Check out the Golden ratio, The Golden Triangle, the Golden
Square, The Involute. etc..., the next time you're out photographing.

All of which are beautifully manifested in nature. Wonderful
designs, composition, and stuctures. etc ...

Speaking of bird shots, until they flushed about a week ago, I've been monitoring a family of great horned owls. One of my favorites is the three chicks.

Over the past weeks, I've browsed through a lot of the various images here. There's a huge amount of pictures that I'd like to own, but my walls don't really have room for it. Some of you have even gotten away with "gaper shots", which I think is pretty impressive.

Thanks, I think I've learned a lot from just looking at most of these pictures.

Here are three out of 24 images I took tonight between 11 PM and midnight; I'm pleased with these to the extent that I'd call them definite keepers (that's a personal best; there are rarely so few). Some of the images do look pretty good in B&W, too, but I feel that the mood here is captured best with the colors intact.

Since I'm pleased, I'm sure there are plenty of people who disagree, or who could point out to weaknesses in framing or post processing. Feel free to do so! (Any critique or suggestions will be read and taken to heart.)

Nice Puerto Rico sea, sand. I love up is down abstracts!

I think I have enjoyed this winter more than I have in years, thanks to my trusty, if less than illustrious, Digital Rebel and the encouragement I find on this site. I forget which Video Journal has the article on shooting in the winter, but I was most encouraged by the fact that the camera would stand the weather well enough. I have yet to feel the urge to get up at dawn ... but I'm sure it will come.

Here are a few more of my shots taken a couple of weeks ago at Inglis Falls in Owen Sound Ontario.

If anyone is looking for a good place to shoot in Southern Ontario, I might recommend the Bruce Peninsula highly. If you are in the area, you might like to drop by Jensen Music and say hi to Kate.

Road less traveled is my fav...

Nevada Hues is my other favorite, even though I cant figure out what to do with it...I've tried playing with it and cant put a
definite finish on it

I invite others to manipulate the original in any way that they like... Please explain what you did to it...thanks

I have heard that such studies are a waste of your time and money and that all you need to do in "just blow."

Bob, you need to be able to post your pictures on someone's server space. I have a rotten little account with a slow miserable little server on which I have placed my Egyptology page and I put a few miscellaneous files up in another directory. These things can be had reasonably cheaply.They give me a throw away email address as well, which is handy for registering at various web sites and receiving the resultant spam. I go to their web mail server and check it out from time to time and delete it. Lots of bad stuff after using the address for the last 8 years. It's basically a throw away account, but comes in handy.

Northwest, the owl shot is fabulous! wow. Look at those expressions. Makes one humble. Saw a bluebird in my back yard yesterday but missed the shot!

Bernard, your Fujisan is stunning - I could only see the thumbnail but it was lovely!

the reason why i posted those images is to get some feedback, so any comment is welcome!
and indeed, the fact that jonathan said why he didnt like the second one is more educating than saying that youll like it.
i ofcourse like it when someone says that but if youll know the reason, then youll learn a lot more!

Hi Kate,

Last summer my family and I spent a week in Stratford at the home of some dear friends. The images of the area looked a bit warmer than the ones on your site! You're brave!

Beautiful country up there. Our friends took us to a beach on Lake Huron. I think it was at Port Frank. It was the first time I had ever seen one of the Great Lakes. I couldn't get over the expanse, the surf, and the lack of salt. We're about an hour from the Atlantic here so it was strange swimming in what looked like ocean water without the taste.
