Oh yes, I remember now!  That's why I never do portraits!

I am often asked regarding my landscape canvases, "Did you take that with a camera?"

While shooting on the street with a 500 mm :  "How far can you see with that lens?"

"Wow, you are amazingly talented, I know your expensive camera has nothing to do with it".

In a dream a few weeks back.  ;D

Almost anytime I walk around my beautiful home town taking photographs:

"where are you visiting from?"

But one time, as above but using a cheap tripod:

"what magazine do you work for?"

So now you know how to look like a pro for about $50.

What people would like to say to photographers
« Reply #11 on: February 08, 2012, 08:24:31 pm »

If you watch this video, and the behavior of one of the photographers - it has a bunch of birders in the northwest quite upset

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0_gzY2k7P0

From my perspective, there are more important things to worry about in the environmental/birding field than the behavior of this photographer...anyway it is a short film (2.5 minutes). I think this photographer went too close to the Snowy owl and missed the shot anyway...despite the camo outfit, big lens etc. It is funny in some ways - how not to be a bird photographer!

I frequently get "You must have a really good camera."  My reply to that is:  "What a delicious dinner...you must have really good pots."

On the art & craft show circuit where I sell, we (photographers) often share odd things people say to us. Here are a couple of my favorite -

1. Another show artist visited my booth. After looking at my prints, she made the statement - "you must have a really good camera." Later in the show, I visited her booth, looked at her paintings, and said - "you must have REALLY good brushes!"

2. Inquiry from show patron looking at my prints - "did you go to all these places?"

- "Did you took the picture? Because the flash didn't fired"
- "Let me see the picture!"

How many Megapixels? Oh, that's not much. My P&S have more than yours, and is a lot smaller.

"How much zoom? What do you mean by 'none'?!"

I usually shoot with primes, but I've only gotten that question once and I was using the Nikon 14-24mm. I replied truthfully, "Oh, it's nothing fancy -- not even two times."

Related things that people say (when I let them take a shot): "How do I zoom?"
