Yes, I was sad to have to return that lens! For my purposes one that won't focus at infinity isn't very useful. The closer focus images looked good.

Aloha,

looking a Paul's images from Arkansas; I'm reminded of how incredible the improvement to the dynamic range of digital cameras has gotten over the years.
I don't know how much the shadows are opened up in post, not that its an issue, it would be interesting to know if the shadows were deeper, then opened in post.
I started shooting digital with a canon ids mark 2, even then you could open the images up a good bit in post but, you could tell.

Anyway Arkansas; who knew! nice location, nice shots!

Hi, Thanks for the kind words. Arkansas has some nice spots for sure. The shadows are opened up a huge amount. So far all the IQ100 images I have posted have been from a single shot, no bracketing for exposure. I actually do bracket when I shoot, but the range on the IQ100 is very impressive. At base ISO of 50 to around 200 pushing 2.5 stop to even 3 is very possible. What is also impressive is just how well the highlights will hold up, as I tend to still expose for the shadows and push the highlights. Very good recovery there also.

One more from late August of this year. 3 part horizontal pan, 35LS XF IQ100 at 200 ISO. A bit of problematic shot due to sky blend, (pure blue always tend to be that way) and I would have preferred a few clouds. Per a good suggestion from Wayne Fox, I will try a LCC following such a series in the future to see if I can keep the edges a bit more open. Raw developed in C1, Pano in LR.

Walking "Sentiero degli dei" on the Amalfi coast. Shot using Pentax 645N and 33-55mm zoom at 33mm, both f9.5 and 1/90. Scanned at 4000 dpi on a Microtek 120TF. I had to desaturate a bit, actually, as Ektar 100 + polarizer gives very saturated colors. From previous experience Ektar is almost useless with skintones, but it works with landscape, as long as there are no people close up!

Wow, great catch! Looks like my neck of the woods, Kebler Pass.

Do you ever have trouble stitching rainbow shots? I find sometimes they do not line up correctly due to some kind of optical phenomenon that can make stitching difficult.

Hi Matt

Thanks for the kind feedback. No issues with the stitch. I was nervous after I shot the images if I had got it. I only got the four images. By the time I was done the rainbow was losing its glow. Rainbows and big scenics are not my typical subject matter. I mostly shoot intimate tree panoramics. Although, hard to ignore it when it is a scene like this one. I knew where to be when the rainbow started and rushed to get to this spot, just in time.

Paul, I have to say I find your phrase "favorite stand of sweetgums" hilarious. Because it is a fast-growing tree, it gets planted as a suburban landscaping tree - and then the property owners are @$&&%$#$&(*@!^$%$ at the fruit (spiky balls which bounce all over and catch on stuff when you try to rake them off the lawn). To my mind, the only good sweetgum is a wild sweetgum, and those are lovely trees. Here's the wiki for those who don't know this tree.
