Fujifilm GFX just announced with 6 lenses (all available in 2017)

Take a look at these videos of a prototype of the camera in use (sorry it's in Japanese) - you can see how much chunkier the camera is than the Hasselblad, probably about 50% or maybe even more thicker:

I think many MF users will prefer the "beefier" Fuji body with respect to X1D... The traditional analog controls too... I think the extra bulk is related to the camera having a (huge) focal plane shutter in the body (which Hasselblad lucks), as well as the work that has been done on the interchangeable viewfinder...

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the most important feature of the GFX. In the video they have posted of the fashion shoot, the photographer is quite clearly shooting tethered to C1 PRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuji has already said that the camera can shoot tethered so any application that builds in tethering support for that camera will work.
Oh wait, I think your point is that C1 is working with a non Phase One MF camera...!  That would be huge.

Serious now, lets not forget that Fuji is fully aware of the Hasselblad H latest interface (they make the lenses!) and thus it wouldn't be surprising at all if they'll present an adapter for one to use Hasselblad H lenses with full leaf shutter sync compatibility on the body... Even if one then buys HC/HCD lenses for the camera, there is still income out of the lenses for Fuji!

Unless Hassy agrees to this, and I don't think they would, this would put the relationship btw the 2 companies seriously at risk. This is most probably not going to happen. The best way to use H lenses on a mirrorless camera is going to be the X1D.

I'm not that familiar with C1 pro yet, but since it's clearly a pre-production camera, wouldn't the most likely explanation be that they were shooting jpeg or tiff to a watched folder? And isn't it possible they could have used something like an Eyefi card in the camera to send them to the computer, or the new camera has wifi built into it?

There is nothing that Hasselblad can do to stop them doing so... there is no "patent protection" or "rights" for lens interface communication...

Perhaps Hasselblad's choice to address on a different maker for the X1D lenses is related to them knowing that the GFX was coming....

Lets not forget that HC lenses where also marketed as Fujinons in the Japan (and other far east) market(s). Hasselblad may of course decide to then get another provider for future H lenses, but I very much doubt they would want to do so... Lets not forget, that there is nothing stopping Fuji as to continue making lenses for the H system even if Hasselblad decides on a different provider and that Fuji is most probably aiming for high volume for the GFX (maybe 25K units annually?) and that could be very good income provider for Hasselblad as it could then widen the lens market for the H system (which is less than 1/10th for production volumes) considerably...

I think that both makers could benefit substantially if such an adapter would be available....

I'll be curious to eventually read reviews and user reports on degree of weather sealing....camera and lenses...given the announced terminology 'weather resistant'.  I hope it's as robust as reports on the Leica S and SL.

Lensrentals plans to carry the X1D for rental; I've emailed them to determine if they'll also carry the Fuji. If so, I'll be testing both in my print workflow.  Lensrentals has also been known to disassemble very expensive cameras and lenses soon after release, not just as part of servicing, but to evaluate build (and weather sealing) quality.

Good times for photographers....the hits just keep on coming.

That does certainly highlight the achievement of Hassleblad making the X1D as thin as it is although I suspect Fuji's motivation for saving that degree of size may not have been as strong.

Generally what stands out for me is just how different two MF mirrorless cameras with essentially the same sensor look in terms of their intent. For all the talk of professional use I think the key market for the X1D is offering something for the traditional Leica market where as this Fuji system seems more aimed at either traditional MF users or FF DSLR users.

You could argue I spose that "crop" MF is in some ways more like ASPC than it is FF in terms of the mirrorless market. That is your not just dealing with potentially saving size via removing the mirror but also by designing your mount for the specific sensor size rather than being tied to a longer flange distance of a larger format size, look at how much thinner the Leice S is relative to the Pentax 645D/Z. That leaves more room for different levels of size saving, just as you have very small ASPC mirrorless cameras but also something like the X-T1 that's still smaller than a DSLR but with more similar handling rather than depending more overtly on menus.

I am at Photokina with Nick Devlin and we have a meeting tomorrow to go over this new camera.  It will most likely be the talk of the show this year.  we'll make posts as soon as we can on all we see and learn.  In my opinion it looks to be quite an interesting camera and it shows that the industry belives in medium format.  It will be interesting to see how the enxt few months as well as next year plays out.

One more thing please Kevin, I'm under the strong impression by looking inside the mount of the naked body, that the GFX can use a FF 54x40mm sensor on the same very mount... I think that this is among the most important questions that would be great to be answered.....

If not the 54X40, for sure 48X36 fits in. And I agree, that would be THE question and THE answer for Kina '16.

There is a lot to chew on here!  2017 will be a very fun year in terms of how MF market continues to evolve.  To be honest I'm not sure how I will respond to all this news.  I will have to wait to get some performance data and usability info.  I currently own the IQ3100 and love the camera - except the weight.  My plan was to buy the X1D (if I like it's performance) and use it as a backup in my pack or my solo camera when weight restrictions are necessary.  Depending how the Fuji system tests out and whether they develop a larger sensor it could be the one and only.  It's a very high class problem to have these kind of choices.  We are clearly the hitting asymtote of performance.  I guess usability will now rule the day.  It may be time to sell all my Nikon equipment to pay for all of this!

Sorry about the Typo that's what happens at 2AM in the morning.  Spent some time with the GFX today more will come in our show report.  It feels good in the hands, is light and lenses were lighter than expected.  It is mechanical shutter only now with 125th sync speed.   The shooting specs sound good around 4fps and the ergonomics is well thought out.

That the camera has a focal plane shutter, doesn't mean that it won't be able to work with leaf shutter... Lets wait and see... Lets not forget that leaf shutter on their MF products is a tradition for Fuji...

Did you check on the mount ability to work with a full 54x40mm sensor Kevin? It looks to me that it may well be the case that it does...
