The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the president is immune to civil lawsuits for "all acts within the 'outer perimeter' of his duties of office."  Nixon v. Fitzgerald, 457 U.S. 731 (1982).

I wonder if much of the "hair-pulling" by some pundits over the SCOTUS recent immunity ruling has somewhat to do with perspective and who they fear is going to use the power? Presidential immunity seems necessary when a reasonable, thoughtful, intelligent person is in office, however less so when a self-centred, vindictive, sociopath sits in the chair.

And the lack of clarity on "official act" spins two threads. One, relates to whether Trump will be ultimately found guilty of an offence, while the other, how Trump's counsel can now use the lack of clarity as a way to delay (multiple months spent arguing the definition and then it will have to go back to SCOTUS eventually anyway to decide) every case against him, at least until he gets into office and gives himself a pardon or other get out of jail free card. I think this is where SCOTUS dropped the ball the most and truly wonder if they did it as gift to him. Regardless, they sure didn't do their reputation, or the country, any good.

Back in the 1970s, one of the complaints from US conservative media (American Spectator among others) was the then (liberal) "activist" Supreme Court, as they viewed it at the time.

Curious. My first thought was that the system didn't like .png files, but posted one without trouble; my second was that it didn't like your filename, but I've posted a png with an identical name.

Both PNGs were 427K.
Both opened fine in Photoshop, I did a resave as PNG, but no go.

The article contains no comment on the effect of Brexit, so I'm unsure on what you base your comment. It's a mistake to imagine the motives were purely financial. But this is an inappropriate forum for such debate.

I'm don't think it matters anymore how bad Trump is/will be, but more how well Biden can turn this around. And this appears highly impossible with more and more fairly well known Dems (and donors) coming out publicly, either still questioning his capabilities or out-right saying he has to go.

I think the Dems are literally shooting themselves in the foot (feet?) as whether he goes or stays, by the time the Dems settle this issue, it will be too late. And, they are looking like a bunch of disorganized amateurs, much like they have accused the Reps of in the past.

I fear Trump will win and, to top it off, the Dems will come in second place in both the House and the Senate.

Have seen a few recent article/YT headings screaming that Presidential immunity, as per the recent SCOTUS ruling, is unconstitutional.

Not arguing either way as I don't have enough Constitution knowledge, however, if the ruling does present a constitutional conflict, what is the actual remedy? If SCOTUS is the top legal dog and the House/Senate are incapable of doing much let alone revise a Constitution, how does a SCOTUS (Constitution) wrong get righted? Or is that it, and the country just has to live with the result?
