Yes, good eye Stephen!

Right beside the carved out Tree spirit are these trees who are happy not to be carved out.

"Smoke and mirrors"

Wow!

Thanks, Graham.

That's a reason I like the 180mm: I was out in the street that's visible in the circular mirror. Bothered nobody...

That, Bruce, explains why I managed only four out of five years of an engineering apprenticeship!

Ten years ago I spent a whole year studying watchmaking until I stopped short.

My own knowledge of watch-making is limited to the aphorism, "A broken clock is correct twive every day."   ;)

That's a good place to stop, though learning about the various watch manufacturers can make camera companies seem almost sensible.

Yep. I love the 70-200 on APC and I'm quite often at the 200 end. The thought of carrying a 300/2.8 with a FF really doesn't appeal.

I think I did Smoke and Mirrors on the D200 - that makes it about 270mm equiv. I would love a real 2.8/300 Nikkor, but not in my current circumstances. I'm sometimes tempted to take the 500 reflex for a walk in town, but that definitely needs a support - even if only the two-legs-extended approach I sometimes use with my light tripod - the Slik. Very rigid little baby, and travelled a lot with me after BA broke my very pretty Rowi tripod either at Heathrow courtesy the handling staff or, possibly, in their hold en route to Nassau. Anyway, it was trying to use the 500mm there, with just two working legs available, that was the introduction for me to the technique. Slower than a unipod, but confines accidental movement to a single vetical plane instead of all directions.

That long lens weight issue is something that occassionally makes me think of going to a smaller format, but then small formats have their own problems too, one being too much apparent DOF.

Guess I'll just stay where I am unless Dame Fortune smiles upon this prodigal once again.

Lots of really good shot here!

As I have been mostly looking and enjoying rather than contributing, here are two that perhaps push abstraction.
