied them from my Android cellphone to my PC laptop. Moved from there to my Mac via flash drive.

I suspect it's something to do with your transfer process, perhaps the copy from the Android phone to the PC. I just copied a photo from WhatsApp running on my Mac (Mojave) by dragging it to the desktop and was then able to import it into LR without difficulty.

Thanks for the tip about the existence of a desktop version of WhatsApp. I didn't think that existed. I installed and downloaded a small batch of pix. The only one that imported properly was one shot on my wife's Samsung phone. So it's a camera problem, or something else on my son's end. We'll work on that.
