I had a long day at work today and wasn't going to crack open the latest video journal till I was in a better mood.
Yeah right...
Well, I have you guys to thank for energizing me out of my stupor. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. Thanks, I think...
Chris, you've outdone yourself in the video segment on Bangladesh. The sensitivity to light and the flow really captures the chaos, serenity, vitality and humanity of the country and its people.
I noticed a smoothness in the technical elements that allowed the printed photos to really yield their details--what I think of as a "Rick Burns" approach with zooming into and out of the printed images. Nicely done.
I liked the conversation between Andrew Chan and Michael that tied the video and the printed images together with a spontaneous conversation that was entertaining and interesting.
Your guys at the video journal have made the technical elements so understated by now that the viewer can relax and go along with you on the journey, almost forgetting that he isn't there beside you.
I also admire the way you pace the journey in a leisurly way. It's not rush-rush and cut-cut like most music videos. You guys trust the viewer to bring some of his own photo experience to the table, and his own sense of how a photographic trip unfolds in an organic way.
Well done Michael and Chris.
You've invented and refined a new visual form.
