Very nice, brantley. The orange-yellow speckles are complimentary to the blue and really tie things together nicely. Sometimes when I see such subtle arrangement and distribution of colours I want to increase the contrast to bring out the contrasting colours even more. It may be difficult because you have soft, almost flat light. Just a thought, anyway.

I see Pegelli is trying to become Scots, what with all that plaid. Nice work gentlemen.

Absolutely, a great point.

This image in particular is a confounding example, because it has two things going on:  first, over time I have learned to moderate away from just cranking the contrast on everything.  I find I enjoy a lot of softer palettes in narrower gamuts just as much.  (And one of the nice side benefits of that approach is that, since I am always shooting for printed output, they tend to stay in gamut!)

The other thing going on with this one is that there is a ton of "microcontrast" that is getting lost in this low-resolution version.  I really should have a dedicate pipeline for sharpening at each resolution, but even then I would not be able to make this particular image look the same.  I'm afraid it really has to be seen at at 8MP or greater for the local contrast to pop out correctly.  I didn't realize that when I posted it here.  :(

Yes, nice work, folks.

I rather like the pastel effect of Bbrantley's image. I t looks to me as if it wants to be printed as a large mural.

Actually, I agree with your comments on contrast, and moreover, with Eric's point as well. Nothing wrong with soft pastel images if it suits the subject. And your image does. But on line such images can appear to look soft due to poor focus or camera shake. I find I always have to walk a fine line with pastel-like images. Want the soft look, but not the out of focus look. Fine image, all the same.

From the museum of civilization in Ottawa. The place is a sea of opportunity for Architecture and abstracts.

Very civilized, John.  Also, gently pastel (except for the lower left, but that's to obscure the watermark slightly).  ;)

Nice,

Sometimes the colour shifts when I do in-camera motion work. If I like, I leave it. Impossible greens!

Part abstract, part architecture, with busy ornate patterns. A legacy from the past. Lots of noise due to high ISO, but hopefully not that noticeable.
