So you're delighted that someone died from Covid.

Seems some Floridians are getting a clue.
Quote
Nearly half of all Florida voters now disapprove of Republican Governor Ron DeSantis' job performance. His disapproval rating has risen over the last two months as Florida's COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths have reached their highest levels since the pandemic began.

Quote
The percentage of Independent voters who disapprove of DeSantis' job performance rose 14 percentage points since the start of July. At the start of July, only 38 percent disapproved of his job performance. By the end of August, 51 percent disapproved.
Meanwhile, his base is dropping like flies. 🪰

Literally as well as figuratively, unfortunately: Florida is providing a demonstration to the rest of the United States how efficiently political stupidity can churn out COVID-19 cases.  This indeed is an intriguing phenomenon: elected officials impeding public health policies that could keep their supporters alive.  I believe this is known as Trump l'oeil.  Or maybe "Darwin's revenge."

(And, as Mother used to say, "if you want to avoid a terrible headache, never mix hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.")

I'm not normally a fan of puns but that was very clever.

I thought that this was an interesting threat for a politician in a democracy to make, https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/09/01/mccarthys-threat-to-telecoms-warrants-immediate-ethics-committee-inquiry-508625.

What's disgusting is when someone gloats over a person dying from Covid just because he was opposed to taking the shot.

Or even earlier when he accused others of calling him a liar when it never happened:

Sorry, but I think that "gloating" is too strong a term to describe the original statement. My inference was that it was more along the lines of "He got what was coming to him."  It's not a particularly charitable thing to say, maybe, but not out of line in the context of these discussions. For example, I have heard the similar thought expressed elsewhere (not here) in reference to the 4 dead at Kent State, that they got what was coming to them for daring to protest even though "protest" is regarded as wholly patriotic in other contexts. I have also heard similar thoughts expressed on these pages in reference to someone who was killed by police, because "what do you expect when you confront police?"

When someone refuses to take sensible and reasonable preventative steps to fight against an infectious disease, it's not easy to feel sympathy for them when they suffer the consequences. Another way of looking at it might be that they are heroes in the defense of freedom, like it says on the license plate. Do you think anyone will put up statues in their name?

Worse, when someone refuses to take sensible and reasonable preventative steps to fight against an infectious disease and use their platform to try to get others not to, then they die from their stupid, moronic acts, tough s*#t. I have zero sympathy and find this form of natural selection yet another sign that in the end, science and facts trump (Trump) lies and stupidity.

I bet most people never thought they'd read this news story, https://www.npr.org/2021/09/03/1034140480/lyft-and-uber-will-pay-drivers-legal-fees-if-theyre-sued-under-texas-abortion-la. I wonder how this law will affect that supposed huge migration of Californians to Texas I keep hearing about.

Texas: Land of the freedom to conform.  :)

But, just so you don't think that the US has a monopoly on dumb asses, Canadian anti-vaxxers turn militant,  https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/anti-vaccine-protests-health-workers-toronto-1.6164215.  As I've stated before on these pages, I'd love to see a Venn diagram showing how much of an intersection there is between the universe of anti-vaxxers and the universe of people who buy illegal drugs. Be fun listening to someone explain why they think that dope produced by organized crime is safer than medical vaccines. But then, people can convince themselves of anything.

Says the guy who boasted...

I don't think you want me to get on the topic of politics since you couldn't handle that.

and who can forget the classic...

You couldn't handle it; don't be a masochist!

and whose empty bravado has been shown in the limp insults disguised as posts ever since.
