Apparently, the problem was my subscription expired. I received no notice of this.

I though mine had expired and I wrote to Steven Sauve... In his reply, he told me that my issue would ship in a few days... Just a couple of hours later, it was in my mailbox!

I checked my subscription yesterday (logging in to "my account") and found that I am indeed subscribed through #18. So I'm eagerly waiting for #15.

Which will arrive first? The DVD or the email?

How did you get to order it via UPS? There was no option for that available to me - and I looked very carefully!

I had to check my subscription also, and it had expired. No notice of that via email. So had to reregister and Michael was nice enough to thank me in his email and give me a discount coupon.

Now all I have to do is find that credit card again.

Subscriptions come with free shipping - via mail

Single Issues and other one-time products come at a higher price and the option to ship by Mail, UPS or FedEx

The ship scan emails seem to have been delayed - at this point I do not know why. I will find out tomorrow.

(Oiye Blas! Tranquillo hombre! La paciencia por favor. su DVD viene para caballito xpress.    )

Seems that the mail server at Duplium (our shipper) has coughed and spluttered over the shipping emails for LLVJ-15. I am delighted to report that several customers (all Irish strangely enough  ) have reported receiving their DVD a day before it shipped

Ah we try, we do, we really try . . .

I had a long day at work today and wasn't going to crack open the latest video journal till I was in a better mood.

Yeah right...

Well, I have you guys to thank for energizing me out of my stupor. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. Thanks, I think...

Chris, you've outdone yourself in the video segment on Bangladesh. The sensitivity to light and the flow really captures the chaos, serenity, vitality and humanity of the country and its people.

I noticed a smoothness in the technical elements that allowed the printed photos to really yield their details--what I think of as a "Rick Burns" approach with zooming into and out of the printed images. Nicely done.

I liked the conversation between Andrew Chan and Michael that tied the video and the printed images together with a spontaneous conversation that was entertaining and interesting.

Your guys at the video journal have made the technical elements so understated by now that the viewer can relax and go along with you on the journey, almost forgetting that he isn't there beside you.

I also admire the way you pace the journey in a leisurly way. It's not rush-rush and cut-cut like most music videos. You guys trust the viewer to bring some of his own photo experience to the table, and his own sense of how a photographic trip unfolds in an organic way.

Well done Michael and Chris.

You've invented and refined a new visual form.

L.

Based on the totally reliable data I've obtained from the Lu-La Forum, I am constructing a new Map of the World. At the center is Canada. Next comes Switzerland, followed by Australia, with the eastern United States way off in a corner.

Actually, I don't mind (too much) waiting, because I know the product will be great when it gets here (and won't have any centerfold problems.)

It's a new record down here in West Virginia!     I received my email notification last Tuesday (Oct 10, 2006) and the LLVJ today, Saturday (Oct. 14).

After my trials and tribulations with #14 I promised myself I would not get excited or in a hurry. With #14 a month passed so I contacted Steve and he immediately shipped a replacement, which arrived in 10 days, in the same post that the original shipment arrived. So this time I promised myself I would wait patiently and not bother Steve until I just couldn't stand it any more. So I guess even good intentions and thoughts are rewarded.

But I'm going to wait until tonight to view it (the first time) as the fall color here is reaching its peak and I'm going to see if I can capture some photons today.

It was discussed here after the last one or two DVDs that it appeared that the DVDs were more or less travelling eastward around the world, with the very last ones to arrive being in the Western U.S.

Still waiting for either email or DVD here in California...

Excellent shipping time to Norway, too.

I got an e-mail on the evening (local time) of the 10th of October stating that the DVD had shipped, and it was in my mailbox on the 13th.

That's two postal days of shipping, that beats any former experience I have with shipping times from that continent.

Now I just have to find the time to view it; I still haven't seen issue 14(!).

My new world map is getting more complicated avery day. Now we have California east of Boston, and both Norway and Florida are closer to Canada than Boston is. And I forgot to put in UK as closest of all to Canada.

It must be plate techtonics messing up the world.

Eric

P.S. I still expect to enjoy my #15 thoroughly when it arrives. It should be a mature, vintage DVD by that time.

Ah, but Wisconsin and Texas are both in the U.S., like Boston. So our DVDS probably arrived at Guantanamo Bay on the 12th, where thay will be held until Homeland Security decides that they don't pose a threat.

Day 14

Still camped at the mailbox.  It is colder today but the falling leaves have given me warm bedding.  Unfortunately the cold seems to have driven the squirrels off so my food supplies are running low.  Soon we may have to move camp to the tree side of the mailbox for shelter.  No sign of relief.  Some in the party have begun to fear LLVJ will never come.

From this thread I have deduced that my DVD 15 is heading straight to Boston in a direct line. It was shipped on the 10th from Toronto, then went (apparently) straight through U.K., Germany, Montreal, Switzerland, Australia, West Virginia, Norway, California (northern but not southern), and North Carolina.

At the U.S. Postal Delay Center in North Carolina, the remaining as-yet-undelivered DVDs were loaded individually onto the backs of U.S.P.S. Tortoises. Two of these tortoises are in a neck and neck race northward toward Boston, one with my DVD and one for BlasR. But his will take longer than mine, because he lives south of Boston, and his tortoise will have to circle the city three times before heading south.

A third tortoise, with very short legs, is just now heading straight toward Dark Penguin, and expected to arrive in, say, about December of 2938.

A fourth tortoise headed directly for Texas, but stopped at the Mississippi River because it was afraid of getting its toes wet (from all the "Drip ... Drip ... Drip ... .)

For some reason I keep thinking that everyone but me has their new DVD, so mine should be showing up in the mailbox tomorrow right? Now I find out there's something about water that tortoises don't like, and the really fast tortoises haven't even made it to Boston yet. When I thought that my DVD was coming from Canada, I figured that was great because Alaskans and Canadians are neighbors. I'm only now beginning to understand how desperately far away Toronto really is. Maybe I could get a special tortoise? With a carrot on a stick perhaps?

Your tortoise may need water wings, because to get from Canada to Alaska it obviously has to cross the Atlantic,  Pacific, and Indian Oceans (according to my new LL world map).

Right. Our tortoises have probably gone into hibernation for the winter. I just hope we have an early and warm spring.

Well, another day has gone bye-bye, no DVD nor a tortoise to be seen. I head for a 10 day trip to the north country (Maine) tomorrow. I'll look for any non-hibernating tortoises in Maine and maybe I can "borrow" the DVD he's carrying. In his cold sluggish state, he won't even know it's missing. If it's addressed to dark penguin I'll drop it off on the way to Conn on the 4th of Nov.

Keep the faith. My copy shipped on October 11 just arrived in today's mail.  Just about when it has historicaly arrived on my doorstep [too big to fit in my mailbox].

Yes I know, those of us on the East Coast always moan and groan about the snail like pace and the fact that the DVDs are shipped East to West as opposed to North to South but that just adds to the anticipation and the ultimate enjoyment.

I have learned over the years that it is just not worth the effort to get too upset about something like this. It is not like they lost a $7,000 camera or lens, just a DVD and I know that if it is lost, then fulfilment will promptly send me a new disc.

So, when things settle down here, I will prop my feet up on the coffee table, after inserting the disc in the DVD player, lean back on the couch and hit "play" and just enjoy two + hours of commercial free Michael and friends.

Thank you

Mine was shipped on the 10th of October (according to the email.) Still not here (tomorrow will be three weeks.)

Will the "digital revolution" be over before issue 15 arrives in Massachusetts? Tune in next decade and find out.

The race is now on! Yesterday I ordered the Death Valley DVD from Steve Kossack and today I got the email that it has shipped (three weeks to the day after my LLVJ #15 shipped.)

My DeLorme map program says that the distance from Toronto to Boston is about 540 miles and from Arizona to Boston is about 2700 miles.

Which will arrive first???

The LLVJ has one fifth the distance to travel and a three-week head start. I'll let you all know who wins.

It's here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mail just arrived, with a DVD. And it's the LLVJ #15!

Three weeks to the day since the shipping announcement.

How about you, Blasr? Got yours yet, or did I beat you this time? And Bob McCarthy? How's the water torture?

- Eric (happy to be able to stop photographing and watch my DVD instead.)

See, patience is its own virtue and the reward at the end of the trail is well worth it. While I haven't watched mine as yet, I am waiting till the weekend when I have the time to really enjoy it, I know I am going to like it just like all that came before.

The one sure thing, once those puppys hit the east coast, then the trip north is just a day away.

Congratulations, Blas! But I hope you won't be canceling your trip to Bosque just to stay home and watch the DVD.

By the way: My Death Valley DVD from Steve Kossack arrived today, also by USPS. So it takes the USPS 3 days to ship one DVD 2700 miles from Arizona to Boston, and 21 days to ship an LLVJ DVD 540 miles from Toronto to Boston.

I suspect that the U.S. Customs inspectors at the Canadian border just have too big a backlog. Each day new items get dumped onto the top of their pile, and each day they slowly work their way down from the top of the same pile (Last In -- First Out.) Or maybe they're having so much fun looking for packages that might contain illegally imported Bayer aspirin that they can't be bothered sending DVDs onward.

EricM, bosque Del Apache, was in my list since I watch Michael's/Chriss dvd from there, so I'm first there,  if is any barrier between any one, will be to bad, for the person.  So Bosque will be in my list every year around the time, if you like to joying us you will be more then welcome, but remember my older son is 3 in the little one is not even a year old yet..

Just got back from Maine. Still no LL.

Why not transmit the data to a USA duplicator and ship from inside the US. I use Duplium in Dallas for my own duplication. I you did so also, you wouldn't have to change duplicators if that's your desire.

Well the trip to Maine was interesting. We got there with a major storm hitting the area. The locals were describing it as equivalent to the "perfect storm period" from the 90's. It was blowing with gusts into hurricane territory. Biggest wave's I've ever seen, by far.

If there were any tortoises delivering LL-DVD's, they were blown back across the border to Toronto.

Mid week it was so warm, that any tortoises that survived the storm moved north, thinking that they were in Miami.

They're all back in Canada.

Chris, do I wait longer or ??

Some of those tortoises just like to torture people by waiting until you have sent a message to Steve Sauve asking for another copy.

I'll have to revise my world map again, putting Texas a bit farther from Toronto than Boston.

Eric,
Another interesting story... One of my friend ordered an single issue (#15) last Friday and the DVD was delivered next Monday [3 days] - in Switzerland. Amazing, the DVD took less time to cross the ocean(s) and be delivered than normal local mail usually does.

Shipping is something I never quite understood.

Issue 15 just arrived today in Los Angeles, 5 weeks to the day after it was shipped.  I'm guessing I'm the last North American subscriber to receive his copy.  I'd already contacted Steven Sauve for a replacement so I expect that to get here on Santa's sleigh around Christmas.

That said, I had time to watch the Bangladesh travel segment. As always, Michael as host, Chris's videography/editing and Steven's music are all first-rate.

Five weeks is appaling and totaly unacceptable. We're taking several steps so that this never happens again.

Michael,

Thanks, I know that you will do everything you can to make this situation right.

The thing that puzzles me is that a couple of northern California subscribers received their copies at least 2 weeks before I did in Los Angeles. Makes me wonder if there is a problem associated with USPS service here in southern California.

Kind regards,

Paul
