LL Forum Site Design?
« on: July 12, 2008, 08:50:26 am »

Hi all.

This may sound like a complaint... and to a degree, it is. I lodge it carefully, as I am new here, and very happy to have found this community.

But what is up with the Forum's default color scheme and logo? We're photographers, many here extremely skilled, and we spend so much of our time thinking in terms of aesthetics... Yet there isn't even a nice Luminous Landscape log in place of the default logo?

I don't know how to customize forum skins or any of that, so I'm not offering a solution. I just thought I'd make some waves. I guess I can ask around about creating forum skins and all that...

Oh well, have a good weekend.

I've always been more interested in the content than the colours...  YMMV!

LOL, ok. But in fairness, all great work benefits from a great frame.

I just thought I'd make some waves.

So, when you go over to a friends house, do you complain about his decorating scheme or when he gives you a ride in his car, do you complain about the suspension?

You might want to spend a bit of time getting acquainted before us our their breath stinks, ya know?  If it's waves ya want bud...there's plenty of people happy to make them for ya.

Get over yourself. I meant it tongue-in-cheek, I don't actually care too much about what the logo looks like.

I may be new here, but this isn't the first forum I'm a member of. Obviously, all forums seems to have a few members that need smileys in order to parse the difference between light-hearted comments and true complaining.

I'm staying, I'll be seeing you around here.

The LL forum is like an old sneaker, not the latest fashion, a little tattered around the edges, and occasionally stinky, but it certainly is comfortable and useful.

The asset here is not what it looks like but the people and their accumulated knowledge.

If it ain't broke, don't mess with it.

Jeff,

Let's ramp up the laugh meter, or maybe we can all change our medication.

In fact speaking of medication . . . I love to see Michael go all out.

This to me is a great business model and of course stunning web site design

[a href=\"http://www.nowbekanye.com/]http://www.nowbekanye.com/

We could easily produce www.nowbemikey.com

Think about  it two pills a house on the lake, a gallery and world wide fame.

Come on Michael, share the love man.

Canada is the king of the export to America presiciption drug, so I'm sure outsourcing this will be easy, though Michael might have to give up a big part of dna, (personally I'd suggest  a little toe, cause nobody really needs a little toe.)

Yes, I tried the site, but it just didn´t open to anything beyond an ugly home page. Or just took too long for my three minute mind.

I dunnno.

I guess I'm saying we can all lighten up.  The forum is just a forum, the look is canned, the words we write are semi-original . . . semi.

I love the Kahne West thing because it's fun.

James

I have just had another look at Hans Feurer´s agent´s site and there are some new (to me) shots added to his portfolio that you might like. Sadly, some lovely ones have gone...

I am not complaining, but I have wondered why there is an "Invision" logo instead of "Luminous Landscape".

Thanks for the humour James.

Here's the crux of the matter. Everything takes time and money. Sure, the Forum software could be spifffed up, but it would cost. And what would be gained in the end?

I've redesigned the main site itself three times over the past 10 years, and it hasn't been cheap. I'm not a graphics or web person, so again, it would take money to do another major facelift.

I feel that the site's overall design and layout works. No, it's not hip and trendy, but I actually like old comfortable shoes.  I subscribe to the philosophy – if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Here's an easy upgrade that'll make a nice difference.  Replace this file on your server and put your nice logo up top instead of the bland default forum maker logo:

Sure they do. But just as an example, [a href=\"http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php]this forum isn't using software written by "Groundspeak". Instead, it is the name of the company that owns and runs the forum.

The forum software used here works well, and is set up well. When I first landed here it was not through the main site and I really did think I was on the "Invision" site. (The name is not an unreasonable one for a photography site.)

The logo that kaelaria provided just needs to be uploaded here: http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/style_images/1/logo4.gif

Should be a 10-second free upgrade.

I would do this, it's a good and effective idea and  like DClement said it could be done in 1 minute....
