Odd in a good way.
And clean and elegant.

Odd in a good way.
I almost trashed the image because of the stain around the shadow of the small post. Of course I came to realize it was a stain and not a cloned out post! I should also add, the grate on the bottom left helps to balance the three posts.

Deux chevaux

Ivo, too bad you didn't take one step back. The 2CV is the prettiest thing in that picture.

That’s the whole point, I cut off the 2CV to create that tension on the border of the frame.

I suspect you won't object to a comment like this so I will gamble :)

I could see why you cut the 2CV but it didn't work for me because it was so far away from the other strong element of the image the triangle made by the roof on the left. Maybe it's me being too simplistic but while there is a tension with the two things pulling in different directions the space between is too large and a bit busy for me.

Might look totally different printed though where it's easier to take in the whole thing.

I’m happy with comments about the picture, that’s why I post them. It’s a relief to get comments on the visual aspect and not on the genre or whatever cheap arguments.

If it didn’t work, it is not good. Point. This is the last step in editing and preparing for sequencing the série (it’s part of a série) see if the image still works if nobody tell blabla about it and without a large explanation.

In this case, it doesn’t. That’s great to know.

Tx for the feed back. I could only hope for more comments like this.

A short note aside the picture. I don’t chase ‘pretty’
The image is not about pretty. It is about suburbs of a small province town in Flanders.
Prettiness is relative, how can pretty survive in certain environment?
P.e. Is a beautiful girl in a harsh environment pulled down, or does she lever the situation to a more pleasant level.

That kind of questions....

Tx for you feed back, much appreciated.

In all honesty I find them both muddled and without focus which can be good but in this case I'm not convinced. I'm not sure what reward I get from studying the detail of the second one and I'm not convinced that there is any strong composition there.

The Roman one? Is the contrast between what might be seen as old and relatively new what you were after? For me I suspect the picture is in the area around his leg and shadow where a good deal would be implied not shown explicitly.

Probably just me being dozy though. Not been a good morning so far :)

It is about irrelevance.
Focus is outside the frame. I like the idea to photograph aside the focus, kind of ignoring the obvious.
For me it is a phase between one approach and another approach. A never ending quest.

The Roman warrior is one of te first attempts, a finger exercise. The second reflects how I feel about Christmas period. So if you feel muddled, yeah, that’s exactly Christmas in the streets of Antwerp, there is no reward.

... that tension on the border...

Indeed. Awful. Aren’t you tired of it already over there? Aren’t we here too?  ;)

No, I’m not. And Awful is a powerful sentiment that is equal to beautiful.

I understand it disturbs you’re warm and fuzzy feeling.

And Slobo, who are you trying to pull in the debate? You can join the constructive discussion as well instead trying to nuke everything what doesn’t please your eye.

Second reading of your comment.

Are you asking me when I leave Lula?

... And Slob[o], who are you trying to pull in the debate?...

That was an attempt to circumvent the ban on political discussions ;) I was referring to immigrant tensions on your and our borders. Nothing to do with my judgment of your image, which I otherwise think is ok.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. And by no means would I ask you to leave LuLa. I find your contribution, in images and debates, refreshing.

I was honestly on the wrong leg , Slobodan, and I’m glad I am. I apologize for my misunderstanding.

They look like rapists and drug dealers to me.

Not a nice comment, in my opinion.
You should be more careful with what you say.

I removed the picture.
I find those jokes tasteless. I knew those children.
And yes, they were poor.
