Here are a couple of the pelicans as well.

No good diving shots yet, got to work that out a bit more.

Yes, these are good shots.
Small lithe birds like these warblers are incredibly difficult to photograph well.
Takes a lot of planning - if it wasn't for the fact that they have favourite perches photographing them would be a true lottery - they rarely stay still for more than a few seconds at a time.

Most of these photos were made last fall at a natural birdbath the birds were attracted to.  I was inside a portable blind.

One, Big, Bad-Ass Gator...a gentle reminder whilst traisping in environs not our own, we are merely guests in theirs.

Or are we? ;D

Some species are even more savage, and they roam the wilderness in herds ; nonetheless, the bravest and wisest of the animals* does not fear them.

Sorry, no mountains, thus no bighorn or littlehorn or any horned sheep clinging precipitously to sheer cliffs, but we do have a few nice flying birds and some just hanging about.

Great white Egret

Common Blackbird

Great white Egret

The "golden slippers" make this a Snowy Egret.

My gosh! right there.
Through a closed or open window?
Great illustration of a leetle one

Living room slider & drapes cracked open just enough for my tele.  First couple of frames he wasn't looking my way, but in this one he was looking for the source of the clicking sound.  One of those lucky happenings.  As you know coyotes will very rarely "look you in the eye."

I was told if the egret had black legs it was a "Great" egret and yellow legs, a "Cattle or Common" egret...but Snowy Egret works for me and I like it better as a name. To me, they are just as regal as the great blues.

It gets complicated in south Florida.  Not only are there Great Egrets, Cattle Egrets and Snowy Egrets, the immature Little Blue Heron is white and the Reddish Egret and Great Blue Heron both have a white color morph - and I've seen Cattle Egrets with dark and yellow-ish legs:

Cattle Egret, Yolo County California:

Cattle Egret, Kaneohe Hawaii:

immature Little Blue Herons are the size of a Snowy Egret or Cattle Egret but have a bi-colored bill:

while the Snowy Egret has a dark bill and dark legs with yellow feet (sometimes obscured by mud):

The Great Egret is larger than the Snowy & Cattle Egrets & Little Blue Heron, has a yellow bill and dark legs:

no photos, but the white color morph of the Great Blue Heron has lighter-colored legs than the Great Egret and is somewhat bigger.  The white color morph of the Reddish Egret has a bi-colored bill like the immature Little Blue Heron but more reddish, and a shaggier appearance.

Yup, this is the adult.  Note the bill color and compare with the immature Little Blue Heron above.
