Cannot load canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 software windows 11-home
« on: February 03, 2026, 04:33:03 pm »

I purchased a imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 to replace my epson 3880. I cannot get the canon software to load on my windows 11 home computer. Canon support tried to help but none of their suggestions worked.
The printer is connected via wif-fi and that connection works fine. Canon driver, print layout and other software won't loadl Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

That is very weird. Do you mean that the driver and Canon software won’t install to your computer?
At the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure that you downloaded the right version of the installation package for your OS? Do you perhaps have some safety feature turned on that requires additional permissions to be granted before you can install third-party software?

Yes it's strange. Printer status is shown an idle which means a driver problem. Canon support provided the URL to download the necessary software. When I run the exe the program runs and then says unable to install. The Canon website provides a setup package labeled Windows 11. I don't have any software installed that should prevent installing new programs. Pretty plain setup MCFEE virus installed. I've disabled fire wall to see if that was a problem. No change. So tuned i t back on.
Tried all Canon suggestions remove printer and reinstall. Turn off and unplug everything, etc.
Thanks for asking.

I am sorry for not being able to help here: what you are experiencing is very odd, even though I am Mac based so what do I know about Windows 11. I hope someone else will weigh in with a suggestion that resolves your issue. I can imagine how frustrating this may be.

Is the account/profile you are trying to install from a regular user account or an administrator account  ?
Many programs require to be installed from an admin rights account.
If you are using a regular user account, try right clicking on the installer program and select "run as administrator".

Any chance you have one of those Windows ARM laptops? I wouldn't be surprised if there might be some compatibility gotchas.

Sounds like either a package library is not installed that the software needs ( *.net  or *.c library for example) or the software is not able to communicate with the printer. Many consumer printers had to be initially installed with a USB connection. Then the driver / software would work fine over wifi or LAN connection. Perhaps the package needs UDP multicast or another protocol enabled in the wifi router to allow it to communicate with the printer ?  i am assuming you have a flat network - all devices are on the same subnet  - example 192.168.1.xxx where xxx is a unique number for each device. If you are using different subnets, that would deny communication between the PC and the printer unless specific routing instructions were set up.

What are the other options for communication between the PC and the printer ?

Verify with CANON what software dependencies exist, versions , etc. Check for them on the PC.

Might try this  - remove all installed CANON software for the printer - drivers, add on , GUI, etc.  Reboot.
Then install in the specific order required by CANON.

Can you run the ping command on the PC using the printer's IP address and get a response ?
Example from a CMD window  :
C:\ping 192.168.1.155 ( or whatever IP address is on the printer)

Thanks for all the advise. The printer does communicate with the computer via ping.  I've always figured that it a wonder that computers work at all with so many companies providing hardware and software. Not to mentions user doing things that were never expected.
I had hoped someone else seen a similar problem and solved it.

Does the PC access the internet through wifi or with LAN cable or both ?
Does it have both wifi and lan active ?
Try disabling one of the connection interfaces if the PC has both. Try the install then.

The notes on the printer spec page indicate "internet required" to install the software packages mentioned.  Does that mean one has to have a Canon user account active  or something like that ?

I can answer this bit from back when I had a Pro 1100, although on a Mac machine: no, it simply means that the printer and the computer it is going to be used with must be able to connect to the internet upon install so the user can download the driver and other software, Canon Media Configuration can check that the printer’s media list is up to date and the printer can verify that it has the latest FW release. I only created a Canon account at the time of registration, after completing the initial setup.

One other thought. Since that printer has a USB port, try installing a USB cable from the PC to the printer after removing the software and drivers.
BTW, Win 11 Pro or Home ?

Good suggestion. I'll try it when I can find a usb cord long enough to reach the printer. I've got Windows 11 Home.
Thanks

In your initial post, you said that the driver, print layout and driver software won’t load on your system but in your very next post, you stated that the printer is idle, indicating that this is a driver problem. So, I’m confused, if you were unable to install (is that what you mean by ‘load’, actually installing the driver, etc? Or you’ve installed them but now cannot load the program when you click their icon?) the drivers, how can you say that the problem is a driver issue? Presumably, from what you’ve said, you don’t actually have the driver installed. Moreover, how are you getting any info about the state of the printer, whether idle or something else? To do so, you’d need to have the driver installed, otherwise how are the printer and pc communicating, with no driver installed?

If you can please clarify exactly what you mean and how you’ve gone about determining that the driver is at fault, when, to my understanding, you don’t have the driver installed? Also, where are you seeing the printer reporting to be idle, in what software or what part of windows?

Just trying to help you get this sorted but first, it’s important to know the exact situation you’re in and whether the problem is installing the software in the first place or you’ve installed it but can’t get it to load/start when you click the icon?

Printer status shows as idle web search say this is a driver problem. Search of all windows locations where driver is stored shows that there is no driver available in other words, there is no driver installed. When I download and run the files suggest by Canon support, the exe runs. Canon support says that after the exe runs, the box should open with information about what is being installed and asking where they should be installed. Instead the screen displays the error message installation failed. I've tried installing the printer from scratch using the Canon master installation download  This download runs fine. Says that driver was installed, but search for driver comes up empty. Canon support says that something is preventing their software from being installed. I'm sure I don't have a virus.
I appreciate you help and sorry if I've confused the situation. I can live without print layout and other Canon utilities. They seem nice to have and are tied to the driver (according to Canon).
I'm sure there must be a missing windows system file or something, but all windows trouble shooting programs say everything is OK.

Just to close this out. With the help of Canon support I was able to get the basic Canon driver loaded and working. Other Canon software won't load. Since I use Qimage and Photoshop for printing I've given up on print layout.
Thanks to those who offered help and suggestion.
