we're back to 7 cameras, H6, XD, P1XF, S, Alpa, Sinar and now Fuji. MF might have enough marketing money poured in to to take off again. This is good news.

Actually as Mr Oosting suggested in his interview back in January, "MF market is expected to rise by attracting newcomers out of the top end consumers of FF DSLRs...

The thing is that prices vary significantly between makers, while image quality - it being mostly based on the same sensor from Sony (Leica/Sinar group only excluded)- has very little that differs between makers and functionality as well as adaptation to different photographic tasks, favors the ...entry level products!

Therefore I don't see how some out of the Hi-end makers will make it in the near future, unless if they redesign their marketing position altogether... ALPA seemed to have realised that and turned to collaboration agreement with other than expected...

Safe to say, heavier and bulkier than the X1D, however already liking the design. The rotation on the viewfinder is very unique.

It weights 880g with the viewfinder, and Hasselblad is 725g.

Pretty cool stuff. I can imagine getting the camera along with the three initial lenses and calling it a day. I'd use the rig (mostly) handheld.

IMO it'll be good for the medium format market to have a player who's in it mainly for the prestige and can afford to not be cautious. That Fuji's camera division also appears to have a clue about who its customers are is also a plus.

"This sensor has been fully customised – it is entirely new and all designed by Fuji. It uses an optimised silicon optical diode process, and Fuji says it will resolve 1000 lines more than 35mm format."

Not only for macro work. I regularly find myself with my back against a wall when shooting interiors - and wish I could step back further. So I place the camera directly at the wall and use a field monitor to compose and focus. Setting this up takes time when I do paid word. With the GFX' rotatable EVF I won't need that any more. Great innovation.

This type of design, was what I had hoped Phase One would work out on the XF, or at least follow up with it, as they made the 90 degree viewfinder removeable, (sure I know they have the other style that can be mounted). 

But thinking more about it, probably won't happen to the XF, as you would also have to remove the finder screen inside the camera and that's not an easy job.  The CMOS backs, would adapt pretty easily, just be in Live View all the time.  With the power share tech they came out with, which works great, the drain on the back due to Live View would not be as hard.

Good catch on video, which is a bit surprising, but as you point out, may come later. 

Also curious about electronic first curtain on the FPS, and or fully electronic shutter as on the X series cameras.

I am at Photokina with Nick Devlin and we have a meeting tomorrow to go over this new camera.  It will most likely be the talk of the show this year.  we'll make posts as soon as we can on all we see and learn.  In my opinion it looks to be quite an interesting camera and it shows that the industry belives in medium format.  It will be interesting to see how the enxt few months as well as next year plays out.

Same line of bull every time Nikon announces a camera based on a Sony sensor.  It is the Sony sensor with a Fuji designed micro lens array.  It is not an entirely new sensor but they always say that.  yes it is an entirely new part number that uses the same mask set and semiconductor process as the other guys using the Sony 50mp sensor with only the final steps being custom to Fuji.

Very interesting times!

In the end it will be about leaf shutter lenses vs in body shutter. If you need flash outdoors, go Hassy, if you don't go Fuji. If you want non native lenses, go Fuji,...

I would expect the leaf shutter to be a major design constraint which explains the hesitations of Fuji with zoom lenses. On the other hand Fuji, that I consider to be one of the 2-3 best lens design house in the world, will be able to unleash their creativity.

The truth is that most photographers needing outdoor strobes already shoot with leaf shutter lenses, and there is limited incentive to use H lenses with a X1D due to bulk and cost.

Overall my bet goes slightly to Fuji... and that with me being real close to investing in the H system.

I agree this is "the talk of the show"...

May I suggest to also have a close look and report on the lots of new ALPA announcements?
